Disclaimer I have not seen 28 years later but if you wanted to watch a "the zombies are still people and how we treat them reflects society" then you would really love The Rezort, which is literally a private corporation selling rich people the ability to hunt zombies for sport. Naturally theres only so many zombies so they have to start making their own- by posing as a refugee aid organization and "farming" zombies from displaced minorities

The Rezort on netflix is pretty much safe apart from one scene where a man is coughing blood (I found the audio to be quite triggering) SPOILER: after Jack gets bitten, mute and maybe look away for thirty seconds or so until he gets shot. The movie is also pretty gory in general so avoid it if you’re sensitive to that kind of thing.

Also I’m watching this movie called “The Rezort” and I’m pretty sure it’s spelled like that because z is for zombies, but someone actually coming up with that name and using it is hilarious to me. Like was it an emo tween? Was it an emo adult? Whoever it was I’m expecting black greasy hair.

The Rezort - 5/5

So, The Rezort, directed by Steve Barker. After the “zombie apocalypse” a resort is opened up on an island where you can pay an enormous amount of money to kill zombies. It’s used for fun, and for “healing”. Some doctors felt it would help some of the people that were around for the outbreak to go kill some zombies in a controlled environment, though I don’t quite see that logic.

“Every apocalypse deserves an after party!”  

I liked this one a lot. The casting was pretty good and the script wasn’t awful, and the zombies, though very average, were definitely not the worst that I've seen! 

This is literally Jurassic Park, but with Zombies, and it’s a lot worse than what happens in Jurassic Park tbh. 

I’m not sure why 16-year-olds were allowed on the Rezort? But that happened.

The gore isn’t too bad, mostly just blood splatter and the like, though there are some torn up bodies in a few parts. 

The ending, definitely not 100% expected.

i’m fucking CRANKY about this movie

let’s get some shit out of the way first

it is an extraordinarily well-made cheap horror movie with the premise of “jurassic park, but with zombies”. really likes symmetry, generally well-shot. very effectively uses characters to sort of propel you along instead of flashy set dressing and huge herds of extras. uses some tropey horror stuff very very effectively, uses cgi sparingly and pretty well. also a lot more plot than i expected from a b movie. also a lot more psych effects of war than i expect from any movie.

but, y’know, surprise surprise, all the people who aren’t white men naturally die first, which docks it a whooooooole lotta points

it does a good job of worldbuilding here and there with posters and school rhymes, but ultimately not enough

it’s not too long, which is always nice, and I didn’t feel like it lagged anywhere

i want melanie and sadie, above, to go found a nice sapphic commune somewhere and dump their awful boyfriends. i’m also really really cranky about how under used they are for the zombie fightin portion of the movie, given that the film spends a LOT OF TIME setting up their characters and making us care about them but then...sort of forgets about them?

have i mentioned i also STRONGLY DISAGREE with how underused the two ladies above were- both of them are early on shown as not big on guns, which is fine, but then they make some weird gun-related choices throughout the film. lady villain & lady zombie villain also woefully underused. 

also, the zombie source felt a little TOO timely? very uncomfortably holocaust-ish as well??? however tho that was a hell of a twist i gotta give em that  

very much seems like they wanted to make a sequel but just sort of jammed some plot hooks in there for a sequel instead of thinking about how to gracefully lead into the next one. literally, how the fuck did character a survive the thing

three stars bc it was pretty, would have been four if it actually used its non white and non male characters and had a non white lady in a speaking role
