I thought of a what-if scenario revolving around the Soos for TCF Part 2 and potentially Part 3.
Imagine, okay—imagine that Sui Khan and Jung Soo are in a life-or-death situation when dealing with the Hunters or more powerful foes, they're giving all what they've got and the circumstance they were forcibly shoved in demands them to sacrifice their lives or else there's no way out of it.
Obviously, Cale is having none of that crap. But he freezes as he watches Sui Khan and Jung Soo fight the enemies in front of him—all injured, scarred, and bloody—and instantly Record sends his mind into a wild frenzy, playing the last memories of how they've struggled to fight against an unranked monster in South Korea, everyone tragically dying one by one, Jung Soo's head drooping as he takes his last breath, and Soohyuk murmuring his final words to him: "I leave it to you." , and the utter, wretched feeling of despair, guilt, and misery flooding through him for not being able to do anything—for being useless.
Everything is too unbearably familiar.
Cale feels something warm trickling down his chin, and both his head and body are rapidly burning. But he pays no mind to it as his feet begin to move on their own, shoving Sui Khan and Jung Soo away from the enemies. Their eyes widen at Cale's sudden intervention, mouths opening to desperately yell at him. However, Cale ignores them. Or rather, he can't hear them—he can't focus on anything at all. His ears are ringing loudly and his heart is beating too fast for his liking. All he can see is red coloring his vision as he confronts the enemies himself, seething with rage.
How dare the world try to take his hyungs away from him again?
And when the enemies have met their demise, Cale just stands there in the middle of the battlefield, breathing heavily, his chest heaving up and down, mind gone completely numb. Not too long after, he coughs a mouthful of blood, causing everyone around him, especially Sui Khan and Jung Soo to fuss over him as usual.
Sui Khan and Jung Soo give him an earful lecture, furiously (and worriedly) scolding him for the stunt he just pulled like the idiotic sacrificial punk he is, soon followed with a couple of jokes from everyone to lighten the mood.
Cale doesn't say anything, silently staring at them, eyes unblinking.
What? They have the audacity to scold him for stepping in so he could save their lives and prevent their deaths? When they were about to die in front of his very own eyes again?
And he might come to regret not restraining himself later on.
"...That's all what you have to say?" Cale asks quietly. He has his default stoic expression on, but his eyes are empty and devoid of light.
"I've seen you two die right in front of me and I, being the useless coward I was, couldn't do anything but watch it all happen—!"
For the first time in his life—Cale breaks. He spirals as anger consumes him entirely. It's directed toward his family. He has never aimed his fury toward his own family. Nor has he ever been fully honest about what and how he truly thinks and feels with them.
"Had I not stepped in, I would've lost you two again! I can't afford to watch you die when I could've done something—anything—to stop it! I've already lost you once, and I don't want to lose you again! I know—I know I'm selfish and trash for wanting you to live, but I don't want to see anyone die in front of me anymore! Especially Sui Khan and Choi Jung Soo! Is it that hard to understand?!"
Everyone goes speechless, stunned by his words.
Immediately, Sui Khan and Jung Soo are filled with understanding and immense guilt.
Cale doesn't have the chance to see their reaction as his eyelids are getting heavier with each passing second.
Before he knows it, he passes out, utterly drained and exhausted.
