Quick little fanbinding of The Steve Rogers Problem, by @relenafanel . Go read the fic and heap praise on it, for it is wildly funny and also has tumblr-style sekrit identity shenanigans. Fantastic typeset by @catspawbindery , my contribution to this creative effort was to choose vaguely-Captain America- inspired colors as Steve(actor) plays Cap(fictional character).

I gifted this typeset to caughtdaydreaming for the 2024 Renegade Typeset exchange. However, this series has also been in my bookmarks for quite a while, and so i jumped at the chance to capture it in a book! I worked on binding these during February, when Renegade celebrates Binderary (an event for book binding similar to NaNoWriMo or Inktober).
In the series, Bucky spends some time on social media, including Tumblr. So I thought it would be fun to have each chapter start framed by the Tumblr new post screen:
The scene breaks are the logos from various social media sites, pulled to coincide with the time of posting (2015-2017).
Once I decided to create the book, i decided to run with the Tumblr theme, so of course the fabric I picked was "tumblr blue", with pearlesent paint for the title to reflect the Tumblr logo. The endpapers are a reminder of everyone's favorite crabs.
I wanted to try out several new-to-me techniques for this bind.
1) This was my first time using my guillotine to trim the edges* of the textblock (no more sawtooth!), which allowed my to try adding color to the edges of the text block for the first time.
2) These are my first sewn-boards bindings (a technique where the boards are glued into card folders already sewn to the text block. This is definitely an easier way to get covers on a text block, but doesn't allow room for endbands, and doesn't cover the very back of the boards).
3) And my first time using my cutting machine to cut out a stencil for the cover!
As usual, I wanted to gift a copy of the book to the author, and the author has received their gift! Thank you @relenafanel for this lovely Stucky story, I hope this reminds you are on the regular that you are appreciated! Thank you for your contributions to fandom!
For those interested, I’ve also included this fanbinding in the Renegade Publishing Fanbindings collection on AO3, located here.

Bucky doesn't consider his Steve Rogers problem as a problem so much as the solution he hadn't realized he was hoping for to help him through the transition from the Bucky Barnes he'd been before his accident to the new, shiny version of himself.
No, the problem isn't with Captain America and The Howling Commandos fandom.
The problem is the amount of porn Bucky managed to write and draw about Captain America before finding out that he's less than one degree of separation away from Steve Rogers. 'Less than' as in he's sitting across the table from him.

...
Y’all. You need to read this.
Bucky is an FBI agent recovering from a major injury, left arm obvi
He falls into the fandom life and starts writing fics. About Steve Rogers.
Who he then realizes later that he used to know as kids. And then he meets him again.
also features Sam Wilson, perfect idiot best friend.
Oh my god @lesbiau you just inspired my brain to go in a few different directions:
1. Does Becca get this for Bucky before he and Steve get together in tSRp so he just opens his gift and then jokingly posts on his blog about his new boyf (like I just did) only to want to die / purge the internet once he meets Steve?
2. Does Becca get this for Bucky AFTER he and Steve get together so he opens it and is like
OR does Steve buy it for him for the same reason?
(And that reason in trolling)
3. A whole different au where Bucky has this big boy, posts pictures like ‘look at my new boyfriend’ and someone tags Steve. So there’s Steve Rogers staring at his Twitter or IG like ‘oh my god that’s Bucky Barnes’ as he flails in his LA hotel room like asfffffdaadfs WHAT THE FUCK
Also, there’s a scene in Civilians GDI where Bucky’s coworkers try and fail to troll him with one of these. I just remembered that.
Thought: the Steve Rogers problem AU, but someone thought it was a smart idea to openly threaten a celebrity at their own event, with their (somewhat former) FBI boyfriend on hand.
This is also an idea I’ve had. [mentioned here]
Imagine, tho. Imagine. Bucky is at a con, living his best life, wearing a super hot costume (I mean hot like yaaaasssss but probably also sweaty), and enjoying being there. He’s probably dressed up as TWS, hiding his face because at this point fandom knows who he is, and he’s on hand when someone threatens Steve.
I went with the bomb threat from CGDI but imagine. Bucky probably lets Steve handle the dicks who grab him when he’s in public because Steve is capable of knowing how to firmly say no, but imagine someone with a gun and Bucky is disarming them so quickly that it’s finished in the blink of an eye (and then the video gets on the internet that shows just how terrifyingly competent it was)
Or, like, I’ve always secretly loved the ‘stuck in a bank robbery trope’ - like, is it Die Hard where Steve is in trouble and Bucky goes for him? Or are they both in trouble and Bucky is like ‘play it cool babe I got you’ and solves it?
And to bring back the bomb threat, I live for Bucky leading Steve out of the building with a weapon he managed to find, like the lead character in a video game. We all know Steve isn’t passive, but I love the idea of him... letting Bucky do his job, appreciating all that competence and the way Bucky is in his element, so very very good at it.
(then ofc they have the competency kink sex later right?)
OR you could have the natural disaster / non-direct threat. Like their lives are in danger but not specifically because of a person. tSRp Bucky is the guy you want with you in an apocalypse.
My favorite fic of yours is The Steve Rogers Problem. It’s hilarious and well written. I love Bucky’s pov and his relationship with Steve is the cutest thing ever. And Steve’s support of Bucky’s fanfic *dies*. There are so many things I like about it but the thing about this fic that really stayed with me was Bucky going through PT. A few months ago, I was severely injured and I had to go through PT myself. I was this bucket of misery and your fic had a relatable character that really helped me.
<3<3<3<3
I’m glad tSRp could be there for you during your recovery.
Ironic story - I had written most of the fic before I broke my ankle and was in a cast for 4 months. A lot of the PT parts were made up, but then I was able to go back and edit before posting with the actual experience, and they still held very true. I didn’t have to do much tweaking, so tSRp goes down for me as one of the times I was accidentally psychic and wrote about an experience before I had it. Sometimes that happens because subconsciously I’m analyzing things I haven’t consciously realized yet, but clearly not this time.
Also, tSRp (and series) is something I hold very close to my heart because a lot of Bucky’s feelings towards fandom and the need for it during certain periods in your life are so important and reflective of myself. I get annoyed when people assume this is a self-insert fic because they see ‘fan falls in love with actor’ and immediately type-cast the trope, and to me the fic isn’t that. at. all. Steve being famous is secondary. It’s a catalyst, but it’s not the story.
