Cucumber Toner Recipe

Episode 5 of Miss Sherlock (The Missing Bride) features Sherlock handmaking a cucumber toner, which made my inner DIY skincare nerd very excited. I’m not sure what Sherlock adds to her recipe and I’m sure I don’t have the know how to make it as good as hers. However, it’s still very easy to make a simpler version even without Sherlock’s genius.

1. The Simplest: blend up a chunk of cucumber and either use the slurry as is as a cucumber mask (use within 4 days), or strain and bottle for a toner. Refrigerate to extend the shelf life to about 10 days. Actually its even simpler if you have a juicer — just juice the cucumber. Cucumber toners are more or less just juice with stuff added in. The base recipe is quick and easy and works just as well.

2. Slightly more complex: take a handful of rose petals or some rose water and add this when you are blending your cucumbers. Maybe bruise the petals and let them steep in your toner container, if you’re concerned about aesthetics and presentation. Full disclosure: I can never get any good roses so I’ve only done it with rose water. You can also bring your rose petals/rose water and cucumber cocktail to a very low heat for a few minutes in a pan to infuse the two better. Use a VERY low heat! Treat it more gently than you would choux pastry or custard. This one also smells nice.

3. What I Use Personally: Juice a chunk of cucumber, then add half as much in volume very strongly brewed green tea that has cooled to room temperature. When I say very strongly brewed I mean 1-2 tea bags in half a glass of water. Refrigerate and use twice daily. Reduces redness, clears the skin, and is mildly antibacterial. It moisturises well, and yes, it does help a bit with scarring.

Now go and make this so you can pretend it’s a present from your favourite genius consulting detective.

THE Roses

Since the series begun, I don’t remember much discusion being done over the roses in the promo pics… (apart from the first two weeks or so)

At first, most of us thought about the roses representing the cases that would be made in the series. But what if we where wrong?

New theory: the fate of Little Dipper’s members

Quick note:

Yes, I know I cut off Wato and Sherlock from the original picture, but they are not roses in this theory. Maybe their fate would be Sherlock as THE detective and Wato as the WRITER/DOCTOR; their growth towards their canon equivalents. Or maybe the fate of two of Little Dipper’s members being in Sherlock and Wato’s hands? I don’t know.

Back to the point…

In my idea of things we have six roses helping the seventh or seven roses protecting the eighth. Either way, we already have two down (from left to right, and from top to bottom in the first picture):

Yuma Shiina = hanged Akiko Mizuno = “exploded”

In my opinion, next episode (Stella Maris) will bring the second rose (we see a dead man bound to a chair in the trailers). I was hoping for the big reveal with an episode’s name like that, but maybe it’s a bit too early to show the face of the big schemer. (Specially considering that both Moriya and Mariko will show up at 221B, we saw them on the trailer.)

BTW, I think Mrs. Hatano’s photo shoot was done in 221B as well, is that right? (I mean Hatano’s side of the building)

Thoughts on Miss Sherlock Ep #5

First thing first.... WATO "THE DEFINITELY GAY FOR SHERLOCK" TACHIBANA DIDN'T KISS THE PHOTOGRAPHER GUY... That being said, I can have my peaceful sleep again (not that I can't sleep after watching the supposedly kiss scene on the trailer) Sherlock being tsundere but also worry for Wato is so cute, like she definitely wait for Wato in front of the door, and she absolutely know that Wato is being depressed and forcing herself to smile. So instead of asking or prying on what happened to her, Sherlock asked her what she thought about the case. That being done, Wato got distracted over her depression. (my shipper heart is melting over this scene... Gahhh.) Also Sherlock know about Wato's stress over the photographer guy, and low key referring Mrs. Hatano needs to find a photographer to Wato. Skip the photographer guy and Wato scene, because my poor shipper heart can't handle it. Mrs. Kimie "The Godmother of Watolock" Hatano is absolutely definitely know that Sherlock is care and worry about Wato's depression, thus she asked Wato to get the photographer guy to take a picture of Mrs. Hatano. Also horay for Mrs. Hatano to tease Sherlock's tsundere side for us. (cue to the soft music at the background, as the scene played, Another full blown strike to my shipper heart..) Also if Mrs. Hatano knows about Wato's bomb scar then Sherlock "The know it all" Futaba definitely know about it too... Did Sherlock "the always perfectly measure scientist" really coincidentally made the toner too much for Mrs. Hatano... Duhh of course not... That all being said, the real MVP for this episode is Mrs. Kimie "The Godmother of Watolock" Hatano... someone give this lady cookies...
