I think we can all agree that this was the moment we knew that Eamon was a) loyal to Orlais and b) a big old party pooper. A mabari fighting to determine the fate of the country is the most Fereldan thing ever, and I will hear nothing said against this glorious plan.

We witness Varric's heartache when returning from Adamant. We talk about the sorrow of the lover who will receive the missive. But what of that one companion - graying at the muzzle, no longer so spry, a powerhouse diminished - left waiting somewhere with rheumy eyes and a whimper, knowing that something has happened, that his human, his charge, is somehow gone - distant beyond measure.

The mabari will wait by the door day after day, restless and watching, twitching in his sleep as he hears his name whispered through dreams. Waking with a lingering scent of home in his nostrils, and the echo of a murmured "good boy."
