🌟 ARC copy Book Review 🌟 Let’s start with a big thank you to Macmillan Audio productions, Minotaur Books and Netgalley for a free audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I am sure all the readers and reviewers fraternity love audiobooks but one thing which scares me is when a book involves multitude of characters. These characters need individual voices to help us differentiate and help us invest in these graphs. Huge credit to the narrator Clare Corbett and author Sandie Jones for giving each character an individuality- loved Ali- more about her shortly. The Agatha Christisque environment set up is pitch perfect as well. So the story in brief, couples Rachel and Jack. Paige and Noah head to Jack’s brother, Will’s and fiancé Ali (Jack’s ex- employee) destination wedding in Portugal. Things start getting weird as the book moves between each individual’s grey past and more secrets keep getting unearthed leading to an explosive climax. Although the book has been categorised as a mystery/thriller, it’s borderline domestic drama with a thriller element towards the final stretch. Credit to the author, the drama doesn’t drag, rather keeps you engaged as every chapter had a new twist coming. The whole story is narrated through Rachel’s viewpoint so the readers keep going through the same turmoil of judging the other characters and then feeling stupid for gaging someone just based on their outward attitude. That’s precisely why Ali was such a fascinating character and the evolution of the character (shoutout to the narrator) leaves you wanting more. So overall, the book works great as a domestic drama- not a huge fan of the thriller touch at the end. A Thoroughly Enjoyable experience ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ #bookrecommendations #bookstagram #bookreview #arcbookreview #theguilttrip #sandiejones #audiobookstagram #audiobookreview #macmillanaudio #netgalleyreview #netgalley #booknerd #booklover #bookphotography #clarecorbett https://www.instagram.com/p/CSxZJ2XB4BT/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Guilt Trip by Sandie Jones is a book full of couples drama. "Two couples - Rachel and Jack, Paige and Noah - head to Portugal for the destination wedding of Jack's brother, Will. Will's fiance, Ali, is younger and is determined to have as much fun as she can imagine. As the festivities get underway, secrets come to light. Who can be trusted? And now someone is dead..." This is more adults behaving badly drama than thriller. The story is mostly told from Rachel's perspective. She is a "worst case scenario" character. She sees something and makes a big jump in her assumptions. And it's always bad. This is fiction but as a reader you keep telling this character to take it easy and go have some conversations. It's annoying after a while. Jones doesn't really let us know what's happening until the end. And she does that with a wild scene at the wedding reception. A few surprises at the end. Great audiobook performance from Clare Corbett - I know she had a good time with "Drunk Ali" Fans of books like Big Little Lies should enjoy the drama here. Thanks to @netgalley and @macmillan.audio for the advanced listening copy. #theguilttrip #sandiejones #macmillanaudio #netgalley #clarecorbett #newaudiobookrelease #drama #couplesbehavingbadly #dramasuspense #bookstagram #bookshelves #booknerd #bookhoarder #bookworm #sodacityreads #bookish #bookreview #hardcover #bookcover #bookhaul #goodreads #homelibrary #fiction #domesticthriller #crimefiction #thriller https://www.instagram.com/p/CSEoa4MrDRa/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Guilt Trip (2012)
I love it when a movie surprises me. When I first heard of The Guilt Trip, it didn’t sound appealing, but after being urged by a friend to watch it, I gave the movie a try. I found that it was both sweet and quite funny.
Chemist Andy Brewster (Seth Rogen) has developed ScieoClean, a revolutionary cleaning product, and is looking to market it to big retail chains around the country. His attempts have all been fruitless. Before going out to make his last pitches, he decides - against his better judgment - to invite his overbearing and neurotic mother (Barbra Streisand) along.
This is not a lame road trip movie where two people that don’t get along pass through one wacky scenario after another. There’s a lot more going on than what appears on the surface. It’s about a son that loves his mom but is annoyed with her too. He's changed but she's still checking up on him like he's five years old and forgets to clean his room. She's still telling the same lame jokes she did decades ago now. You and he know she means well, but children move out so they can stand on their own two feet, have some space. There's a lot of truth in the way Andy feels... but what about his mom? This picture by Anne Fletcher puts the shoes on the other foot. As the story progresses, we begin to question whether he (and therefore ourselves) has been treating his mother right.
That sounds like some heavy stuff, and it can be. For the most part, what you experience while watching The Guilt Trip is a fun buddy movie and two terrific, talented comedians playing off each other. Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogan are great in these roles! They’ve got perfect timing and a natural-feeling relationship. Younger movie-goers may know her mostly from the Fockers trilogy but she's got so much to offer. It’s not only that the situations the son and mother get into are funny; they're funny individually and even funnier as a pair.
As The Guilt Trip wrapped itself up, it delivered a wallop of an ending. It plays something like this: first, some effective emotional moments, quickly followed by the biggest laughs of the movie and finally a real home-run for our characters. The ending is perfect. Everything you wanted to see wrapped up quickly and efficiently. As a bonus, the end credits have some nice little segments thrown in too.
You have a mom? Looking for something to do with her on mother's day? Watch this. It'll have everyone watching in stitches and might even bring you closer too. (On Blu-ray, November 12, 2014)
