Install shots from “Save Me From Tomorrow” that opened last night at The Holdout. When my luggage and supplies took a few extra days to arrive I took advantage of that and made sculptures from materials I could find on the site. I haven’t made pieces like this in years so it was fun to get back into it. Also made some paintings on paper and wood panels and a handful of monoprints (and painted a mural). Was a busy but amazing time to get out of the studio and create work in a very different environment. Big thanks to @andenken for making it happen. The Holdout

The Holdout by Graham Moore references Agatha Christie's work including Murder on the Orient Express. While this book does not go quite in that direction, it does have the same flavor of lots of lots of secrets and layers. Beyond the story, the book is a cynical commentary on the legal system, the jury trial, and the role of truth in a courtroom. The story and the implicit commentary both make this a memorable read.

The Holdout by Graham Moore is the rare legal thriller from #BOTM (February 2020) “A jury return a not guilty verdict for a teacher accused of murdering a student that he had a relationship with. Ten years later one juror claims to have new evidence and wants to get all the former jurors together to discuss for a TV show. He is found dead in the hotel room of one of the jurors and now she is accused of murder. But who did it...” I like how Moore leads us behind the scenes of the jury room. It’s a little terrifying to be honest - that twelve people hold your fate. You want justice but maybe they just want to go home. Moore leads us around making us wonder who to believe and if there’s any juror that doesn’t have a secret. Some good reveals and an expected twist at the end. It was interesting how Moore pulled it off at the end. I did not expect that.
