I know Arthur tends to be seen as the blandest of the suitors. But, I do think it is refreshing to see a male character who is allowed to so openly grieve in the text. 

And before anyone says that shouldn’t be a high bar to clear, let me remind you that this is a Victorian novel. Allowing Arthur to be so emotive while also reassuring the audience of his masculinity is a big deal. He is not compromising being a man just by expressing his feelings.
