-I am putting this blog on hiatus for now. I have only time for one at the moment and that's going to be Salazar. @ghostlyhunter you can contact me there if you wish to talk. I will come back when I have time to and when that happens I will announce it here and on ghostlyhunter.
The problem with a ship the size of the Silent Mary was ... actually a few such problems, that all connected together. A big ship needed a big crew, who in turn needed a lot of feeding and supplies - and on the other hand, she also needed a lot of work keeping her maintained, and that tended to keep everyone busy.
It also tended to make Thera feel a bit guilty whenever she was on board or nearby; few of the men knew quite what to make of her, much less allow her to help with the work. Not that she could blame them, but it didn’t stop her finding something that she might be able to do.
“Lieutentant Lesaro?” Quietly, approaching one of the few who even properly knew her name, “I hear there’s a supply run happening soon - do you need an extra pair of hands?”
-It's been a bit and I have been over on Salazar more but I want to give Lesaro some more attention so this is a starter call. Starters will be about a paragraph long to start.
~Due to the number of days left till POTC5 I thought why not promote the Discord dedicated to POTC in a whole.
We are at 100+ now and that is a number I never even imagined we could reach. We have worked hard to make this a good community of people. There are very dedicated fans who use it. If you are a fan or just like pirates in general and Disney we welcome you in.
Lesaro is a quiet man and likes to keep to himself when walking around towns unless he is with Salazar or another member of the crew. Though he has his moments of fun and will talk to people if he has the urge to and even more so with the crew or members of the Navy.
They are indeed undead of some sort and I have a theory as to what they may be.
After looking at how the act. The manner of death and a few other things I have come to an interesting conclusion that may take some by surprise. They may very well be Draugr of some sort or a hybrid. There is a magical property to them that many ghosts lack.
Wikipedia has some good information that I have sorted through.
Draugr
“They are animated corpses — unlike ghosts they have a corporeal body with similar physical abilities as in life. Older literature makes clear distinctions between sea-draugar and land-draugar.”
"In more recent Scandinavian folklore, the draug (the modern spelling used in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden) is often identified with the spirits of mariners drowned at sea. The creature is said to possess a distinctly human form, with the exception that its head is composed entirely of seaweed. In other tellings, the draug is described as being a headless fisherman, dressed in oilskin and sailing in half a boat (the Norwegian municipality of Bø, Nordland has the half-boat in its coat-of-arms). This trait is common in the northernmost part of Norway, where life and culture was based on fishing more than anywhere else. The reason for this may be that the fishermen often drowned in great numbers, and the stories of restless dead coming in from sea were more common up north than anywhere else in the country."
"Any mean, nasty, or greedy person can become a draugr. "
“most medieval Icelandic ghosts are evil or marginal people. If not dissatisfied or evil, they are unpopular”. This is the prime way that draugar share characteristics with ghosts, since any person can become a ghost."
"Draugar also brought disease to a village and could create temporary darkness in daylight hours"
"Some draugar are immune to weapons, and only a hero has the strength and courage needed to stand up to so formidable an opponent. In legends the hero would often have to wrestle the draugr back to his grave, thereby defeating him, since weapons would do no good."
"The draugar were said to be either hel-blár ("death-blue") or, conversely, nár-fölr ("corpse-pale"). The "death-blue" color was not actually grey but was a dark blue or maroon hue that covered the entire body"
“Draugar are noted for having numerous magical abilities (referred to as trollskap) resembling those of living witches and wizards such as shape-shifting, controlling the weather and seeing into the future.”
What really got my attention though was this and it does share similarities with some ghosts.
“The motivation of the actions of a draugr was primarily jealousy and greed. The greed of a draugr causes it to viciously attack any would-be grave robbers, but the draugr also expresses an innate jealousy of the living, stemming from a longing for the things of the life it once had.”
These creatures are of Norse mythology and Norway is in that group of places that have that. ““dreygur and Danish, Swedish and Norwegian”
We all know Salazar is angry at Jack for what happened.
Both Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg are Norwegian.
I would not have put all this here if I thought it made no sense at all.
