Settareh lives among her many sisters, being considered an outcast due to the star-shaped birthmark on her cheek. Still,  she is very kind, giving a poor elderly woman most of her money that was to be spent on new clothes for the Prince's party. She is then entranced by a small blue jug that she buys, which secretly grants her wishes, including clothes for the party. When her sisters find out about the jug, they ask it for a way to be rid of her,  and it gives them hair pins which turn Settareh into a dove. Still, she keeps the prince company as a bird until he finds and removes the pins

listen. they do an episode where they're all sucked into Cinderella and they make the trans teddy bear Cinderella. Incredible story writing, 10/10, no notes.

Mofurdella is even plot relevant, that episode is how they get the Rainbow Carriage for their group attack anyway MOFURDELLA FIRST CINDERELLA PRECURE EPISODE TO GET ONE MOFURILLION VOTES

Jewish Cinderella. tells her dad she loves him as meat loves salt, he thinks she doesn't love him and kicks her out, she ends up marrying the rabbi's son and when her dad shows up to her wedding she has his food prepared without salt. and then her dad's like, this tastes terrible. and she's like, yes because meat loves salt

Part 7 of my Cultural Cinderella stories is The Persian Cinderella by Shirley Climo and illustrated by Robert Floraczak. This version of Cinderella is set in Ancient Persia (now Iran) and features a girl names Settareh, which means star.

This version of Cinderella was interesting to me as a child since it was one of the first books set in the middle east that I ever read and talked about the different culture. Most notably the way the men and women where kept separated, living, eating and working in separate parts of the house, why women hide their faces and the different legends of magic.

In this version the fairy Godmother is a genie or a pari who lives in a little blue pot and is never seen though out the whole story but grants every wish Settareh has. When the Prince Mehrdad (this is one of the few versions that give the prince a actual name!) decides the throw a New Years party at the palace.

The story sticks to tradition for the next parts, Settareh is magically given a beautiful dress with diamond ankelts, she goes to the party, meets the prince, runs away, loses an anklet, all the girls try it on, it only fits her and she goes to the palace to marry the prince. But there is also an added adventure to this version that I always liked since it made the Prince and Cinderella have to really work to be together. The step-sisters are so jealous of Settareh that they cast a spell on her turning her into a dove and Mehradad must work, though patience and kindness to change her back.

The illustrator of this version, Robert Florczak did tons of research to accurately portay the ancient Persian style of clothing, architecture, colors and landscapes. The resulting watercolor pictures are wonderful and a kind of magic all their own.
