Someone needs to confiscate these books !!
One more to add into my Priest Cale collection, this one is a commission though.
they’re both focused on very different things 👀
i like my grown men traumatized and whimsical
bonus
Ok everyone remember the 'why am i crying? im not sad' heartbreak? Guess what i got another idea-
Anw Cale doesn't really show his emotions let alone cry consciously right? The only time you see his tears is when he's literally going thru some unbearable torture-like situation. So im thinking, what about crying in sleep? He's not immune to nightmares (considering Record i won't be surprised if he has them regularly), so what if he tears up in his sleep?
Consider, maybe it's the days around the Soos' death anniversary, and altho the world is different now (and his body as well), his soul remembers right? His psyche does, and so do the records. But instead of having the time to grieve quietly he's working himself to death in battles and war and cutting on more sleep when even that much isn't enough. He's raising his hands and shielding his people and in his mind he's standing in the position of Choi Jung Soo and he's glancing back exactly like that foolish man once did, only to see his fam looking back at him worriedly.
In his office he's working alone and gazing up searching for the ghost of someone, only to see Ron's usual smile as he serves him lunch on his desk. Around him his kids are bantering and giggling but all he can hear is a distant laugh and his heart aches but he cannot rest, he cannot forget.
And eventually he does collapse. Fatigue, or perhaps after using his powers again. Or the stress, the ptsd.
But as his fam's watching and Ron's changing the damp washcloth over Cale's head, he just, freezes. The redhead shifts in his sleep and groans a little, and his expression is twisted and his brows are furrowed as if in annoyance, but thats not what his fam sees. From his closed eyes, tears are dropping—slowly, steadily.
Maybe in the collective stupor someone blankly mutters 'Cale?' but the redhead isn't Cale, he's unconscious as Kim Rok Soo who is once again living through the deaths of those who had held him up all his life. Cale curls up on himself and eventually the soft groans turn into sobs but even those are so quiet, so hesitant, as if even when unconscious he cannot allow himself to cry—to express himself so unashamed.
And suddenly everyone's panicking but they can't shake him awake since he hadn't rested properly in weeks, but Ron who had taken care of child og!cale before just, starts patting his back in gentle, slow circles. And everyone's hovering anxiously about the two when Cale shifts in his sleep, his disheveled hair dropping over his eyes, and now all his fam can see are his dripping tears and his twisted lips. And the kids curl up around him, and nobody points it out that they're crying too, and Raon buries his face right underneath Cale's shoulder and as if on reflex Cale puts his hand over the little dragon's head, still asleep.
Im thinking of what would happen afterwards. His fam would never let him know, mostly for himself, but Cale would notice something right?
Maybe when he wakes up his eyes are moist but his face isn't, and maybe he finds it unusual (which implies he had already cried in his sleep in the past) Or maybe he doesn't pay it much mind, his head is too messed up from the past days and incessant nightmares, maybe the fact that there's no one immediately by his side (other than the kids) is what makes him confused.
And afterwards? When every single person of his fam avoids his gaze? When Beacrox brings him sweets every second hour? When Choi Han meets his gaze so oddly, as if he isn't sure what to feel? When his kids are hovering around him all the time, their gazes following his every move?
Maybe he does notice, and just asks casually when meeting Alberu, 'did something happen?'
I personally like to believe that he doesn't. Sure, he may find it weird, but with his mind occupied and his body exhausted, he wouldn't bother it with much, unless something had happened to his fam, which it didn't.
Im thinking of Cale crying in his sleep and afterwards just sighing in relief when he touches his face and it's dry, and im thinking of his fam watching his tears in despair, having no other option than simply wiping his face in a muted silence.
one of the funny bits in the lcf novel is when cale finally has some time to slack off, and cales like slacking off is great #vacation!
then you get the pov of anyone else and he is exhibiting symptoms of clinical depression
I was thinking of a prompt, burnt out Cale specifically. Like canon never described his weariness, never in detail, because Cale himself never paid it much mind. So here's what i thought-
At first it's barely noticeable, just fatigue and frequent headaches—nothing unusual for him who deals with Record. Sure, he couldn't sleep well most days now, and it required twice as much effort just to keep his eyes focused. Some days, he felt too nauseous to have anything, but that wasn't a big problem, not with his APs.
But it didn't stop. It got worse with time, and as someone who had lived through an apocalypse, i think Krs!Cale would vaguely be aware that he was burnt out, having seen many in his past suffer the same, but in the end, it wasn't a crisis as long as he could still work and eat well, so he simply ignored it. Time didn't permit such rest, and neither did his plans for the future.
Till one day, glass tipped over from his grip, shattering with such a shrill that he winced at the sound rather than the tea burning his hand. The next moment, everyone's rushing to him, checking his hand and cleaning the glass away, and Cale could vaguely make the voice of his butler asking something, but he's only standing stiff. Staring at his hand, wondering what was wrong. The burn stung, but even that felt so distant that Cale didn't know what to make of it.
It was fine once, a few more times even, but one evening he was sitting with his fam discussing an important plan, and Cale was speaking clearly and focusing on his words when he just, stopped. And his fam was confused but so was Cale because he just, forgot what he was talking about. It felt even more baffling that he forgot something when he had Record, but his head suddenly hurt and his ears were ringing and he knew his fam was worried so he tried to remember, he tried to press his hand to his eyes to ease the strain and tried to wave away his kids who were squirming around him, only to sigh and finally continue what he was speaking on, brushing off any questions regarding his health afterwards like it was nothing.
Maybe he loses his footing one time, maybe he was walking down the stairs and his vision twists in a sweep when someone by his side hastily grabs his arm just before he tumbles down. And then he's just, dazed. Not because he almost fell from such a height, not because of the panic and worry in Choi Han's eyes, but just. something he can't quite pinpoint. His heart is hammering at his chest and his breath is shaky as he barely manages to brush off the swordsman with faint reassurances that sound like nothing even to his own ears.
Im thinking of Cale, who is willing to shrug it all off as long as he can work. Im thinking of his kids who are quick to notice that his muscles now strain with the effort it takes him just to smile, and Alberu who can only watch as he's sitting still for hours with an empty gaze, and Ron who doesn't tell the redhead if he asks something he had already asked before, and that not a single person of his fam can ignore the way he's withering away right in front of their eyes, while Cale himself is willing to ignore it all.
Mostly canon, but I always love imagining Cale's expressionless face being misunderstood all the time when he happens to emote a bit, in any way different from his usual expression.
Like 90% of the time, his face is just blank. Couldn't care less what's happening around. Possibly thinking of dinner or napping later. So when he does frown a bit, or even just slightly purses his lips, others are just shook. Thinking that they committed the mistake of their life, and there's no way the Commander is letting them off now this is it-
While his family easily recognises that as his Ron-just-served-him-sour-tea frown. Or even a he's-craving-sweets-again sigh.
Imagine in the middle of an important meeting Cale just puts on the most exhausted, drained out of his soul type of expression, and the other leaders just feel so bad for him, blaming themselves for letting him shoulder all of the work, for standing at the frontlines of every battle ever. While Alberu just rushes the meeting because he knows that his dongsaeng's lunch time has passed, and the meeting has still not ended, so both the Kingdom's safety and his golden plaques are at risk.
Prompt inspired by Nonchalant™ Cale as he gets stabbed (aka stabs himself). Ok so Cale coughs up blood a lot right? And even with the Vitality of the Heart there has to be some after-effects, fainting being the best one.
Imagine some time he had coughed up blood without his fam knowing or maybe he hadn't eaten anything in a long while, and he's just dizzy and delirious and he's struggling to remain afoot so he just grabs whoever is standing near him. Probably Choi Han, and the oblivious swordsman is startled when the redhead pulls his arm out of nowhere and just, stares at him. And he's like ??Cale-nim? and he can vaguely tell that the redhead isn't really looking at him and he's worried quick when suddenly Cale just says, 'Choi Han' and takes a breath which Choi Han isn't sure helps, 'im going to faint'.
And then the two just, stare at each other in silence when there's a thud. with Cale collapsing in Choi Han's arms which he just reflexively raised and there's ???? written all over his face and Cale's face is serene as if he simply fell asleep and only then does Choi Han notice the smear of blood on the redhead's sleeves and now he's bewildered and horrified.
Just imagine Cale being in any situation vaguely aware he's about to topple over any moment and just grabbing the first person he sees in sight and going 'im about to collapse' and collapsing in less than 5 seconds.
AND AND when he wakes up his fam is exasperated and maybe Alberu was the victim this time (his heart stopped beating when the redhead just fell down two seconds after the casual 'im fainting') and Cale's just confused like 'but i informed you beforehand tho??' and Alberu is so baffled he forgets what words are. But then he looks at Cale and the latter's just confused as well so he lowers his standards to the minimum and just, ruffles Cale's hair, sighing and mumbling 'right, good job...' and any other time Cale would've slapped his hand away offended but actually even he feels a little proud of his progress this time so he just lets it be. Which only makes Alberu sigh again.
*AlbeCale, don't interact if y'all not into that*
I gen do not think Cale and Alberu would ever voluntarily hang out, because they're so similar and so busy.
So all of their encounters, likely always semi-public and official in some capacity, just end up romantic as they fall for each other through Cale's shenanigans and Alberu's (mis)fortune of being in the recieving end of it all.
And everyone is just.. there. Like with the scene in the Mercenary Records Room. Cale starts unbuttoning his shirt, totaly scandalous in that era of fashion, in front of the CROWN PRINCE, which is even more mind-boggling to everyone present.
And Eruhaben is there, wondering if Cale was ever taught human courtesy, Ron wondering if he should stop Cale first or kill Alberu for watching, Bud wondering if this guy is an alien and Glenn wanting to go home (he wasn't even there I think, but he'd feel it).
Cale doesn't care at all, closing his eyes and tipping his head back against the cool wall, sorting through the information in his head as Alberu is wondering why he even tries with this guy, rapidly switching from thoughts so unholy the Sun Goddess would curse him again to being so tired he wants to fall through the floor and fake his death to rest.
And that's just one instance.
At balls, for the very first dance, Alberu always takes the unwilling Commander tucked in the edges of the room, trying to avoid attention, only to accept the Crown Prince's hand with no hesitation once he's found, their secret smiles shidden behind elaborate steps and clever angles.
At quick, private meetings with their closes allies, they discuss plans and share brilliant strategies with sly smirks, matching in ways that only ones eerily similar could. They always nearly forget about the other leaders in the room, so caught up being 2 steps ahead, always, and yet somehow still beside each other.
When at war, the Crown Prince disguised as one of the dark elf warriors, quickly brushing his Commanders hair behind his ear, respectully backing off when he gets a flustered glare from the other with an easygoing giggle.
During outings with the red-head, and the family the Crown Prince is also part of now, where he actually takes part of the shenanigans that would give him many headaches later, predicting all of his Commander's messes and still letting them happen with a secret smile and an exasperated shake of the head.
And in each occasion, they get space, space for the secret glee and the scheming, the scammers smirks and devious plans. Never meant to be, but always so intimate, one has to look away.
Perhaps one day they'll get it together. But until then, everyone gives them these little moments. Knowing them and their... obliviousness, at least towards the feelings of others, it'll take a while.
("Thankfully, that means lots of blackmail." Rosalyn comments. Multiple people agree, while others, not so much.
They'll just have to wait and see.)
this is hilarious because YOU KNOW they would.
They so, so would they'd push the thought that this is simply the best plan they have to quell unrest in the Roan Empire or something, even though it's very clearly because Alberu accidentally asked for Cale's hand in marriage and then tried to cover it up with political bs, only for Cale to agree.
They both know the other likes them back.
They both know Alberu meant every word of his accidental proposal, eyes filled with hope despite the obvious panic.
They both know Alberu trying to cover his slip up is because of their responsibilities and priorities being everything but their personal lives.
Alberu knows Cale accepted the, frankly illogical, reasoning because he wants to stay with him, despite trying to reason otherwise.
Both know the other knows.
It's always been like that, and it probably always will be. That, because of the weights of their goals, of the country and family they protect, because of the dangers they encounter daily trying to keep everything from falling apart, they will never dare speak of their private, selfish desires out loud.
But they know themselves, they know eachother. They are similar in this way, and that's why they work.
Albery is a King, an Emperor, with a duty to his country and servitude to the lands. He is a ruler first and foremost, his life has always been as such and always will be. Organising, giving orders, seeing the results of his hard work, seeing his kingdom and empire come into itself and flourish.
Cale, a transmigrator and a man torn by circumstances out of his control, given his own life and grasping it tight, treasuring both his new people and this new world. His family, extensive as it is, and this world, as exhausting it is, is his own priority and his lifelong hope. A peaceful life with them, even more so.
They have their own lives, their own goals, they are individuals that have been solitary for so long it feels impossible for anyone to try and become as close as a lover. But Cale happened to Alberu, and Alberu to Cale.
Quiet nights writing documents, watching each other though communication orbs, talking in hushed voices before a meeting and sharing sharo glances during them. Watching the kids from afar, watching Roan from a distance, watching each other from up close as they stand next to one another.
Perhaps, it had been inevitable.
Similar, but different. The same, but opposite. Day and night, sun and moon, gold and silver, the willing prince and unwilling hero. Completing each other.
There is nothing more attracted to each other than two sides of the same coin or opposite poles in magnets.
"Marry me."
So, when Alberu's tongue slipped in a rare moment of weakness, gazing fondly upon Cale's fluttering red hair on the balcony of his room, bathed in a golden light, it was more inevitable than unexpected.
Softly shocked reddish-brown eyes turned to nearly black ones, wide and unblinking for all of two seconds, making Alberu realise what he'd said.
They stand in silence, the young master still taking Alberu's breath away so he couldn't speak, couldn't get the words from his throat, silenced by awe at his partner tucking hair behind his ear. Not just his appearance, though the reddening cheeks and avoidant eyes only add to the beauty of Henituse's eldest son.
"Alberu." Shaky, somewhat unsure. A rare tone, all in itself, to hear from Cale. His face is back to the same calmness, poker face doing it's learned part, but perhaps because of their closeness, Alberu can tell the man is out of his element despite the fast laced thoughts behind his eyes.
So he back tracks. Sweat-drops and barely stabilized shaky hands move as Alberu covers his slip up with the worst performance of his life.
That is a good move, politically speaking, that Cale would be able to completely slack off even though the ruler's wife should most definitely not be doing that, that Alberu needs someone trusted in the castle and doesn't want anyone else other than trusted friends in that position, a million other things he can come up with in the spot with his brain scrambled by unprecedented amounts of stress.
Cale is catching all of these lies, because his eyes blink habitually everytime he's unsure and processing, and Alberu stutters like an idiot everytime those eyelashes flutter.
Soft hands press up against Alberu's clothed chest, just resting against the fabric. Not pushing away, just grounding Alberu's somewhat erratic mini breakdown, because he's never had a worse fuck up then this.
"I mean, the position would be vacant anyway and giving it to a trusted-"
"Okay." Cale replies, having calmed down and finished his calculations.
For what, the Emperor isn't sure.
Alberu stares at the man in his arms. The one that's looking uo at him innocently.
"...okay?" He asks. "Okay, what?"
And now he gets stared at like he's the idiot. Which he probably is, considering he accidentaly overstepped their very complicated and yet very simple relationship with about a thousand unspoken rules they never bothered saying outloud.
"I'll marry you." The Henituse replies, voice turning as sure as when he's decided on one of his self-sacrifice plans that are actually just near-self-sacrifice plans are worth it. "But you're planning it."
"Huh? I'm planning the what?"
Noticing Alberu's subpar processing speed, Cale's face turns into a small pout. The one he doesn't even notice he's doing.
"I said, you're planning the wedding." He folds his arms in front of his chest, leaning into Alberu's arms as they subconsciously circle his waist.
"Uh-huh." Alberu nods, stupidly. Idiotically. The cogs turning in his head feel so visible one would assume he's trying to solve famine and world ending events, not his (apparently, since twenty seconds ago) fiancé suggesting they actually get married.
"I can't do any work in the future either. Or at least the bare minimum."
"Yeah."
"And we need to invite our entire family."
"Of course."
"And the wedding can't be too long, there needs to be enough delicious food to sustain all the guests. The parade around the city can only last an hour, maximum."
"Mhm."
"And the kids need to attend too. We have to get everyone's outfits tailored, but I'll ask Ron to handle that. Everything else is your task."
"Mm."
"..." Cale's eyes sharpen, looking into Alberu's own. "Are you listening?"
The Emperor, gazes at Cale with glassy eyes and a flabberghasted expression. A mix of surprised, flustered, in disbelief and utter shock that he gets only when seeing Cale pull off shenanigans halfway across the continent.
It quickly turns into a soft smile, eyes crinkling from how wide it gets, presses their foreheads together. Rubs their noses for a secind too, to indulge himself.
"I am." He says, squeezing Cale. Feeling he's real, that this is real. "I hear you loud and clear."
"What did I say?"
"That I, an Emperor with a full schedule, should plan the wedding between me and you, the slacker with a bunch of time. Unless you and the family get your cookie-crumb dirtied fingers on it."
He gets a surprised stare, like Cale can't believe Alberu is insinuating that he would take on any extra work, eslecially within his slacking time.
Alberu snorts, unprincly and undignified. Cale hasn't changed in this regard, in the years they've known each other. Perhaps because of how there's no barricades preventing him from exoression it, or perhaps because he really can't slip up anynore than he already did...
"I love you, Cale Henituse."
Cale's eyes widen for a second time, thin face turning crimson once more from the directness. The man turns away, covering the lower half of his face with his hand and muttering so quietly that Alberu picks up on it only because of being quarter dark-elf.
"-love you too..."
A breath he didn't even notice he was holding in gets released with a breathy laugh, and Alberu can't help himself when he lifts a hand to Cale's cheek to angle him for a kiss he dives in for not even a second later.
Soft and unhurried, they spend their first minutes engaged languidly kissing in the morning sun, bathed in it's light.
("You know, seeing the morning paper, I didn't really expect to see an announcment of my best friend being engaged." Rosalyn speaks up into the filled room full of their family, sans Cale and Alberu. She's very clearly unbothered by this news. "Though I would have appreciated knowing..."
"I don't think they themselves knew it would happen." Choi Han replies, looking both happy and a bit exasperated.
"The human is getting married? When? How?" Raon questions, asking his noona and hyung next to him. Hong clearly has no idea, so On starts explaining the various things she's learned from Alberu and Cale, as well as what she was taught by the Henituse family teachers.
"Ho, ho." Ron quietly laughs behind a cup of tea, standing next to his son. He sounds surprisingly soft for a man Alberu thought he'd be killed by for even courting Cale.
Deruth Henituse is tearing up right next to Ron, on his other side, while Viola hands him a hankerchief while counting the size of the dowry and how she'll get Cale to actually try on wedding suits. Lily and Basen are already talking about the many ideas they have for their brothers wedding clothing, she she will start there.
The entire room is u hurried, soft, in a way ine wouldn't exoect after the announcment of the mist desired and highly-established men of the Roan kingdom.
But everyone has seen them and their relationship develop over the years. The past few months have been esoecially grueling, if only because they've started being more obvious than longing glances and too-close dances.
Their happiness is first.
Agressive shovel talks second.)
I need this
This is some of the illustrations I drew for a Greek Myth theme LCF offline event.
Below are illustrations for cards, with Cale as Dionysus, Alver as Icarus, Choi as Perseus holding Medusa White Star and lastly Kim Roksoo as Hades with his trusted three-headed hound Ceberus (three Chois)
The last two (Cale as Dionysus and KRS as Hades) is for two standee 1:1 scale. The results look amazing, but both KRS and Cale are shorter than I expected them to be.
I used to wonder why Cale's people worry so much about him. Like at the point I was at just before now in the novel it made sense- he keept vomiting blood and playing it up so he could laze around for weeks after. I got the coddling. But, I know they are like that later in the novel as well, even knowing how many ancient powers he has. Even after (spoilers I heard about) he faces gods and their tests? I mean even if they don't know about the vitality of the heart, at some point they should go 'Cale is like a cockroach, he's so fucking durable' and relax.
But then I got to where I am (chapter 304-ish) and it makes sense. Man just doesn't STOP. He fought in the gorge of death. Then his plate got fucked up. Went to get it fixed, was laid in pain for like three days. Immediately after, he got up and went to meet with the crown prince for scheming. Messed with both Arm and the Mercenary's guild at the same time. Went to help Toonka. Went to the jungle to talk with Litana. Went to the empire to talk shit about Aiden, then went to pretend to be Aiden's ally for profit and to smack him in the back later (I laughed out loud when he was basically in EVERY side of the war AT THE SAME TIME). He was coordinating with the Whipper side, while also seemingly helping the Empire, WHILE ALSO conspiring with his own people (I loved the bit where he asked Raon to bring Saint Jack over because he knew he was gonna have to act out in front of the Empire, but since he didn't want to lose his hard earned clout with the people from the Empire, he used their own patron God's Saint to back up and support himself as justification lmao). Stopped the golems, and then, WHILE STILL IN THAT FIGHT AND LITERALLY TREMBLING FROM EXHAUSTION, he is like 'gotta wrap things up quickly here so I can go help the Jungle, they can't deal with the golems on their own'.
Mind you, all these events happened one after the motherfucking other. He hasn't had a chance to fucking breathe. I know he's okay, I know he has a regenerative ability, and I was still gritting my teeth while hoping he would slow down for a minute to take a nap and maybe eat a fucking snack. I completely understand his people. Because even if this man is like a cockroach in that he could survive a nuclear attack, he's definitely gonna die before hitting 25 due to overwork and stress. He does not have an off button and despite what he believes he sucks at delegating.
So in love with this one 😭😭😭😭
The expressions, the desperation in Aki's voice and Angel telling him that he is fine with dying, the intimacy?? Aki saving Angel's life at the cost of his own. Perfection.
I actually have big plan for Cale’s birthday this year (*cough* animation*cough*) but life got the better of me so here I am.
Happy birthday, my beloved!
Collabing with @anemicbunnicula again for part 2 of our LCF Big Bang project because I loved them and how they brings my figments of imagination to life.
Go read the fic, guys! I swear it’s an amazing read 😍😍😍😍😍😍
