Man, there really was nothing like that hiatus between seasons four and five. Fresh off the sniper arc. Will reveal newly, well, revealed. Eddie calling Buck ‘Evan’ for the first and only time ever, with all its connotations. No serious Buddies closing because of the relationships the guys ended season four in. So, so much for fic writers, editors, and artists to play with. A relatively short/normal length hiatus. Content starvation that everyone was already accustomed to because Fox didn’t feed the fan base like ABC tends to.

Not even the hiatus between seasons seven and eight reached the hilarity of the 9-1-1/Buddie fandom post-sniper and will reveal. So many newer fans still catching up after hearing about bi!Buck. BTs and LFJ causing chaos weekly (and sometimes daily), even while Buddies spread the funniest misinformation just to see what people would believe from randos and anons.

That hiatus between seasons four and five probably isn’t where the most fans were gained, but it was definitely the most fun time to play in the writers’ sandbox without being attacked by people who disagree with Buddie. We may not have had the confidence that bi!Buck would eventually give us that Buddie would be going canon for real, but the fandom went nuts with that late season four content. Content creators churned out the foundation for Buddie in fandom from then on. So much fun.

My favorite argument what it comes to buddie revolves around the will (ofc) especially when people try and say that it’s not, for lack of a better word, odd that Eddie named Buck as Chris’ legal guardian in the event of tragedy.

“They’re best friends, it’s not monumental” okay okay, to play devils advocate here for a second, you’re right. It’s not unheard of for parents to name their best friends as guardians. My parents did it with me and my brother. As a matter of fact, my parents best friends (a married couple) are my brothers god parents as well as being our guardians (before we became adults ofc)

Here’s the difference between Buck and Eddie and my parents and their friends (as an example). Buck and Eddie have known each other/been best friends friends for roughly three years (at the time he told buck) and two since he made the legal change. By the time my parents had kids, my parents had known their best friends far longer than Buck and Eddie had known each other. My dad been friends with them since high school, and my mom since she met my dad where they all worked together a decade before I was born. These people and their kids are literally my second family we all grew up together and their daughter is my best friend in the entire world.

So I guess my point is that it’s not necessarily that the act of making Buck legal guardian is what is making us all explode even a year later, but the fact that it’s literally only been a couple of years of knowing each other; it’s the speed and intensity in which Buck and Eddie’s relationship got to that point.

So what I’m getting from Tim posting a 9-1-1!Vertigo movie poster and including Buck, not Marisol, in what is presumably Midge’s role, is that there didn’t necessarily need to be cheating for this arc to work. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I love a good dramatic arc and Vertigo is a banger choice for Eddie’s Catholic guilt and Shannon grief arc, but as far as I know (yes, in my hour of Wikipedia and Twitter deep-diving), that movie doesn’t actually contain cheating, so I’m curious if there’s a reason for it other than drama or not making a carbon copy 9-1-1 version of Vertigo. Is it to make the audience start to dislike Eddie like the Vertigo audience is meant to slowly dislike Scottie, as he continues to make bad choices? Is it to encourage the GA to see Buddie with Buck as the pining Midge? Desperately want reassurance that Tim realizes by making Buck a part of this storyline (especially as Midge), there is no feasible way to dismiss that. Even if Buck’s feelings aren’t explicitly addressed, that poster and any potential on-screen pining aren’t going to be swept away. Season 7 paralleling season 4 regarding Buddie and it’s because The Will and the Vertigo Arc won’t be ignored by the fandom. We’re all gonna go a little crazy methinks, and I can’t wait.
