Holly J/Owen Story~
"There’s nothing you can do about it. So just put away the bitchyness and accept me."
“I’m fine, really you don’t need to come over.” Holly J smiled, fumbling with the tassles on her blanket as her phone lay balanced precariously on one shoulder, her ear pressed to it. “Are you sure? I could be there in five if you needed me to be.” Declan’s voice responded. Holly J rolled her eyes, “Seriously Declan, I’m okay. You promised your mom you would have dinner with her and—” before Holly J could finish her sentence the ringing of the doorbell cut her off, surprising her so much the phone slid off her shoulder. “Crap,” Holly J mumbled, patting the bed until her hand met the phone, “Declan can I call you back?” She asked, snapping the phone shut. Carefully, Holly J slid out of the bed, moving slowly towards the front door, trying to ignore the twinge in her side. The blue eyed, jet black haired boy that met her at the threshold was the last face she would expect. “Owen? Are you kidding me?” Holly J snapped dryly. “How do you even know where I live?!” She quipped sharply, opening the door more but leaning on the door frame so he couldn’t step in.
”Anya,” he said simply. He tried to take a step forward, but the tiny girl blocked his path. “Holly J, this can be easy, or this can be difficult. Just let me in so we can talk about this.” Holly J was shocked at how fast he appeared at her home. One minute she was replying to one of his posts, the next he was at her doorstep. She stood her ground. “No, Owen. I’m not letting you in.” Owen sighed heavily in annoyance. “There’s always plan B, I could lift you out of the way, and I don’t think that’ll be good for the old kidney.” Holly J was hesitant, “You wouldn’t..” Owen took a step forward, causing Holly J to back up, afraid of him hurting her. Owen took this chance to step inside, now she couldn’t get rid of him so easily. “For the record, I wouldn’t have. I wouldn’t risk your health like that. I’m not some monster.” The look on Holly J’s face was cold, “That’s why you threw Adam into a glass door?” Owen rolled his eyes. “Look, Holly J, whatever gave you the impression that I’m not good enough for Anya…you’re wrong. Whatever makes you think I’m such a terrible guy, you’re wrong. In fact, I’ve helped Anya more than you ever did.” Even though Owen was trying, he wasn’t exactly getting the point across well enough. He was still rude and cocky. But then again, Holly J had her rude moments as well. “I mean, I just want a clean slate. I’m not really the same person I was a few months ago..no matter how cliche that sounds.”
Holly J pursed her lips, folding her arms irately across her chest. “Why does it matter if I forgive you now, Anya is miles away at boot camp.” Holly J regretted her words as soon as she said them, seeing a flash of sadness pass Owen’s normally cool composure. Owen rolled his eyes, running a hand through his slicked back hair. “Look Holly J. You don’t have to like me, but I’m trying to make it work with a girl who is miles and miles away right now and it doesn’t help that her best friend hates me.” Holly J shook her head, walking away from Owen and sliding into a kitchen chair. Owen awkwardly hesitated before joining her. “Owen the fact that you think you’ve done more for Anya than I have tells me that we can never be friends. I didn’t lead her down a cokehead path, I tried to help her get into University! If she had done what I said maybe she wouldn’t be in the predicament she is in now.” Holly J said simply, content that she had won any argument he could pose.
”You really think I led Anya through the coke path? It was her choice! I wasn’t going to control her like she had been so used to in her life.” Owen paced around the room slightly, trying to calm himself down. ” What are you talking about? Anya-” Owen quickly cut her off before she could finish. “You know exactly what I’m talking about. Don’t pull that crap on me. I know how controlling you used to be. You think I don’t know how terrible you treated her? You treated her like a dog, when she only tried to be your friend. You used her for elections. You dated her ex boyfriend. Holly J, I was the one whogot her that interview for university. I was the one who encouraged her to call them. I tried to help your stupid fundraiser, and you insult me. I trained with Anya for hours and hours to prepare her for basic training. When she did coke, you think I encouraged that? After the first time, she wouldn’t stop. I didn’t put the coke in her hands. She went behind my back to do it.” Owen took a breath, clenching his fists slightly. “And when Anya comes back to visit, or comes back for good, I want us all to be there. She may be away, and it hurts like hell that she’s away, and it doesn’t help that her best friend still doesn’t think I’m good enough for her.” Owen was spitting out line after line. He tried his best to explain how much he tried to help Anya, but in the end she would never really understand. “Look, I like Anya, and I would sit through a million of Holly Js to stay with her. There’s nothing you can do about it. So just put away the bitchyness and accept me.”
Holly J recoiled as though she had been slapped as Owen made his case, his eyes flashing with sincerity. When he was finished, Holly J sat in silence, staring at the oak wood table below her fingers while Owen caught his breath. “You’re… right.” She mumbled. It was hard to tell who was more shocked by her words, Owen or herself. “I’ve been a… horrible friend to Anya. All she ever did was be there for me and I treated like crap.” Holly J whispered remorsefully, clenching her fists on the table and refusing to look up at Owen. Owen shuffled his feet awkwardly as Holly J tried to puzzle through her wrongdoing. The silence between them stretched on and on, until Holly J finally stood and looked reluctantly up at Owen. “You’re right. When Anya comes back— we’ll be together. All of us. And I.. I can try to get along if you can.” She grunted, swallowing her pride and extending a hand to Owen.
Owen’s face was in total shock, but he wasn’t going to argue with her. He reached out to shake her hand. “Truce,” he finally said. “I mean, I know I wasn’t the greatest at trying to get her, but I really liked her and I didn’t want to stop until she gave me that chance.” Holly J rolled her eyes, recalling all of the rude ways of wooing Anya. Not to mention he hooked up with Anya in Fiona’s bedroom and bragged to the whole school online. “Let’s just start with a clean slate,” Owen tried. Holly J nodded, “Fine, fine.” They released their grasp on each other and both stood there in silence. “Owen?” she finally said. Owen looked over to her, “What?” A strange look was exchanged, “Could you…I don’t know..leave?” Owen looked around the room and nodded, “Right! I’ll go now. See you at the Coyne’s sleepover.” He nodded and made his way towards the door. ”Oh, and Owen?” He stopped in his tracks and turned around to face her. “If you ever do anything to hurt Anya, physically or emotionally, I will hunt you down.” Owen, thinking about it, knew he would never want to do that to Anya. And if he did, it would probably be well deserved. “If I do, then I’ll expect a brutal ass kicking from Holly J Sinclair. I’ll be thoroughly disappointed if you don’t show up to do it, though.” The sarcasm was evident in his tone. And with that, Owen opened her front door and left.
"I'm fine, really you don't need to come over." Holly J smiled, fumbling with the tassles on her blanket as her phone lay balanced precariously on one shoulder, her ear pressed to it. "Are you sure? I could be there in five if you needed me to be." Declan's voice responded. Holly J rolled her eyes, "Seriously Declan, I'm okay. You promised your mom you would have dinner with her and--" before Holly J could finish her sentence the ringing of the doorbell cut her off, surprising her so much the phone slid off her shoulder. "Crap," Holly J mumbled, patting the bed until her hand met the phone, "Declan can I call you back?" She asked, snapping the phone shut. Carefully, Holly J slid out of the bed, moving slowly towards the front door, trying to ignore the twinge in her side. The blue eyed, jet black haired boy that met her at the threshold was the last face she would expect. "Owen? Are you kidding me?" Holly J snapped dryly. "How do you even know where I live?!" She quipped sharply, opening the door more but leaning on the door frame so he couldn't step in.
Holly J/Adam Story~
“I know you’ve had some harder times than others, but high school flies by so fast. Try to enjoy it.”
Holly J lay awake, her eyes tracing patterns on the monotonous hospital ceiling. The dull ache in her side and the murkiness in her head from the painkillers kept her in a sluggish kind of awake state all night. The faint snores of people and quiet murmurs of night nurses were all she could hear. That was— until she heard quiet footsteps approaching her room. Sitting up, Holly J closed her laptop halfway, nervously whispering, “Hello?” There was a moment of silence before a slight thud and muffled curses. “Crap! Holly J? Is this your room?” A familiar voice asked. “Adam?” Holly J whispered back incredulously, surprised the boy had actually snuck out of his room to see her. “I didn’t think you were actually going to come!” She laughed quietly, beckoning him inside.
“You gave me an excuse to get out of my room. I haven’t left since I got here. Of course I’m going to take it!” He shut the door behind him and spun to face her. “I got to put my ninja skills to use too. Oh man my adrenaline is pumping right now. A nurse was coming out of the room at the end of the hall. That’s why I sort of ran into your door. I thought it was my evil nurse and I really don’t want her spitting in my food tomorrow.” Adam explained as he quietly pulled a chair up to Holly J’s bed. “So how are you doing?” He asked once he was comfortably sitting next to her.
Holly J’s eyebrows shot up as Adam excitedly babbled about his grand escape. He was a cheerful kid, it was easy to see why Fiona seemed to care for him as much as she did. “I’m doing just great,” Holly J said sarcastically, her hand moving to rest gently over her sore side. “No, in all actuality it hurts a lot but I’d rather have a sore side than no kidney at all,” She said truthfully, leaning her head back onto her pillow, her eyes trained on Adam’s face. “And how are you feeling?” She inquired, her eyes traveling to Adam’s wounded shoulder. Adam’s eyes dropped from hers, “I’m okay,” He smiled. Holly J hesitated, struggling with how to put the words together. “You know, Adam, I got held at gunpoint once. It was the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me. If you want to talk about it… I’ll understand,” She said sympathetically, reaching out awkwardly to pat Adam’s hand.
“Really?” Adam asked incredulously. “What happened?” Adam scooted to the edge of his seat and Holly J couldn’t help but laugh. “I used to work at The Dot. During one of my shifts a guy from my old school came in and refused to leave even though I said we were closed. He pulled a gun and kept me and my co-worker Spinner hostage. Spinner ended up getting shot in the shoulder.” Adam’s eyes widened. “He did?”
Holly J nodded grimly, running a hand through her hair. “I haven’t talked about that in forever,” She remarked, “It was a really scary thing to go through though.. So I understand if you’re a little freaked out,” Adam shook his head, fumbling with his fingers. “I’m just glad no one else got hurt.” He said quietly. “You’re a good friend,” Holly J smiled, taking his hand, “I can see why Fiona cares for you.” She added more quietly. “Promise me you’ll take care of her next year?” She asked softly after a moment of silence.
“Of course.” Adam gave Holly J’s hand a squeeze and added, “She and I weren’t exactly on great terms with each other at the beginning of the semester but ever since she and Eli sparked up a friendship we’ve been easing back into one. I’m glad because I really missed her. Even though we weren’t talking, I still cared about her. I think I’ll always care about her. She’s a great girl and she deserves to have some fun this summer. I know that Eli and I have already planned to include her in a lot of the adventures we go on. Don’t worry. We’ll look after her.” Adam said with a smile.
Holly J nodded slowly, “You know she’ll sucker you guys into going to a cupcakery or watching old french movies— it’s happened to me before,” She joked, grimacing as pain shot up and down her sides. Adam nodded glumly, “Yeah. I figured. There’s really no arguing with her,” He added with a laugh. Holly J shook her head, “I still can’t believe I’m really leaving.” Adam gave her a wry look, cracking a sympathetic smile. “I’m serious,” Holly J added, “I know you’ve had some harder times than others, but high school flies by so fast. Try to enjoy it.” She warned him, biting her lip as her mind wandered back to graduation and the school she would never return to.
“I’ll do my best. I don’t know if this is even possible, but I’m looking forward to graduation but dreading it at the same time. You’re right that I’ve had some…not so great high school memories, but I’ve also made a lot of great memories as well. I’ve met a lot of really great people too. People I can see myself being friends with for a really long time. I still have two years at Degrassi and I’m excited to see what happens.” Adam answered truthfully. Holly J was about to respond when there was a knock on her door. “You have to hide!” She whisper-shouted at Adam. “Where?” He panicked. “I don’t know! Wait! Go in the bathroom. There’s a shower in there that you can hide in until the coast is clear.” Adam stood up quickly, shoved the chair away from the bed, and made it into the bathroom just as Holly J told the nurse to enter.
“Come in!” Holly J called, trying to sound innocent. The nurse poked her head in suspiciously, “I heard voices.” She said sternly, her eyes traveling across the room. Holly J blushed, “Oh I must be… Uh. Talking in my sleep,” She fibbed, fiddling with her fingers. She heard Adam snort with muffled laughter from the shower and masked her smirk as the nurse kept her head in the room for only a moment more before reluctantly retreating. “Don’t laugh at me! I had to think fast on my feet!” Holly J scowled, punching Adam in the unharmed arm as he emerged from her shower. “Well Holly J.. I’m exhausted. But this has been nice.” He grinned, gently wrapping his free arm around her in a hug. “Thanks for keeping me company Adam. You’re a good guy,” Holly J smiled. Adam winked, patting Holly J on the knee one last time before slinking out of the room.
That was-- until she heard quiet footsteps approaching her room. She laughed quietly, beckoning him inside.
Crossfire- Brandon Flowers
After tonight I'm walking home listening to this song and thinking of all the people I care about. All the students of Degrassi, graduating and still suffering with me next year. To the seniors, you made it. It was a battle but you made it. On to the next. To those who were at prom, I'm glad things didn't turn out worse. We got lucky. We will learn from this and we will live each moment from now on like tomorrow isn't promised. It's now or never and the summer of the misfits is happening now.
Sleep well my friends. I love you all.
We give you the last DOLLY J Story~
"No matter what has happened to us in the past, there is still this light that sparks up in my chest when you’re around, and I know it’s there for you, too."
The Degrassi Community School sign beamed at Holly J from it’s perch atop the school. Holly J approached it slowly, her hands linked behind her back as she admired the school she could no longer call her own. The dusky air was painted pink by the setting sun and the campus was empty, except for one very solemn Holly J. She walked the sidewalk outside the stairs for what she knew might be one of the last times. It was hard to believe it was all over. The “high school experience”. Gone. It seemed as though four years had gone by in the blink of an eye- but at the same time a sense of growth came with graduating. Unshed tears threatened repeatedly as Holly J shared a private moment with the school she had come to call her home. She continued along her way, trailing her fingers against the pavement until she came to the recently dried cement, the caution tape now removed. Three sets of hand prints smiled up at her, hastily scribbled initials below them. A smile crept across Holly J’s face as she lowered herself onto her knees, leaning forward to press her own hands into her now dried prints. “Goodbye, Degrassi.” Holly J sighed, sitting back and wiping her cheeks free of a few escaped tears. “I thought I might find you here.” A voice interrupted her. Avery familiar voice. Holly J jumped to her feet while quickly trying to smooth her hair in one awkward moment. “Uhm.. What are you doing here?” She asked, trying to contain her surprise.
Declan stood before her, hands in pockets, looking put together as always. His hair was freshly trimmed and his trademark smile gave him the air of absolute charm. “What am I doing here as in Toronto or here as in Degrassi?” Holly J tilted her head and chuckled lightly, swallowing back shock. “Both.” The boy strolled toward her as he replied. “Toronto - getting Fiona settled into rehab and spending some long-needed quality twin time. Degrassi -” He stopped close to her and watched her face, considering. “Inquiring about a little note I read on the internet.” As Holly J looked down awkwardly, strands of strawberry fell in front of her face. Declan’s automatic response was to tuck it back behind her ear. She glanced up, and he withdrew his hand quickly. “You keep bringing me back here, Holly J.” The girl tossed a look back at the school. “To Degrassi?” Declan laughed. “To you.” His eyes were full of questions, fears, urges that he held back, but he did not look away. “You are always bringing me back to you. You’re a very powerful woman, Holly J Sinclair. Degrassi won’t be the same once you’ve left. I should know.” His smile was softer, quieter, just for her.
Holly J blinked, dropping her gaze briefly as his words sent her stomach plummeting. He had seen her letter. “What are they going to do with out me?” She joked, hiding her anxiety behind kidding words. Declan cleared his throat, “Fall apart?” He offered, only a drop of humor in his words. Holly J winced and fumbled with her fingers, her eyes still fixated on the ground. Pull it together, Sinclair. She told herself. Summoning all the courage she had, Holly J tore her eyes off the pavement, meeting Declan’s blue eyes. “You read the letter then?” She asked, struggling to keep her voice even. Declan nodded simply. Unsure what to say from there, Holly J reached for one of Declan’s hands instinctively, her fingers toying with his. “I meant every word, Declan.” She said softly, keeping her eyes trained on his. “I was just thinking about how far I’ve come at Degrassi and I would never have been able to do it without you.. So.. yeah.” She finished somewhat lamely, exhaling sharply. The tension in the air was practically tangible as she studied Declan’s face carefully for a reaction.
Declan huffed a little laugh and tilted his face up to the evening breeze. “What are you doing, Holly J?” He rubbed at the back of his neck absently as the girl before him tried to puzzle out what he meant. “When you ended things in the spring I told you I didn’t think I could let you in again.” Holly J bit her lip, nodding reluctantly. “And I said I couldn’t expect you to wait forever. Of course. I understand. I just wanted you to… I thought you should know, Declan. You deserve to know what you mean to me. I know I’ve put you through a lot and we haven’t exactly had clean breaks, but I… I’m sorry. I should have figured…” She trailed off when she caught sight of the curious humor in Declan’s eyes. “Are you finished?” He was biting back a laugh. She nodded again, confused. “Alright, then let me finish.” Declan flung his arms wide. “Here I am. In Toronto. I got on a plane right after my grad party and let me tell you, it’s tough getting a flight out of New York with hurricane precautions still in place. So what are you doing? How do you do this, draw me here like this?” Holly J opened her mouth to respond, thought better of it, and shrugged. “I said I didn’t think I could let you back in,” Declan soldiered on, his heart hammering faster and faster. “I was terrified back at the sound booth. I was terrified at the beach. I was terrified on the plane ride here. But I’m not now, Holly J. I’m not scared at all. You turned around and the second I saw you, I wasn’t afraid. No matter what has happened to us in the past, there is still this light that sparks up in my chest when you’re around, and I know it’s there for you, too. I see it in your eyes. That sounds really corny and stupid, and maybe I am corny and stupid, but it seems to keep working for me.” He stopped, suddenly aware of how quickly the words were tumbling out. Hardly his suave self. Turning to face Holly J full on, Declan cocked an eyebrow and queried, “So, can I kiss you now, or do you want me to pick you up and spin you around first?
“What do you think?” She quipped back lightly, trying to mask the elation spreading through her body like helium filling a balloon. She trailed her fingers down the lapel of Declan’s jacket, but before she had gotten more than an inch, Declan’s arms were around her waist, lifting her feet off the ground gently. With one large palm on the small of her back and the other supporting her, he spun her around like they had done so long ago in the hall. Holly J wrapped her arms around Declan’s neck loosely, knotting her fingers in his hair and pulling his face greedily to hers. Their lips met quickly and the two hungrily kissed away the sorrows that had plagued the two of them since their separation. Holly J pulled away, showering his lips with smaller kisses as he lowered her to the ground and cupped her face with his hands. Holly J finally pried her lips from his, keeping her face close to his. “I just can’t seem to say goodbye to you, Mr. Coyne.” She said with a small smile. “Thank you… for never giving up on me.” She murmured quietly, keeping her arms tightly twined around his neck. The thought of letting go of him then was more than she could bear. She had sent him away so many times, only to rejoice in him coming back. But this time was different— there was more urgency in the way they held each other than before. Seeming to sense her mind was elsewhere, Declan tilted her chin up so she was facing him once more, pressing his lips back to hers again.
“I love you, Holly J Sinclair,” Declan murmured between kisses. “I love you, too, Declan Coyne.” Holly J smiled against his lips, enjoying the patterns that his fingers traced down her back. “I’m going to stay in Toronto this summer,” he told her, pressing their foreheads together. “Dad will ship my things to Yale for me. I want to be here for you while you’re recovering. And don’t you dare say that it will be boring for me,” he asserted as she began to interrupt. “There is nowhere in the world I would rather be.” The girl in his arms felt tears welling up in spite of herself, but her smile beat them to the surface. “Well, I can’t really argue with extended Declan time.” He captured her in another kiss, lingering and warm and right right so very right. “Hey, what do you want to do? Anything you want. Your wish is my command.” Holly J laughed. “You really are corny.” The answering grin disappeared from sight as Declan lowered his mouth to the soft of her neck. “A walking, talking Hallmark card.” She tugged his face back up to hers for yet another kiss, never wanting to stop. “I’m supposed to lay low - big day tomorrow.” Kiss, kiss, kiss. “Movies at my house?” Kiss, kiss. “Anything you want,” Declan repeated. He unwound to walk beside Holly J but kept an arm wrapped securely around her shoulders. His Aston Martin waited in the parking lot. “Oh, Holly J?” He looked down at her - the beautiful, mesmerizing, incomparable love of his life tucked into his side. “Yeah?” “Happy graduation.” She popped up on her toes to give him a quick kiss and they strolled toward the car. Together.
OOC/ To Holly J
I can't believe that soon, my time RPing with you will end. When this group first started, we always had an issue of keeping Holly J's, which was a problem for me since she was my best friend and I never got to interact with her on here. And then you came along. Simply put, you were by far the best Holly J we had, and just the best Holly J RPer in general. You perfected HJ's wit, bossiness, lovableness, intelligence, and vulnerability. Every post, every comment, was pure Holly J Sinclair. I loved the few stories we did and the interactions we had on here. They always just made me smile. I love even more that we became friends OOC too because I just adore you incredibly much. I'm going to miss having you around on here, being the common sense for darling Fiona. I'm tearing up just writing this knowing that in less than an hour, the seniors will graduate on TV, and that in a few days from now, you'll be gone. I love you and I'm so glad we got to RP together. Forever the Holly Jeanette Sinclair to my Fiona Celestine Arabella Coyne.<3
