Someone needs to point out to Taryn that she has a weird preference for men who betray her twin sister for their own selfish gain (Locke and The Ghost).
Edit: sorry guys I need to finish re-reading the wicked king and start re-reading the queen of nothing because apparently The Ghost was FORCED (by Locke) to betray Jude (because Locke had his true name). Lmao I can't believe I don't remember this.
Here’s a recently completed Japanese inspired sword. This is my modern take on a wakisashi sword. The video game #ghostoftsushima mostly inspired me to make this one. It will be available when done. Thanks everyone!!
Hey Y’all! So I was originally going to write this for Folktober, but then realized that I had a different idea for this prompt, but I mean @jurdannet @jurdannetrevels, if you want to include it, by all means. I know its for day 11.
I hope you guys enjoy this, and let me know what you think. I had a blast writing this, so that definitely helps!
“Who wants to play a game?” Taryn heard from across the room. Almost immediately, everyone began to form a circle, debating on Spin the Bottle, Never Have I Ever, and other weird high school party games.
This made sense, because it was exactly where she was, a weird high school party thrown by her twin sister’s boyfriend. All of their friends were in attendance, something that rarely happened since they started their senior year and began college applications and everything. Liliver and Van, leaning against one another on her left, Cardan and Jude practically on top of each other on the other side. Garrett was next to them in the circle, inching closer to his cousin Locke, not that it was any better considering he had his tongue down the throat of his boyfriend, Valerian. Across from Taryn, Nicasia just looked at them in disgust.
Once upon a time ago, Taryn never would have thought that she would find herself at a party with Cardan, let alone his group of friends. It had been her, Jude, Liliver, Van and Garrett, while Cardan had run around with Nicasia, Valerian and Locke. Now here they are, laughing and drinking, playing party games with former enemies, and all because Jude finally got the guts to walk up and kiss Cardan in the middle of lunch, unaware of his own mutual feelings for her.
“I have an idea. How about Truth or Dare?” Everybody looked surprised at the sound of Taryn’s voice. It was completely out of character for her to decide on a game, especially one like Truth or Dare. From the look on Jude’s face, she could tell her twin was trying to decide whether Taryn had had too much to drink, or had been abducted by aliens. Jude said as much, but Taryn only laughed before turning to Nicasia.
“Help me out here, Nic. I know you like to play Truth or Dare,” Taryn said. The girl on the other side of the circle only swept her blue-green hair over her shoulder before nodding her agreement. That was a strange friendship, Taryn and Nicasia. It was definitely one if the least expected to come out of this merging of groups. But Taryn respected Nic, how she made her presence known and fought for what she wanted, even if what she wanted wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. It also wouldn’t be lying if Taryn said she had a small crush on the girl, not that the feelings were reciprocated. No, they were just friends. Taryn had made sure of that multiple times, through multiple sources.
“Ok then… Let’s play Truth or Dare.” Jude laughed, getting up to grab a full bottle of tequila that their older sister Vivi had supplied, before leaving for a date with her girlfriend with only a ‘be safe kids’. Jude placed the tequila in the middle of the floor, a ritual for every game that they played (unless it was Spin the Bottle, then the tequila was moved to the side and passed around).
Cardan began the game, claiming this was his house and therefore he should be first. “Jude, my sweet villain, my forever love, truth or dare?” Jude smirked at her boyfriend, a second game playing out between the two of them.
“Why Cardan, you should know by now that I would never pick truth. Hit me with that dare.”
“Very well, let’s start this game with a bang then. Jude, I dare you to grab something from the kitchen, and eat it as seductively as you can.” Cardan smirked, but Jude did exactly that, grabbing a banana from the fruit bowl even as everybody groaned.
Jude went next, her victim being Liliver who chose truth and disclosed her sexual fetish. The game continued, some truths, mostly dares. Lots of drinking. That was the point of the tequila. If the dare, or the truth, was not answered to the extent wanted by the asker, both parties had to take a drink of the bottle. Taryn liked to switch back and forth between her truths and her dares, and had taken her share of the tequila multiple times because of her reluctance to partake in particularly risque dares.
Around the sixth round, everybody definitely buzzed, the bottle about halfway, things began to get interesting. It was Cardan’s turn again. Instead of asking Jude a question, as he had done for the past 5 rounds, he turned his attention to Nicasia, the only other person besides Jude to never turn down a dare. “Hello Nicasia,” he slurred slightly.
“Cardan, to what do I owe the pleasure?”
“Nicasia, truth or dare?” With her response of dare, Cardan continued. “I dare you… to kiss your crush, and if they are not in this circle, then you have to call them in front of us and tell them how you feel.”
“Cardan, you are such an dick. Jude, I hope you don’t like him too much.” Nicasia remained calm, even as a deadly smile appeared on her face. Jude only gave a nervous laugh, afraid of what she might do to Cardan. Taryn could see a vein bulging on the side of Nic’s neck, but just as quickly as the expression appeared, it disappeared as she looked around the room, and then at the bottle of alcohol in the middle of the floor.
She grabbed it, taking a big swig, and there was a gasp heard from Locke, at the idea that Nicasia was declining the dare. “Don’t hold your breath, asshole. I’m doing the dare. I just needed a little bit of liquid luck.” With that, Nicasia stood up and walked across the circle.
At first, Taryn thought that she was heading towards Van, her mind racing with all the problems that would solve. Those thoughts were erased as Nicasia paused in front of her, reaching for Taryn’s hand to pull her up. Cold hands reached for Taryn’s face before Nicasia’s ruby red lips made their mark on her own. Immediately, one of Taryn’s hands found a spot in the soft spot of Nicasia’s torso, the other moving to tangle in her curly hair as she deepened the kiss.
As Nicasia’s lips found Taryn’s, it was fireworks. There were no time restrictions, the world was on pause. Taryn would happily have remained that way, fighting for dominance in the never ending kiss, until it did end. Time seemed to resume as Nicasia pulled away, a deep red blush blooming on her pale skin.
Taryn was the first to talk. “I… I didn’t know you felt that way. About girls, about me.” As Nicasia looked away, Taryn grabbed her face, meeting Nicasia’s sea blue eyes, letting her see the emotions, the desire in her own eyes.
She leaned forward, pressing a gentle kiss on Nicasia’s lips. Suddenly, there was a loud commotion of whistles and catcalls coming from their friends, who had finally processed what they had seen and were now about to make a big deal about it.
“You know,” Nicasia smiled, returning to her old self, confidence coming back by the second, “I think this party is getting a little boring. What do you say about getting out of here, find ourselves a new scene?”
Taryn nodded. “I’d like that.” Smiling, she grabbed Nicasia’s hand as she was pulled out the door. Just before it shut, Taryn could’ve sworn she saw Nicasia utter a thank you to Cardan. All that was forgotten, however, as Nicasia pulled Taryn to her, and kissed her as though they had all the time in the world. And perhaps they did.
