hey guys. so finally tomorrow ig i'll become a third officer by the blessing of god. i hope everything goes right. i'm too anxious and scared at the same time. it's 19:24 and rain's falling like it's gonna flood. i've too much work for tomorrow. i need some kinda help nd ik if any problem comes up, swayam bhay's gonna help me out. i'm also thinking sahaj bhay can also help me in that shit. but well, we'll see. i hope i don't need anybody's help and i can do it all by myself.

Astronaut

Recién me eché una peliculita canadiense que se llama “Astronaut - The last push” (Eric Hayden, 2020). La encontré en Prime Video (el servicio de streaming de Amazon), aunque también la ví disponible por ahí en YouTube para ver sin subscripción, o sea gratis (solo aguas con los subtítulos, los hace un bot que realmente trabaja muuuy mal).

Es el primer largometraje de este director, y como se adivina por el título, es una obra de ciencia ficción “dura”, sobre un viaje espacial. Al ser un filme independiente la verdad no esperaba una gran producción (aún así, los que me conocen saben que como fan del género, todo ese tipo de historias me las devoro). Pero a pesar de mis pocas expectativas la película es bastante buena. Casi tanto como otras cosas similares que he descubierto, “Love” (2011) del norteamericano William Eubank, filmada prácticamente en su jardín y con un resultado espectacular, o Ghost Story (2017) del director texano David Lowery, y de la que ya he escrito antes por aquí, por ser también una de las películas más originales, bellas y filosóficas que he visto en últimos años.

Y en este caso el resultado es también bastante afortunado. Obvio no les voy a decir de qué va la trama (para no arruinarles una historia de este tipo, de por sí siempre llenas de lugares comúnes). Pero les puedo decir algo: la historia está bien contada, el final es emocionante, tiene buena tensión y giros, el personaje principal -el astronauta- es entrañable y realista (lo que para mí es básico en un buen relato de sci-fi), más humano que los de la mayoría de muchas superproducciones de Hollywood. También es cierto que la película trata de algo que ya hemos escuchado mucho: el clásico viaje espacial como pretexto para explorar la condición humana. Pero sin embargo se logra decir algo, o aporta algo, si no nuevo al menos fresco -e inspirador- al tema.

Además, cualquier película que termine con fragmentos de un poema de T. S. Eliot sin duda merece mi atención. Aún más si el poema elegido es el famoso Cuatro Cuartetos, considerado por muchos la obra maestra de este autor. Una obra famosa porque también invita mucho a la reflexión, a la filosofía, incluso al misticismo de lo que nos hace humanos y lo que nos impulsa a buscar cosas tan inverosímiles como el viajar a otros planetas, o a cualquier otra cosa desconocida, con todos los riesgos (y limitaciones tecnológicas) que esto implica.

En fin, les comparto el fragmento del poema mencionado, tal y como es fraseado en los últimos minutos de la historia. Lo hago porque creo que con este recurso se logra gran parte del mérito que creo que la película tiene (no se preocupen, no espoilea nada leerlo). A ver si con esto logro antojarlos un poco. Si lo consigo y la ven, y logran captar algo de lo que me hizo considerarla valiosa, puedo pensar que escribir, comentar y compartir este posteo ya sirvió para algo...

You know that feeling when you’re running and you’re so tired, but you’re so close to the finish line so you just keep on running, getting more and more exhausted the closer you get to the end?

Yeah, that’s exactly how I feel about this trimester...

Trying my best not to complain and dread the upcoming weeks and finals. Everyday, praying that He will give me strength and help me to see the good in every situation.

Three things I’m grateful for:

1) For this opportunity to pursue my dream of becoming a PT

2) For the stroke pts who have been gracious enough to visit our classes and for the site visits our professors set up for us

MOVIE MINI REVIEW : The Last Push

Europe. Lune de Jupiter. Couverte de glace et donc, peut-être, d'eau liquide. Et de vie. Après le magnifique et tétanisant EUROPA REPORT, voici que débarque THE LAST PUSH, clone fauché mais tout aussi ambitieux. Une espèce vivante a été détectée sur Europe. Une mission interplanétaire de l'espace bidule est mise en route. Deux astronautes décollent pour un voyage de plusieurs années. Mais après seulement quelques jours, le vaisseau rentre en collision avec des micro-météorites. Un seul homme parvient à survivre, Michael. Perdu en pleine voie lactée, il doit coute que coute continuer son périple. Quitte à devenir fou là-haut, tout seul pendant trois longues années avant de pouvoir revenir sur Terre… Eric Hayden prend le pari de l'anti-spectaculaire, du film purement psychologique. C'est hautement estimable mais quand on possède le budget dosettes de café d'une production moyenne hollywoodienne, le projet a toutes les chances de sombrer dans le ridicule. Heureusement non. Mais le manque cruel de dollar$ rend THE LAST PUSH difficile à supporter. Le pauvre astrospatiocosmonaute bidule Michael (Khary Payton, spécialiste du doublage de jeux vidéos, un peu livré à lui-même par moments) fait tout plein de trucs idiots dans sa pièce de 10 cm2. Ok, il devient psychotique mais tout ça manque d'empathie et de force. Mais bon. La modestie du film et son approche ultra-réaliste de la SF sauvent THE LAST PUSH du néant intersidéral.
