Chapter 25 - All Rise
I Knew It All Along by littlerose13
“I’ll miss you so much, my little angel,” Albus whispered, kissing Matilda’s forehead for probably the fifth time since he’d picked her up to say goodbye. She squirmed in his arms and blinked her wide blue eyes up at him. “What if she thinks I’m not coming back?”
Scorpius sighed and placed a hand on Albus’ shoulder. “You’re going for a few hours, she’ll be asleep for most of that time.”
“But she doesn’t have object permanence yet, Scorpius. She might forget who I am.”
Laughing, Scorpius stroked Matilda’s chest and allowed her to grasp hold of his thumb. “She can’t forget her daddy.” He shook Matilda’s arm gently. “You won’t forget Daddy in the space of three hours, will you, petal.”
Matilda responded by pulling a face of extreme discomfort.
“See? She’s disgusted by the very idea.” Scorpius took her from Albus and held her against his chest, his strong hand concealing almost all of her head. She let out a small whimper and Scorpius kissed her head. “Shhh, sweetheart,” he soothed. “She misses you already.”
Albus checked his watch and sighed reluctantly. He cupped the top of her head with his hand and smiled. “I have to go, baby. Bye, Matilda, I love you.”

Six Sentence Sunday
“How’s the baby?” Thea chatted as if they were in the queue at the post office and not waiting to enter a full Wizengamot trial to determine her future in the sport she loved so much.
“I miss her,” Albus admitted with a little shrug. “I’ve never left her before.”
“Aww.” Thea patted his shoulder. “She’ll be fine with Scorpius!”
“Look at these.” Albus reached into his pocket for the photos he’d taken only that morning and developed with some Fleamont’s quick-flash. “I picked her outfit, look how cute she is.”
He spread out the three photos in his hand, all of them of Matilda lying on a fluffy rug and kicking her legs about. She was wearing a tiny cream pinafore dress patterned with daisies with burgundy tights and Albus could honestly say he’d never seen a more adorable child in his life.
“Look at her,” he said, mainly to himself.
Thea smirked. “You’re such a dad.”
“I literally am, yes.” Albus laughed and put the photos back in his pocket. “Sorry, I’ll tone it down.”
“No, don’t. It’s cute. Can I see her again soon?”
“Yes of course! Whenever you want,” Albus said immediately.

this scene is happening today in my scorbus timeline☺️☺️
“Hey, Scorpius.” A voice spoke as Scorpius stepped out of the carriage and he realised it was Thea Jordan approaching him, a wide smile on her face. “How great that we’re both prefects!”
They hadn’t, as Scorpius could recall, ever even spoken before now but Thea’s words implied they had known each other years. “Yes, it is quite great.”
“Where are you sitting? Shall I come and find you to do patrols together?”
“Er, yes, good idea. I’m sitting down here, with Albus.” He gestured vaguely in the direction of where he knew Albus was sitting waiting for him.
“Albus Potter, you two are joined at the hip aren’t you?” she observed, but there was no hint of mocking in her voice. “Show me so I know where to find you.”
She followed him enthusiastically and Scorpius worried how Albus would react when he returned with Thea Jordan in tow. She didn’t seem to notice and chatted away to him about her summer as if they were close friends.
The compartment door was a little stiff when he tried to slide it open, but Albus didn’t look up at the noise. He was staring out of the window, and Scorpius noticed he was wearing his earphones and listening to something on his magical music box.
Music to Albus was what reading was to Scorpius. He rarely did anything in silence, often softly playing music in the dorm or, like he was now, tuning out the rest of the world with it playing directly into his head.
As he got the door open and entered, Albus did look up and pulled the earphones out. They hovered in mid air, chattering madly, then snapped themselves to the side of his music box so he wouldn’t lose them. He smiled at Scorpius but the smile faltered when he spotted Thea.
“Hi, Al, good summer?” she asked kindly from the doorway.
“Er, yeah it was alright thanks. Yours?”
Scorpius was impressed Albus had asked Thea back about her summer. He could come across incredibly surly when he was unsure about somebody. Still, never cold and unfriendly.
“Wonderful thankyou! Well, I expect we’ll be seeing a lot more of each other this year. See you later, Scorpius!” She slid the door closed neatly and skipped off.
“Did Thea Jordan just talk to us?” Albus stared at the spot she’d been stood in. “And did she just call me Al?”
“Turns out she’s the other Slytherin prefect,” Scorpius explained, sitting opposite Albus. “And I call you Al all the time!”
“But… but she’s Thea Jordan,” he spluttered, hands gesticulating wildly. When Albus really wanted to get a point across, he tended to talk with his hands quite emphatically and Scorpius found it incredibly endearing.
“And you’re Albus Potter and I’m Scorpius Malfoy. Glad we have everyone’s names clear.”
“You know what I mean.” Al’s hands dropped back to his sides. “We’re nobodies to her. What did she mean, I expect we’ll be seeing a lot more of each other this year?”
“I suppose she meant because her and I are both prefects. And we aren’t nobodies!” Scorpius said, offended. Albus gave him a look. “Okay, maybe we are a bit. But not anymore! This is our year remember?”
“How could you let me forget?” Albus leant back, going to replace one of his earphones.

“So this will be the hallway,” Scorpius started to explain, closing the door behind him and gesturing around the space in front of them.
“It’ll extend to about… here.” Albus walked to where he thought was the right place. “And this is where the staircase starts.”
Truthfully, he and Scorpius would happily have given the guided tour of their unfinished house to absolutely anyone they could get to agree to it. Scorpius liked to go into great detail about feature walls and accent colours and Albus liked to imagine the place filled with their furniture and their life together: lazy Sundays in the well lit master bedroom, cooking for their friends in the spacious kitchen and-
“And this will be the baby’s room,” Scorpius said excitedly, pointing towards the empty space yet to be magically marked off as a separate bedroom.
“When we eventually acquire a baby,” Albus added with a snort of laughter. “It’ll probably be empty for a little while after we move in.”
“And when will you be moving in?” Draco asked, looking around at the cavernous space of the upstairs floor.
“When it’s finished,” Scorpius said with a shrug. “But yes, it’ll go house first, then baby.”
“Well, not exactly. It’ll go baby planning, house then baby,” Albus said, counting it off on his fingers.

OC Tag
Thank you so much @truemeg for tagging me to share an OC with this picrew maker! I couldn’t decide between my two favs so I did both!
Here’s Thea Jordan when she’s in maybe her first year out of Hogwarts, because she wears her hair in a super powerful high ponytail throughout school, it’s not until she’s a young adult that she starts to wear it in a more relaxed way, and by the time she’s in her mid twenties she doesn’t straighten it anymore and lets her natural, beautiful curls shine! Imagine her a bit smilier, she’s playing it cool here. Thea is a Slytherin just like her mum (her dad, Lee Jordan, is an outnumbered gryffindor now) Head Girl and captain of the quidditch team, with grand dreams to play for the harpies, who she is invited to try out for when she graduates from Hogwarts (in fact they want her to tryout so much they’re willing to wait an extra year while she recovers from the repercussions of denying that she had Chaser’s Shoulder for almost a full school year) Thea’s ambitious and ruthless but she’s also got a heart of gold and is an excellent friend. She started dating Rose Granger-Weasley during fifth year after the two could no longer deny that their competitive rivalry was a cover up for the massive amounts of romantic tension between them☺️
And this is Cole Flint! He’s also a Slytherin and was raised by his dad, Marcus Flint, Oliver Wood and his beloved Nana Dolly. Cole wants to be friends with absolutely everyone, including his slightly odd dormmates who seem to want to keep to themselves most of the time, and he’s pretty thrilled when Albus Potter tries out for the Slytherin quidditch team in fifth year with him so he can befriend him, which he does extremely enthusiastically (Albus doesn’t know what to do with it at first) and by extension, Scorpius too. Cole loves quidditch but he’s never wanted to go pro because he finds a passion in coaching at his dad’s amateur quidditch club, The Flint Flyers, where he works full time post-Hogwarts.
I tag @trolleybitch who has some wonderful OCs and I know loves a good picrew, and also @yannfredericks because I’d love to hear more about her OCs!
Chapter 15 of shab will be posted on Wednesday!
Thea nodded vigorously. “I’m on the way to training,” she gestured out the window, “near here. Sort of. Anyway, I’ve been meaning to ask for ages if this is of any use to you.” She held out the glass bottle; Albus could now see it was shaped like a chicken, the bottle’s cork on the back between two outstretched wings. “You know, for your workshop.”
“Did Karl Jenkins make that?” Albus realised why it was familiar.
“Er… probably,” Thea said a bit sheepishly. “Someone gifted the whole team one each. I think it’s supposed to be a harpy.”
Albus took the oddly-shaped bottle from her and turned it over in his hands, feeling like he was missing something about the interaction. “Thanks very much, I’m sure I can… find a use for it.” He forced a grin and looked back over his shoulder towards the kitchen. “Do you want a tea or a coffee or anything?”
Thea looked grateful. “Actually, can I talk to you?”
“Instead of tea?” he joked weakly. “Of course, can we go to my workshop though? I’ve got a cauldron going in there.”
Thea looked pleased at the prospect. “An honour, being allowed in your workshop.”
“You’ve been in my workshop before?”
She shook her head. “Nope, I haven’t actually.”
Albus felt himself blush a bit and pushed the door open. “Well, welcome. Sorry if it smells a bit smokey.” He leaned over the cauldron to check it was simmering correctly. “Make yourself at home.”
Thea smiled widely and leaned against the workbench. “It’s really nice, very you, Albus.”

It was the middle of a busy Thursday at the hospital and as Scorpius entered the staff room to make a much needed cup of tea, his eye was immediately drawn to the notice board, at the centre of which was a newspaper article. Over the article, a bright pink strip of parchment emblazoned with a handwritten message: a reminder: NOBODY IS TO TALK TO THE PRESS.
His heart sinking, Scorpius pushed the pink parchment to one side so he could read the fairly short article.

BLACK CAT FLU RESISTANT TO POTION, TOP HEALERS FEAR
Our society is in the midst of a medical crisis, with the BCF epidemic now affecting over 65% of wizarding children in Britain. Despite St Mungo’s best efforts to catch the disease in its early stages, many children have been stuck in quarantine for weeks on end. Although problematic, it was believed that the situation was in hand due to the Ministry funded potion, supposedly the only thing able to cure the disease.
However, it has recently come to light that this potion isn’t as miraculous as we once thought. It relies on highly expensive Granian hair, which, while effective the first time, will eventually become useless if presented to the same patient too many times.
According to an inside source, the potion has less of an effect on the magical system each time it is used, with three full courses thought to be enough to build complete resistance in the average magical child.
With rumours of reinfection already occurring, this begs the question: what happens when our first child comes down with the disease three times? How will we save them?
We approached St Mungo’s for comment and were informed that procedures are in place to combat this potential problem, but that they were under closely guarded secrecy. Here at the Prophet we feel it is the right of parents to share in this information and we will be doing everything we can to obtain these plans and distribute them to the public.
Scorpius didn’t tend to use swear words but in that moment he found a few of Albus’ choice favourites crossing his mind.
