Well said. To add on a bit, once a story is made public, authorial intent takes a back seat to audience interpretation. They may not have intended Adam to stand in for Malcolm X specifically, but it's an interpretation that fits too perfectly to dismiss out of hand. Just because it's inconvenient to acknowledge doesn't make it wrong.
