Concerning news about Diana Paxson and The Troth. This is coming from a reddit post where someone copy/pasted the statement from someone else and I'm not too sure how valid it is. I also haven't been a member of The Troth for decade so I don't have any info from inside the organization.
Tl;dr Diana Paxson is an enabler and apologist for the monsters who committed child molestation around her. Also possibly protecting her husband who was involved in this. When this info was brought to The Troth they seemed dismissive and belittling. 3 months later they are asking her to step down in some roles but remain a member of the clergy and an Elder.
Here's the link to the post on reddit if you want to read it. Warning: talk of child sexual abuse and victim denying.
I’m Thinking of Leaving The Troth
So yeah, like the title of this post says, I’m thinking of leaving The Troth. My membership is up for renewal this month, and I’m thinking of letting it go unrenewed, but I haven’t quite made up my mind yet.
I mean, I like a lot of their resources, but the unfriendliness towards other Jotnar outside of Loki and Hel kind of makes me not want to bother with it any more. I mean yeah, Loki and Hel are the primary focus of my worship when it comes to Norse gods, but I also have strong and solid relationships with the rest of their family, and the organization’s overall take on them, not to mention the various takes from a lot of individual members leave a lot to desire.
Also, I’ve just recently come to the conclusion that as far as I’m concerned, I don’t think national organizations are the way to go when it comes to organizing modern versions of Polytheistic faiths like Heathenry. There is so much I could write further about this, but I don’t have the time or the energy to spend on writing it out at this moment.
I’ve already left and allowed my membership to Arn Draiocht Fein to falter and fade away, and I don’t plan on looking back on that organization for sure. Though I’m still friends with and connected with a specific grove located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada that I consider spiritual friends and family. There are so many reasons why I finally gave up on ADF. I just don’t know if I am ready to do the same with The Troth yet or not.
I’ve also backed out of any of the courses done by either Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids, as well as the Brittish Druid Order. There are things I still like and enjoy and am sincerely fond of from those two organizations, but Druidry isn’t a solid part of my practice anymore regarding any of the Celtic based spiritualities such as Irish or Welsh Polytheism.

Diana Paxson has been removed from The Troth. Good. But honestly I don't think much would have been done if people hadn't collectively called bullshit on The Troth's original "actions" against her. There has been evidence of DP's apologist behavior and straight up inaction about the CSA going on around her for a while now. They've done so little until called out. I have a lot of problems with the way The Troth has been going but this is the most disgusting I've seen. Don't get me wrong I'm glad they removed Diana but the fact it took so long and they really only did something when more people started calling them out on it is gross.
Anyway, I'm going to warn about CSA mentions since that is the big problem here but it's not explicit.

Hey shut up
Having just attended my first Trothmoot (virtually), I've gotta say, we should be talking about the Troth more! I was so impressed by their inclusivity and progressiveness. We had two excellent talks on racism - one on taking action against it and one on its history in the US - and throughout the entire event, there was just this great push for welcoming all people and acting against prejudice/"-ism"s wherever they were found. From my understanding, the Troth has had a rocky history with this stuff, being formerly in sort of a "middle ground" stance - but it seems like in the last few years the leadership has really shifted their stance and has been working hard to uplift the oppressed and move against the oppressors. I know for a fact the current Associate Steer is very active in a number of social causes and is just an incredible and welcoming person IRL. As a newcomer I'm really proud of my new community! Hail the Troth☀️
