The Ruby Circle Thoughts

Hi y’all,

So, I finished The Ruby Circle in a day (11/9 to the morning of 11/10), and as always let me know if I missed anything.

Sydney and Adrian are in bliss.

Okay, no they’re not. They feel trapped and have their first fight

Also, Daniella constantly interrupting their “private time” unintentionally will never not be funny!

Adrian has the bright idea to take a walk outside and gets attacked by Wesley and his friends, but Neil and Eddie save him

MS. TERWILLIGER!

Yes, the box was sent to Sydney

It didn’t explode!  But it has a flyer for a robot museum and a picture of Jill in a magazine

Okay, this screams Alicia (because I know she is not fucking dead), but like was it panic that clouded the judgement of everyone that Alicia might be hiding Jill?

We’re escaping (not you Adrian, you need to stay here and cover for my ass)

 SYDNEY IS TURNED INTO A CAT (that would be a really cool fanfiction tbh)

 The real Mr. Bonjangles (yes, I had to look up the name again) stays at Court

 Sonya visits Adrian and wow, Adrian is not a good liar

 Nina is looking like Avery right now, minus killing people

 The mega robot display (the robot based on the movie that Eddie watched) is enchanted.  Cool. Cool

 Let’s break into the museum and get attacked by fucking mutant fireflies (Fotianas), and then Sydney finds a brick (just what I always wanted!) a map, and Jill’s hair

 Adrian, don’t lie to Rose, but at least Rose took you to see the Moroi training with magic

 The many many spirit dreams of Nina and Adrian trying to find Olive (I still think Olive is pregnant), and Nina continuing to use too much spirit

 Hey Nina, can you get me out of Court, and I’ll help you find Olive?

 Sydney almost running into her dad, and Zoe actually showing remorse, because she didn’t know that re-education was basically getting tortured.

 Sydney, Jackie, and Eddie investigating Ha Ha Honka, and find another brick

 Eddie, I’m going to make you invisible and make myself invisible because you can’t see the brick and I can 

 Nothing.  The brick is just a gold brick

 NEVERMIND.  THE GOLD BRICK SOMEWHAT EXPLODED AND IS MOVING (the shape matches the Salton Sea)

 So, it’s like the Keepers but more civilized

 Olive at first not wanting to see them, but after Adrian mentioned Nina, Olive walked with Adrian

 I hate Randall Ivashkov (Adrian’s Uncle), but no way in hell did I figure out that he was Dimitri’s father, which makes DIMITRI AND ADRIAN COUSINS

 Rose was like 😶😶😶😶, Adrian was like WTF, and Dimitri is like 🤨

 STRIGOI ATTACK AND OH MY GOD OLIVE IS GOING INTO LABOR NOW?!

 Adrian goes to help the wounded after, while Sydney has to hide from the Alchemists 

 Adrian overused his powers (he should have saved some!)

 Olive dies 🙁(I cried)

 Declan (the child) is truly Neil’s child (...oh, Dhampiers can’t have kids…OH IT’S BECAUSE OF SPIRIT)

 Adrian: Hey mom, here’s a baby that I need you to help me take care of, no no no, HE’S NOT OURS

 THE WHOLE COVEN IS HERE!

 No sign of Alicia

 Sure…let Sydney and Eddie go to get weapons from Malachi ALONE. Nothing bad will happen

 Alicia.  Of course this fucking bitch is still alive

 Sydney and Alicia fight, and a mirror spell is used, Eddie is frozen, and Sydney uses the mirror spell to freeze Alicia

 The Chihuahuas are actually trained to attack. Huh

 IT TOOK YOU THIS LONG TO FIGURE OUT THAT THE FUCKING WARRIORS OF LIGHT HAVE HER?!

  Eddie and Sydney will participate in the Warriors recruitment

 Damn, the Alchemists know we’re not at Court

 ROAD TRIP NUMBER THREE TO A SAFE HOUSE

 Using magic and hair dye to evade detection and pretending to be siblings always works (also, taking off your wedding ring too)

 I’m tired and going to summarize what happens with Eddie and Sydney in the Warriors in the next few bullet points: boys and then girls do a trial to collect as many wooden hearts on a cross from as many competitors as you can.  Eddie wins and Sydney wins by cheating (attacking one of the male winners and taking his hearts)

 Sydney and Eddie get asked some questions (as do all the remaining recruits) about their opinion of Moroi and Sydney gets PTSD flashbacks to re-education

 Sydney casts a sleeping spell on her roommate, turns invisible, explores the compound, overhears a meeting and someone typing notes on a laptop, and she meets up with Sabrina and Eddie

 Sydney creates Fotianas, steals the laptop, runs into one of the Masters, punches him, and hightails it outta there

 While all that is going on, Adrian is pulled into a spirit dream by Sonya and shown Nina’s condition

 He also visits Alicia (who the coven has unfrozen), and compels her to tell them where the Warriors are holding Jill

 He also tells Neil that Olive is dead and that Declan is Olive and Neil’s son (Neil does not take this well)

 I love Howie! (He also hacked into a computer)

 The laptop has Jill’s information and the Warrior’s deals with the Alchemists

 Hey, we only have three days left to save her?!

 Never thought Sydney would do bribes, but it works! (Also, I thought we were above selling charmed Moroi blood?)

 The Alchemists and the guardians work together!

 Wait, Eddie, why are you stopping?

 HOW CAN YOU REMEMBER THE SMELL?

 Sydney: You know what? Alicia placed a hydra to guard Jill, so I’m just gonna summon it real quick and kill it. Adrian in the background panicking

 The whole fight with the hydra was cool but I hated when it looked like it was about to kill Sydney

 Adrian, don’t use too much spirit!

 Fuck off Aunt Tatiana’s hallucination

 I cried when Sydney was trying to bring Adrian back from all the spirit

 Rose saves Jill!

 They gave her ANIMAL BLOOD?! Those motherfuckers can die a slow and painful death

 Neil: alright I’m gonna dip now, see you never!

 THE BRIBE WORKED!

 Re-education will take a while to revise, but at least everyone who escaped plus Sydney and Adrian are finally free

 Sydney blackmailing her father to help Stanton as well as re-negotiate the custody agreement over Zoe was a power move right there

 I never would have guessed that Adrian would be off of spirit and taking the mood stabilizers again

“I thought moroi couldn’t compel other moroi.” 

“Usually they can’t. Unless the compulsion is really strong,” Eddie said.

“Maybe kids are more susceptible,” I reasoned. 

“Have either of you ever seen anyone use compulsion that causes a full-blown brainstorm?” Trey asked. 

“No,” I said. Eddie hesitated. 

“Once. Just one time,” 

Jill, who had seemed lost in her own head until now turned to listen to Eddie with us. 

“I’m sure you were briefed about the battle at St. Vlad’s, Sydney.” He glanced towards Trey. “Basically, the strigoi teamed up – largest group we’d ever seen – fifty, I think. They attacked my school after convincing some humans to weaken the wards. We were holed up in the moroi senior dorms. Last line of defense. I think I was the only one of my classmates who’d ever seen a strigoi before, and I had quite the chip on my shoulder after… my first encounter with one. 

“Our teachers were doing a good job of holding them back for a while, but eventually we needed to evacuate through a utility tunnel to the next dorm over. There was a weakness though – an egress hatch,” Eddie scoffed, indicating to the escape ladder above our heads. 

Another reminder that we really needed to get going. But I was engrossed. Eddie rarely talked about his time in school. 

“We’d almost gotten everyone through. I was towards the back, but not quite. I turned around to do a quick check, and when I did, I saw one of my classmates, Moira, get pulled into the shadows where the stairwell was. So I followed. When I turned the corner, I interrupted her talking with the strigoi. I don’t know why they were talking. No idea what was even said… But he’d already ordered her to ‘Go,’ – go to their base, maybe – but when the strigoi saw me, he reversed course – told her to stay, to fight. To attack me.”

10 aniversary of the ruby circle.

I can't believe it, 10 years ago I finished the Bloodlines saga. And the worst thing is that many things in this world were left unfinished. Many of us are still obsessed with finding the answers with our fanfiction. I thank the fans who are still active, I love them😍. Although many do not like Ruby Circle, the truth is that I respect this installment and I would love for the author to write a short story about these characters and their new lives. It's already a lot to ask, but I will continue dreaming.
