Se The Man From U.N.C.L.E. tivesse algum(ns) episódios no século XXI, teríamos o benefício de ver pérolas como cenas com Napoleon e Illya discutindo "memes russos", como este:

... em que o texto diz "Você pode ter me confundido com um pão, mas eu sou um gato!!! Por favor não me coma!!!"

E o agente americano nunca pararia de rir mentalmente com 1) a existência de memes russos; 2) o senso de humor dos compatriotas de Illya; 3) a semelhança inegável entre Illya e o "pão" da foto.

E as piadas comparando o pobre loirinho com gatos teriam começado ainda mais cedo do que imaginamos.

Bônus: outro meme, com a legenda "tem pão quente na panela elétrica".

Headcanon: (Soviet) Russian Memes

A Modern! AU in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. would spoil us with scenes like Napoleon and Illya discussing Russian memes, sort of like this one...

... which says "You may have mistook me by a bread, but I'm a cat!!! Please don't eat me!!!"

And good old Mr. Solo would never stop being amused at 1) the existence of (Soviet?) Russian memes; 2) the Russians' sense of humor 3) the uncanny resemblance between Illya and the "bread" in the picture.

And the jokes comparing the patient Mr. Kuryakin to a cat would begin sooner than we imagine.

Bonus: another cute meme, with the caption: "bread in the bread maker".

@theniftycat same honestly!! i found that out via this website, which provides far more information on the mcdaniel ace paperbacks than i’d ever thought i needed or wanted. it does provide a lot of cool context into early muncle (& sf/f) fandom & how a lot of the semi-canonical thrush details came about which was apparently by rping it.

I blocked them ages ago bc honestly, they have a mighty perception filter. I haven’t read the thread bc I know they are not someone I’d like to hear from, but I wonder, was there a mention of The Girl from U.N.C.L.E.? Because, you know, a show about a female agent. In development since 1,5 years into the main show. More than likely inspired by The Avengers, but still the first one to have an actual main female character. They wouldn’t accept it as progressive, probably.

Thanks for this message, it’s actually quite the relief to know I’m not the only one to have my frustrations with them. “A mighty perception filter” is a pretty good way of putting how that argument felt. :\

I can’t really speak about The Girl from UNCLE myself, since I’ve only seen a couple of episodes, but most of the reviews I’ve read seem to agree that it was a basically good premise which didn’t come together well in practice. One of the biggest problems I’ve seen people raise is that apparently the writers mostly chickened out of letting April fight and win her own battles -- according to the review at The Fans from UNCLE site, “We rarely saw her get herself out of a situation by her own wits, overcome a bad guy in hand-to-hand combat, or actually act like she knew how to use a gun.” If that’s accurate it’s a real crying shame, considering that one of the (many) things I loved about The Man from UNCLE is that they worked in so many great female characters and female villains -- including a number of different episodes where we see women handling guns with competence or beating men in hand-to-hand combat (I’ve actually got several half-drafted posts that very subject in the works right now). But it sounds like when the spin-off happened, that spirit didn’t carry over to where it was really needed.

So overall, The Girl from UNCLE definitely still get points for making April a full professional spy and the lead character of her own series, but my understanding is that the finished show mostly fell a long way short of what The Avengers managed when it came to how they portrayed April in action. Interesting contrast there, come to think of it -- one (The Avengers) with a slightly dodgy premise, but a remarkably good record for actually portraying its female characters as competent in practice, and the other (The Girl from UNCLE) with a much more solid premise, but a poorer record in action. So it goes with 60′s TV, I guess.

Probably so. I’m not too worried though. I’ve perused the tag a bit and from what I’ve seen the other DS Anon (Dark Shadows that is) that we had to deal with was much much worse. That was swear-word filled vitriol hurled at a bunch of us because we dared to think that Barnabas “Imma Brainwash This Waitress Into Thinking She’s My Dead Girlfriend” Collins was less than a stellar guy.

Now that I’ve said that though, I’m now picturing a crossover between the two DS’s. I have a feeling Fraser and co. would put a stop to Collinsport’s vampire problem real quick.
