I listened to the glee covers of grease, chicago, company, funny girl, west side story, and rocky horror before ever seeing the originals and I think that really shaped me as a person

Like I was watching all of the original media within the the context of and in comparison to the glee versions

Which was cool

Hey little songbird rant

ok so it feels like we (yes WE) need to talk about hey little songbird so i’m about to go on a rant

‘where are you now, orpheus? wasn’t it gonna be the two of us? weren’t we birds of a feather?’ hits me so hard every time bc orpheus is writing his song thinking that that will help eurydice by bringing spring back but it ends up being bad for her. like i cannot imagine how guilty he felt.

and then we also have eurydice’s line ‘i want to lie down forever’ as a callback to ‘when your body aches to lay it down’ from anyway the wind blows which is making me SICK

and then there is the line about vultures which typically symbolize bad things happening/coming

and then there is hades calling eurydice pretty, and saying that she’s fine and would shine like a diamond in the mines which is insanely creepy

and speaking of creepy, hades’s part as a whole makes my skin crawl with his tone and the lyrics and just stop or i am never gonna stop talking

and ik i already mentioned this but eurydice begging for orpheus’ protection and help in this song and chant makes my heart wrench

I made this list whilst performing Ride The Cyclone and have experienced all of these things...if anyone has any add-ons I'd love to hear!

Calling a cast member by their characters’ name outside of rehearsal (I still do this, especially in my head. It's been ages since we performed. It's been hardwired into my brain.)

Hearing someone sing in the theatre bathroom and joining them or vice versa

Making a GINORMOUS mistake on stage

Breaking character and cracking up because of a friend/family member in the audience

Hearing a crashout from the techies

‘WHERE THE HELL IS MY [PROP]?!?!?!?!’

Having a ‘shitshitshitshitshitshit’ moment mid-quickchange (+forgetting how clothes and accessories work and forcing someone backstage to help you)

Starting your song and realizing the/your mic isn’t on

Forgetting the choreo and doing improv instead

Knowing EVERYONE’S lines except your own

Singing songs from a different musical

Talking instead of rehearsing

Lip syncing the monologue/lines/song backstage with too much passion

Being gay backstage

Trying to silently communicate backstage and failing

Forgetting how to sentence and spewing out a twisted version of your line that makes zero sense grammatically

I just love how we find breadcrums - I went on a comment section on a DPS post and a comment by SonjaToastbrot led me to this trailer. If you're on tiktok (I am extremely confused as to whether it is back) and Instagram does have reels of the French production which looks FANTASTIC - But this is a trailer of the German production - Hope this is helpful

Theatre and acting has almost cured my two years long depression that has been torturing me. I believe that it's healing me in places where I was crushed after my failures and mistakes, which made me mentally so weak and lost, that I had almost lost all my light. Yet I had crawled up from my downfall, it wasn't still 'it'. But then I got in to my local theatre youth troup and somehow it makes me feel so alive. I don't worry that much anymore or I feel more confident about my potential, skills and intelligence. I've started to do so much better in school. I'm feeling so much more safe in my own skin and I really feel like I'm able to do things 'cause before I felt so disconnected, like paralized and totally polarized from my old self. Now I'm pretty sure, that theatre has helped me a lot- made me a better person, especially for myself.
