“birds of a feather, we should stick together..” ❤️💙
for you, always (requested!) wally west x fem!reader
mentions: angst, wally and reader in a relationship, wally keeping his secret identity away from her, reader realizing that something is up and confronts him about it, wally might be ooc im so sorry, uhh happy ending??? makeout, and ofc tension my fav (first time writing wally, guys go easy on me i still dont understand his character so i tried my best wally is also the flash in this one buuut yeah enjoy)
---------------------------------------------------------
wally was keeping something from you. and you know it
you love wally, he’s single handedly the best thing that’s ever happened in your life, but you were getting sick and tired. not of him but more of his sudden disappearances— missed calls, half finished sentances, nights where wally held you like he didn’t want to let go and mornings where he was gone before you woke up
you tried not to read much into it, you really did. but there’s only so many times where someone can say “its nothing” before it starts to mean everything
so when the apartment door opened and revealed to be wally, holding a random grocery bag (despite the fridge being stocked up) after being gone for hours and saying that the line at the store ‘was really long’ with his usual grin, you had had enough of it. or in other words— you didn’t believe him
“you’re lying” the words came from you quieter than expected. wally blinked at you from across the room, his grin slowly fading and the grocery bag still in his hand. “what?”
“you’re lying” you repeated, but stronger this time as you got up from your couch
“i just said i was at—“ “i dont care where you said you were, i care that its not true.” silence fell as fast and heavy as it could, and wally felt the sudden change in your demeanor. he set the bag down slowly onto the counter before looking up at you. “okay… where is this coming from?” he asked, almost cautiously
a hollow laugh left your lips, almost at disbelief from what he just said. “that’s your answer?” and wally tried to clarify himself, slowly walking closer to you but keeping his distance. “i’m trying to understand-“ but you didn’t budge, you just stood there. “no, you’re trying to stall” you cut in, feeling your chest tighten from the realization of your own words. “you keep changing the subject instead of just telling me what’s going on”
you saw how hurt flicked in wally’s expression. “i would never-“ “but you are” you snapped, finally not having it. “right now.” and what somehow made it was when he stopped talking. you crossed your arms, more to hold yourself than anything else. “i dont—“ you had to take a breath of air to compose yourself, your voice now quieter. “I don’t feel like i know you anymore.” “that’s not true.” he immediately said, eyebrows slightly furrowed. but you weren’t impressed. “then prove it.” wally opened his mouth, closed it, and looked away— the answer to your question. and that made your throat burn and murmur a “wow” under your breath, afraid that if you spoke louder, your voice would crack
“i just—“ wally sighed. “there are things i can’t-“ but you caught him off once again, not wanting to hear any more excuses. “can’t what? say? or won’t say?” and you saw the frustration starting to creep in wally.
“its not about you, there are reasons—“ “there are always reasons. and i just... dont understand why you won't let me in” “that’s not fair.” “stop saying that!” your voice finally cracked, now louder and getting impatient. “everytime i call you out, you say that like it fixes anything. guess what? it doesn't” wally ran a hand through his hair, now starting to pace fast and almost restless— like he had too much energy running in his bloodstream. “i’m trying to keep things from getting worse” he muttered.
“for who?” you asked and of course, he didn’t answer— silence as your answer, but you kept on pressing. “for me?” you stepped closer. “because from where i’m standing, it already is worse.”
he stopped pacing and turned to look at you— really look at you. and for a second, something raw slipped through the cracks, something that no joke or smile could hide. “i could lose you” he said quietly, sounding raw from the truth. your anger faltered—but only for a second
“you already are”
and that one landed. hard— you knew by the way his shoulders dropped after your words left your lips, in the way his hands clenched like he didn’t know what to do with him and almost as if he was contemplating telling you what you really wanted to know— the truth to his sudden disappearences
“i don’t know how to do this.” he admitted in a murmur and your voice softened despite yourself. “do what? be honest?” “being honest without putting you in danger” his response hung between you two, the word danger repeating in his head. danger? what danger? wally literally worked as a mechanic, for fuck’s sake— unless something was being kept from you, unless wally was hiding something from you
“wally” you said slowly, feeling your stomach twist. “what are you talking about?” and the moment you saw the hesitation in his face, you immediately shook your head and stepped back
“no— no, dont do that, don't bullshit me and shut down again” “i’m not-“ “you are!” you raised your voice, the frustration coming back. “its— its like you keep opening the door enough for me to see there’s something behind it, but never enough to actually understand!”
a beat of silence
“do you know how that feels?” your voice dropped but smaller. but of course, wally didn’t answer— unsure on what to say— and you weren’t shocked. “it feels…” you murmured with a gulp, your hand turning into a fist. “it feels like im stupid for staying” and your words broke him
“don’t say that.” he immediately said, stepping forward. “you’re not stupid. you're the only good thing in my life that isn’t—“ wally’s eyes widened, cutting himself before it’s too late. but it was
“…isn’t what?” you caught on to his slip quickly and once you saw his jaw tighten in silence, that’s when everything in you just gave out. you let out a shaky laugh, your head shaking. “you know what? forget it.” you go to grab your keys off the table wally immediately tries to stop you, but you cut him off once again, turning to him. “i’m done begging for scraps, wally” you said. “if you can’t let me in, then i dont belong here.” you didn’t want to do this, you didn’t want to do it like this. you love wally— and even though you know that he loves you too, getting pushed away in the dark like an oblivious, naive person isn’t what you signed up for in a relationship. you knew your worth, and you have had enough
once you moved towards the door, wally began to panic— his head running other ways and solutions to try to solve this
but instead, he reacted. and by reacting, he blocked your way by standing in front of the door — the confusing part? you didn’t see him move. not a blur or even a sound. no fucking way did wally already block your way when he was just behind you
your breath hitched, eyes slightly widened. “…how did you—“ “i messed up” wally interrupted you, but very quietly. you felt your heart starting to race, but not from anger. instead, it was from something uncertain. “yeah” you said slowly, still trying to process how the hell he appeared in front of you so fast. “you did” he exhaled, bracing himself and now realizing that there was no point in hiding it anymore. “there’s a reason why i disappear” wally said. “a real one, not the excuses.” you didn’t —or rather, couldn’t— respond as he continued. “i wasn’t at work. or asleep” a beat. “or anywhere normal.” a thick heavy silence came but it only lasted for a second. “i was saving people.”
“…what?” “im the flash” the heavy silence came back, but longer. you thought he was trying to joke around, trying to ease up the tension and make you forget about this. but the hesitation that was in his voice when he announced it and the clear signs in his face showed that it wasn’t one
your eyes slowly widened. “you’re serious” you whispered, almost in disbelief, and wally nodded, confirming. “yeah”
and his confirmation cleared everything, making you look down with your eyes still widened, as if processing the information. and soon, the pieces were connecting— every weird moment, every inconsistency suddenly slotting into place in a way that somehow, somehow made sense. and soon, you knew. your boyfriend— the same man who made you laugh till your stomach hurt, who made love to you in a way that made your body buzz, who always made you feel like life was worth living— was the flash “that’s why you’re always gone” “yes” “that’s why you won’t tell me things” “yes” you looked up to meet him, eyes now slightly watering in realization. “because you think i’ll get hurt.” your chest tightened again— not with frustration or anger, but with guilt. that he was doing this for your safety “i know you could” wally said, his eyes gently softening. “and i couldn’t live with that.” god, this isn’t how he wanted you to find out— not like this, and definitely not now, not when he was already so busy with league mission and mirror master, not when you were this close to breaking apart in front of him you let out a long breath, turning away for a second. “so instead” you spoke. “you just let me think you didn’t care.” and wally’s voice broke. “i never wanted that.” if he spoke any higher or louder, the lump in his throat would have been evident
“but that’s what it felt like” “i know. and i hate that i did that to you.” you looked back at him with your watery eyes and saw no deflection, no jokes, no running— just wally. “i needed the truth.” you said quietly, making wally nod in agreement. “i know.” his voice was lowered in the same tone as yours
“i deserved it” “i know” “…and you still didn’t tell me” “i was scared”
a confession so raw, so honest from wally west. you quickly wiped your tears before it could fall, trying to look at him sternly. “if im in your life--” you declared. “im in it, not whatever this was” he nodded quickly. “no more ‘whatever this was’ “ wally agreed. “i promise.”
“… no more lies?” “none” he said firmly
“.. no more disappearing without telling me why?” “i’ll tell you everything i can. and if i cant, i’ll at least tell you that instead of making something up”
it wasn’t perfect, but it was real— and right now, real mattered more and instead, your trembling hands cupped his face and pulled him in for a kiss, the tears finally leaving your eyes. you felt wally instantly leaning in, like he needed this just as much— if not more— his hands gently wiping your tears away with his thumb before going down to your waist, as murmurs of “im so sorry” and “i love you” kept leaving his lips.
the kiss was messy— not soft nor slow, nothing like the ones you usually shared. it was a dance that spoke louder than words, the kind of kiss that came with weeks of built up frustratioin, unanswered questions and late nights spent staring at your phone, with the quiet fear that maybe you were loving someone who didn’t fully let you love him back— and yet, it was still him
both of you slowly broke the kiss, meeting each other’s eyes with small pants leaving your lips. then, your hands trailed from his face to curl into the fabric of his shirt, grounding both of you “i’m still upset” “you should be” “and i’m not just going to magically be okay with all of this” “i wouldn’t expect you to be” “… but i’m not leaving” and relief immediately went on wally's face, almost overwhelming. “yeah?” he asked softly, making you nod, even as your eyes stung again. “but if we’re really doing this, you don’t shut me out ever again. you talk to me” “i will” he said without hesitation. “even when it’s hard, especially when it’s hard.” after a beat, you spoke but quieter. “…and you come back” and that made something in him crack from how those words came out from your lips. “i always come back” wally said, his hand coming up to cup your cheek. “to you, always”
your lips slightly trembled before you leaned into his touch. “good” you whispered. “because i dont think i could handle wondering if you won’t.” a confession of your own wally didn’t respond with words but this time— pulling you into another kiss that was more slower and softer, yet still filled with everything neither of you could quite say. the same hand that cupped your cheek felt the drops of your tears again, his thumb carefully brushing you away— like he was learning you all over again.
and this time, when you kissed him back, it didn’t feel like he was slipping through your fingers or that you were the one making the effort in the relationship.
because for the first time in a while, he stayed.

something i dont think enough speedster media mentions is that the things around them take the same amount of time to do stuff, so you couldnt like super speed rapidly interact with most any kind of average modern machine. like on a phone you cant do that, on touch screens because it takes nanoseconds just to register your touch, and on button phones bc the buttons have to register being pressed down and then display the number on the screen and theyre even slower, so really you cant text much faster than the fastest an average human could text, which i think would kill me. the same principle applies to food which i think would be even more frustrating somehow. imagine being faster than anything on earth and STILL having to wait a minute for instant noodles, even if you can prepare and cool them in tiny fractions of a second. not being able to text at super speed would kill me but waiting for food to cook would make ME kill MYSELF
