Starter for @thedeserter
The dark forest worked in odd ways. Usually, no matter how far you walked into the woods you'd always end up back at the campfire. Usually. It's not unheard of for one of them to be gone for hours, even days. It's usually a product of the entity not paying attention, like if you decided to walk the very moment a trial started, or if a sacrifice was made the second you stepped over the line of the 'bubble'. Unfortunately, it can happen the other way around too. It usually doesn't, the killer's are content to stay near... whatever form of camp they had. Jake wasn't sure.
All he knew is that he wouldn't be caught up in that. He spend most of his time in the woods, but he was carful to stay in bounds. The fireplace was exausting for him. So many people, all talking and bustling about. Sure, he liked the company, just not.. all the time. He wasn't the best at socializing afterall.
Instead he stayed in the woods when he could, unless he was called into a trial. That's where he was now, quietly chipping away at a small pocket knife he had on him when he was dragged into This. It wouldn't be a use in the trials, as it was way too small to cause any damage. It didn't even have pliers on it. It was good for widdling, though.
i have been in this gay ass system for ten thousand years…

The Deserter (1970) ★★★★★★★★★☆
With NYT Bestselling author,Nelson DeMille #nelsondemille #johncoreyseries #thedeserter #thecubanaffair (at Mohegan Sun) https://www.instagram.com/p/CB8pK-xlC29/?igshid=7ihu19s355o3
The Deserter is the first collaboration from Nelson and Alex DeMille. “Captain Kyle Mercer, a member of Delta Force, deserts his unit and is captured by the Taliban. He escapes and is seen in Caracas. CID agents Scott Brodie and Maggie Taylor are sent to Venezuela to arrest him. As they investigate, they realize there is danger in Mercer’s story and some high in command don’t want anyone to know.” New characters here but fans of DeMille will recognize the voice of Jihn Corey. Lots of action and tension in the setting of Venezuela 🇻🇪 described as corrupt and on the edge of chaos. Fast-paced and full of DeMille’s sardonic humor. And there is darkness in the brothels of Caracas and the mind of Captain Kyle Mercer. A good read from the team of Alex and Nelson DeMille. Much better than his last book. Two of my favorite authors have new books this week. Michael Connelly (2nd row from top) with The Night Fire) and Nelson DeMille (4th row from top) with The Deserter, co-written with his son. Are you a Bosch and Ballard fan?
