My heart! It’s starting! From Ellen Pompeo’s Instagram
September gave us this great behind the scenes pic from Ellen. Now October has given us these great Promo pics. I can’t wait to see what November will bring! 😍😭💖
During my week off from work last week I decided to go back and start watching all of the Meredith and Hayes and Hayes scenes in Season 16 of Grey’s Anatomy and let me tell you: Best. Decision. Ever. They're so great! He's awesome! 🥰 Can’t wait to see more of them!
Grey’s Anatomy Casting News
As I’m sure most of you have heard by now there have been two major casting announcements for the show and more information has been revealed about how the show will tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. So let’s get into it! On July 30th it was announced that Richard Flood who plays Meredith’s new love interest Dr. Cormac Hayes and Anthony Hill who plays Maggie’s new love interest Dr. Winston Ndugu will be returning in Season 17 as main cast members. It was also announced that Stefania Spampinato who plays Dr. Carina DeLuca will be joining the cast of Station 19 as a main cast member for Season 4.
I have to say this has got to be the fastest the show has ever upped two characters from reoccurring to main cast members and I am ecstatic! Hayes appeared in 9 episodes last season and he totally stole the show and Winston appeared in only one. Hayes is by far my favourite new character and I love him with Meredith! Richard brings such an amazing depth and complexity to the character that I absolutely love and I’m so excited to see more of him and to see his and Meredith’s romance blossom and to see his friendship with Jo develop as she continues to cheer them on.
I love the comradery that Meredith and Hayes have and they have so much potential. This is the first time since Riggs left the show in Season 14 that I’ve been this invested in a storyline. I’m also not surprised that they upped him to a main character as he’s been a great addition to the show, a hit with fans, and is in charge of a very prominent department which in the past has been filled by other main characters.
I am surprised that they upped Winston to a main character so fast as typically when they introduce a new love interest for someone on the show the actor will appear as a reoccurring guest star and appear in a handful of episodes for at least a season before being upped to main character status or being written off. That being said, I loved the conference episode and what I saw of Winston and Maggie together I liked! Maggie’s been rather unlucky in love and I’m excited to see her develop a relationship with a love interest I actually like.
As for Carina, on the one hand I’m surprised that they’re moving her over to Station 19 permanently as Grey’s Anatomy is a show about the hospital where she works. But on the other hand, I’m not surprised at all as she’s currently in a relationship with firefighter Maya Bishop who is one of Station 19’s main characters. I’m excited that Carina is being given main character status and they’re going to flush out her character more as I like her, but she’s felt very one dimensional for the last couple of seasons which I’ve seen other people comment on as well.
On July 31st it was announced that Kevin McKidd, Kim Raver, and Camilla Luddington would be returning in Season 17 as Doctors Owen Hunt, Teddy Altman, and Jo Karev and that they had all signed multi-year deals that would take them to the series’ end. The show was renewed for two full seasons at the end of Season 15 at which time Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith, signed a two year deal that expires at the end of Season 17. Maggie’s new love interest was just upped to a main cast member which means she’ll be back as well. This means that heading into Season 17 we know that Meredith, Jo, Teddy, Owen, Maggie, Hayes, and Winston will be back and with us for the foreseeable future. I’ve seen some people comment that they would like it if the show added more female characters rather than more male ones and I think that’s a valid criticism. I felt that way when they announced that Link, Tom, and Levi were joining the main cast and I would like more female characters too, but I am also very excited that we’ll get to see more of Hayes and Winston!
For all of my fellow Meredith & Hayes shippers out there. This edit is really well done. Enjoy!
I’m so happy I could cry! 😭😍

More MerWidow Thoughts
Another MerWidow thought that I had. I think it’s really beautiful that Cristina saw two lost souls who were struggling and decided to bring them together. I think that’s kind of beautiful. Cristina herself is someone who hates marriage and dislikes children, but Meredith feels differently and she respects that and the feeling is mutual. She saw how gutted Meredith was by Derek’s death and she also saw how much Cormac was struggling so instead of letting them suffer alone she decided to bring the two of them together in the hope that they’d feel a little less lonely and a little less alone and I think that’s really beautiful. Cristina has always been one of my favourite characters and the fact that she brought Meredith and Cormac together from an ocean away only makes me love her more. May the world bless us all with someone who loves us as much as Cristina Yang and Meredith Grey love each other.
