Im a little confused about the terminology of the moonstone/opal. It's mostly called the moonstone but sometimes, mostly in early season 2, its the opal. Is this just because the writers haven't made up there minds, or does it actually canonically have 2 names like the sundrop/flower.

It canonically has two names like the Sundrop/Flower.

Does anyone else think that one of the two peasant looking guys in Edmund’s story might be Herbert? Like Fitzherbert is actually the royal family name?

It’s possible one of them is! But I’m not so sure that Fitzherbert is the royal family name. I personally don’t think, now knowing of Eugene’s royal lineage, that “Eugene Fitzherbert” is even his birth name. Meaning Eugene has a REAL real name XD

Why exactly did the sundrop flower leave behind a dead physical flower after it was consumed by Arianna? Why didn't the flower itself get absorbed with its magic? Could the moonstones magic be separated from the opal, leaving behind a normal gem? Or could that only be done by the sunflower because it was grown BY the sundrop, as opposed to the moonstone, which is the original drop just hardened.

I haven’t really considered it, but I think you hit the nail on the head. The Sundrop was liquid sun that fell to earth and grew a flower that contained its power, while the Moonstone fell to earth like a tiny meteor (I maintain that the splash pattern of the black rocks in the Dark Kingdom with the Moonstone at the epicenter looks like it’s landing place).

Another thing to remember about the Moonstone is that it’s all about that unbreakableness. I don’t think you could break the Opal to get the Moondrop out, even if there was a liquid Moondrop trapped inside there (and I’m not saying there is).

You can buy a moonstone just not the one in the series sadly rip. Moonstones are actually very pretty and not super expensive (unless you buy like. A really big one). They look dull white until they hit light and then they shine this really pretty blue!! Idk im obsessed with them

I know. I’m extremely familiar with minerals. ^_^ I mean frankly, it doesn’t really look like an opal, either. Here’s gemstone quality examples! (I’ll even pick some cut in the same shape.)

The show’s Moonstone looks faceted, and neither of those stones are ever cut with facets, because it spoils the fire.

What if (and bear with me here)...

What if Rapunzel is the Moon?

She’s the only magical human in the series so far (as in could produce her own magic without relying on potions or whatever other external force). The rocks went “looking” for her because she’s the Sundrop, and are now guiding her away from Corona and to the Dark Kingdom. What is moonlight but reflected sunlight?

What if they get to the Dark Kingdom, and she’s the one - the only one - who can touch the Opal, and takes the power into herself?

What if Rapunzel becomes a BAMF celestial demigoddess?
