Darachmoon, could Theo be the last, unaccounted for Hale? There was one still left unaccounted for, and Derek said not all of them are Werewolves! No living Hale (sans Malia, who wouldn't have ever met him) has *ever* seen Theo. And Stiles knew who Derek and Theo were as kids, could they have been seen together? Theo seems to resent not being a REAL werewolf a LOT. Like he felt he was born to be one. Hales have put their own up for adoption before. And we were said to be seeing the Hales again.

I know we did speculate about this when the character of Theo was first announced. And yes, I guess it’s possible. I’m certainly open to it, although I must admit I’m more partial to Liam as a lost Hale. Did you see the cast photo with Ian Bohen and Sprayberry next to each other? It crossed my dash but I was distracted before I could reblog, so I lost it. But the likeness was striking. Same nose, same eye color, just basically a lot of resemblance going on. But i’m getting off topic, sorry. 

Theo is, as you point out, obsessed with being a real werewolf, of gaining power and getting his own pack. Perhaps as a result of losing one. Perhaps as you suggest he was human in a pack of werewolves, always feeling left out and less, much like the squibs in Harry Potter. That could definitely account for some of his intense drive. 

So what do we know about Theo?

He was in school with Scott and Stiles back in the 4th grade. Scott and Theo had “bonded” over asthma. 

Stiles is certain this isn’t the same Theo. He even finds “proof” in that his dad’s signature on two different forms don’t match up. Theo later punishes is parents for this taking a hammer to his “dad’s” fingers, berating him for not practicing enough. So clearly all is not a okay in the land of the Raekens. I’m actually kind of sad that hasn’t been addressed again. 

So is Theo the missing Hale, perhaps a perfectly human one, that was led astray by the doctors in his pursuit of being like the rest of the family? Maybe. But does that mean that the sister wasn’t his sister, but the real Theo’s sister? And if so, what happened to him? Is he still living in San Diego, blissfully unaware that someone has stolen his identity? 

If he’s the missing Hale from the fire, then he wasn’t adopted. he had to be in the house in that case to make up for the discrepancy between the number Derek said and the number in the report. 

His family doesn’t add up. Most of his backstory is all bogus, like how he was bitten - never happened, the story doesn’t add up at all. And Stiles doesn’t think he’s Theo. But did Stiles sense that this was a fake Theo? Or was his gut feeling simply telling him that Theo wasn’t right? That there was something off about him, in the same way that he always had tingly bad vibes about Matt? He didn’t know what it was, just that he was bad news. So maybe we shouldn’t take that so literal? Maybe Theo is Theo, but now a threat, and his parents are blissfully unaware of what he’s up to, and he hired some other schmucks to make his story believable? 

I don’t know. And I’m just writing myself around in circles here, so I’m going to quit before I get too dizzy :) also it’s bedtime :)

Just a comment about your blue eyes-experiments teory: Theo, a werecoyote chimera, has yellow eyes, so maybe blue is not the default for them. I think blue has more to do with a power-up. Maybe all weres have the ability to absorb power with their claws, but not enough that they can absorb a significant amount without killing, and Belasko had this capacity bettered by the DD. Or maybe, if your idea is the right one, Theo's eyes are another signal he is a failure.

Okay, so Theo first. He has yellow eyes, that is true. He even pointed it out to Stiles as a sign that he’s not killed anyone innocent, so he clearly knows about that as well. Which does indicate that it’s a common “truth” among werewolves. That doesn’t mean it’s true, though. But it does mean it’s a common belief. 

If my theory is correct, which I doubt by the way. It’s a bit too complicated and far-fetched, but it was a fun exercise so I ran with it. But then again I’ve run with stranger ideas and have them come true, so yeah :) But if it’s true, meaning that blue eyes = “supernatural” chimera and by that I meant a supernatural creature born with two sets of DNA much like we know humans can do. Or a supernatural born with both human DNA and supernatural DNA. We know for instance that some don’t show signs of shifting etc until they reach puberty, like Derek. Lydia’s supernatual “dna” needed to be activated by Peter’s bite. 

So if blue eyes, or blue glowy limbs of any kind = supernatural chimera, meaning someone already supernatural then experimented on, then Theo doens’t necessarily fit that bill. From what we know he was a human boy with asthma who didn’t become a genetic chimera until the dread doctors transplanted his human sister’s heart. If so Theo had two sets of human DNA to begin with before being “altered” by the doctors. If so, he’s an enitrely fabricated supernatural, and thus the blue eyes wouldn’t appear in him. 

If we disregard my out there theory and just look at what the common belief is, namely that killing an innocent = blue eyes, then the fact that Theo has yellow eyes could be an indicator that he’s “not right” - in the same way that mountain ash doesn’t hold him in. The normal supernatural rules doesn’t apply to him.

The idea that all supernaturals can absorb power is pretty accurate I think. If a beta kills an alpha it does absorb its powers. The same if an alpha kills his betas. That usually involves claws, or fangs. Derek absorbed so much of Cora’s pain, it sucked out his alpha spark in the process. That didn’t involve claws, but it’s sort of the same concept anyway. So yes, that is entirely possible :)

TW 5x11: Why the Mountain Ash?

Another one of my favorite topics - mountain ash. And specifically how I think Stiles knows how to break it telepathically - it comes down to belief. He believes he can and he does. I’ve written about this before - this post should cover most of my previous ramblings.

The short story is - Stiles broke it without touching it in season 2

And I think it was Stiles who broke the line, and not Tracy, in 5a.

Basically the line breaks the exact same way as it did when Stiles broke it in s2. Also, chimeras doesn’t break the line when they cross it - they simply step right over it. Theo has demonstrated this twice now.

(also, I do wonder hoq Liam managed to cross it in 5x10 to get to Scott in the library. Either Theo let him in or he can cross it too, giving us a clue that he’s maybe not entirely supernatural either. (I fell in a hole)). 

5x10 - not even a spec of ash moves when he steps over it.

So what was the point of the mountain ash line in 5x11? We have a whole sequence dedicated to just this point. Not a word is exchanged before we cut to another scene. 

First off, Scott is there. Scott knew Theo could cross it, so he wouldn’t bother to put it up. It won’t stop Theo or protect Stiles. So we can assume that Stiles have been told that Theo will not be stopped by mountain ash. 

So either Scott forgot to tell Stiles, or he told him but Stiles put it up anyway. Judging by his non-shocked reaction it doesn’t surprise him when Theo steps over it. We know that Deaton assumed after Tracy seemingly broke it, that chimeras can’t be stopped by mountain ash, but the difference between the scene with Tracy and the ones with Theo, is that the line doesn’t break when Theo steps over.

So my guess is Stiles wanted to see it himself, and perhaps specifically compare it to the incident with Tracy. He does deliberately glance at the line. They spend precious seconds on this. They zoom in on Theo’s shoes, not once, not twice - by three times. And we all know the thing about threes, right?

Theo stops by the line, glances down. Then the angle shifts to Stiles - his eyes are on it as well. 

Then The steps over, we switch to Stiles who glances down again to confirm what happens. Again not a spec of ash out of place. 

We know Jeff doesn’t include scenes unless it serves a purpose.

And now that I believe Stiles knows with more certainty that he can break the line, I’m sure he can do the opposite as well. In fact he has - back in 2x08 when he closed the gap of several meters with just a handful of ash. I think this will prove useful and important later.

TW 5x10: Theo’s incredibly busy timeline - is someone helping?

I felt the need to look closer at the timeline for 5x10 as a result of this conversation. It had already struck me that Theo had a very busy episode with lots of stuff he was doing, both on screen and behind the scenes, and the way the episode was edited Theo is either Barry Allen’s long lost cousin, knows how to disapparte or is surfing the telluric currents like a pro (and according to him he’s a bad skater). I realize the episode took place in the span of a day, but given the editing and sequence of events plus the other characters movement as well, the timeline is questionable at best.

I realize suspenseful editing might be the answer to my confusion. It’s not unheard of to edit scenes together in a way to build the thrill. Or is there a hidden clue here? Did Theo have help? And if so, by whom?

Perhaps some of you can help me out and make sense of it?

Nighttime

The episode starts with Liam, Scott and Theo at Deaton’s where Scott is refusing to give Hayden the bite to try and save her. 

Approximately at the same time Stiles’ jeep breaks down, he then throws the wrench.

The sheriff’s station gets the reports about a loping/running creature that they trace to the school. 

Meanwhile Melissa has arrived at Deaton’s to help treat Hayden. Liam, Scott and Theo are all there.

Morning

We cut to early morning when the sheriff is in his office, pulling open the blinds and then finding the envelop from Melissa with Stiles’ keycard. We can assume he then left to either look for Stiles and/or go back to the crime scene at the school. 

We then cut to Scott and Theo talking at Deaton’s. Theo telling Scott he needs his pack and offers to go talk to them. Scott accepts and thanks him. 

Theo leaves. This is when he starts all of his manipulative tasks of the day.

Parrish and Lydia is talking in the jail cell.

Scott falls asleep and Liam creeps on him with angry yellow beta eyes. 

The jeep is towed, Malia picks up Stiles. 

Parrish and Lydia talk some more, Lydia has the epiphany about The Wild Hunt and Lydia leaves for the library. 

Back at Deaton’s Hayden is asking for her sister. Scott offers to go find her. 

Hayden: My sister... Valerie. She's a deputy.  Scott: I think I might know where she is. Theo just texted me about the high school. He said there's cops everywhere. Might be another Chimera.

Scott leaves for the school since Theo has texted him about cops being there. This would indicate that Theo is or has been at the school - this is possibly where he encountered the sheriff and kidnapped/hurt him.

Stiles and Malia arrive at the sheriff’s station. Malia asks about Donovan. Stiles heads inside the station. 

Parrish is having a feverish dream about the nemeton.

A deputy informs Stiles that the sheriff left the scene half an hour ago and was heading back to the station. Stiles waits in his office. Meaning that Theo must have kidnapped the sheriff within the last 30 minutes, or possibly is doing it at this very moment.

Deputy: Sheriff left half an hour ago. He said he was on his way back.

Lydia has arrived at the library and is reading about the hunt. Has a banshee moment and is knocked out by Theo. 

So did Theo hurt the sheriff at school, then move him to where Stiles found him and then go back for Lydia only to move her as well? That would take some time. And at the time he knocked out Lydia Scott is already on his way to school. We know there is a 30 minute window before Stiles arrived at the sheriff station that his dad could’ve been taken. And Lydia had already left the station when Stiles arrived. Given that time frame it doesn’t make sense for Theo to leave the school. 

So who’s helping him? Or has he just stashed both the sheriff and lydia in his car to drop them off later? Possibly. 

But we then cut directly to Malia in the coyote den. Theo tiptoes in and shifts back to human. Offers to teach Malia. 

Melissa decides to move Hayden to the hospital. 

Theo going to the preserve could of course have have happened hours later. Since Malia had just dropped off Stiles at the sheriff’s station she would need time to get out to the preserve as well.  

What is so confusing though is that Scott left Deaton’s office even before Stiles arrived at the station. How long can it possibly take Scott to get from the vet’s to the school? 

Scott has now arrived at school and gets a text from Lydia’s phone telling him to go to the library. Lydia is knocked out, she’s not sending any texts. And if we’re to believe that the things we see happens in chronological order then Theo is still in the woods. 

It’s implied that Theo sent the text to trap Scott in the library. He’s also had to prep the mountain ash around the entire room. Since Scott will soon find the phone in the library, the logical thing to assume is that Theo is lurking in there already, making sure the ash is in place. But we just saw him in the preserve? what gives?

Next we see Parrish break out of his cell. Stiles follows him. 

Then we cut to this. Theo’s still in the woods, tossing a key into the bushes. We cut to a lock on a door in what looks like the hospital. 

This will prove to be the tenth chimera, Noah, possibly trapped to occupy Malia later so she can’t help Scott either. Theo has already done this - possibly he found the chimera also at school? 

So unless I’ve grossly misinterpreted something Theo has now kidnapped the sheriff, Lydia and captured and locked in a chimera. Lydia and the sheriff can technically still be in his car, but at some point he will need to move them to the DD lab and the other place respectively. 

The text from Lydia’s phone could’ve been sent from anywhere. BUT we know that her phone is in the library. If the editing is to be believed Scott got the text while Theo is still in the preserve. And it doesn’t take Scott all that long to get from the hallway and to the library. Theo needs to either travel the currents or disapparate to manage that. Or it’s TV magic. 

So, perhaps Theo didn’t send the text. Possibly he knows how to make it look like the text came from Lydia’s phone while actually sending it from his own. Or he has a skilled helper... Or someone else sent it for him.. 

We then get the scene where Scott finds the phone, and would you look at that. There’s Theo again, making a line of mountain ash. 

The rest of the timeline for Theo is less confusing. We next see him tracking down Stiles, making him chose between helping Scott and saving his dad. After that he returns to find that Liam didn’t kill Scott, so he does it himself. And then he makes himself some zombie chimeras. 

All in a days work. Very productive guy. 

So Is this just confusing editing, or a hint that Theo isn’t operating on his own? I doubt the doctors are helping him. They don’t strike me as the helpful types. Theo did say he was the first success, he didn’t say he was the only one. So is there someone else helping him out? 

I’m totally open to me misreading the whole timeline here, and if so please enlighten me. But I find the idea of someone helping him in the shadows oddly appealing. 

And am I totally crazy for wanting it to be Danny? Danny who has a medical history, who knows about the supernatural, who I’m sure knew about it from the beginning and seems to have been acting as a sort of watcher from the start, and who was possibly also involved in the deadpool stuff behind the scenes. That operation was just too sophisticated to have been run by a mentally unstable Eichen House patient and a orderly who’s tech skills ended with cassettes/tapes. 

Danny who the alpha pack thought was important enough to keep watch on. Who the oni was interested in but left alone, who knows about the telluric currents, and who’s never been confirmed left Beacon Hills or the school. 

Or Theo has a twin/clone. Wouldn’t that be a kicker? 

Or it’s just another example of anachronism - error in time placement - the show is littered with these little deliberate time conundrums (and the definition was even shown to us in 3x05), so this is hardly the first time.

What I want to know is how Theo managed to talk to all these people in that time frame. He must have run all over town like Speedy Gonzalez ...

I’m pretty sure he knows how to travel via the telluric currents. that’s the only way I can think of.

I’m seriously wondering if he WAS the alpha of the twins. at first I figured nah, because they became alphas, but then again so did derek after killing peter. bringing him back didn’t make him an alpha. so theo is revived somehow, possibly because of the doctors, and he strikes a deal with them to get a new pack. following the doctors or his former betas, he discovers the beacon hills pack.

he certainly fits the profile and every other former alpha pack has been delved into but the twins’. it would also explain why the hell he’s alive to tell the tale of their pack to begin with.

Hi okay so I just stayed up until 3:30 reading your TW meta, (especially the Stiles stuff holy wow I love him and did not even realize half the stuff you pointed out) but I was looking at the gif of Stiles swiping his keycard at the library before Donovan's death and you said he swiped the side, but to me it just looked like he fumbled with it for a bit then swiped it diagonally across the front (top left to bottom right). I could be wrong, but I've done that a lot when swiping cards quickly hah

As for the key card you might be right. The main part I think we should take away from that scene and the emphasis on the key cards is that two cards were swiped that night - Stiles’ and Theo’s. We get deliberate shots of these two cards being swiped, and yes the difference is that Stiles does it hurriedly which probably explains why we don’t get a good clear image of it. 

The other card was swiped confidently and unhurried. 

So the second one is Theo’s card, but I still think it’s Donovan swiping it. The sleeve does look like it belongs to the hoodie he’s wearing. Theo probably gave it to him and he’s either a) already in the library or b) entered with Donovan. I don’t for a second believe his story about entering the library after the scaffolding came down like he claims. Because how could he do that when Donovan already had used his card to get in? And Donovan isn’t a student at the school, and even if he’d stolen a card the system would have logged it. 

From 5x08 we know that his card was used around the time of the prank call

Deputy Clark: The system logged two names right around the time of the 9-1-1 call. 

Sheriff: What names? 

Deputy Clark: Theo Raeken… And your son, Stiles.

In 5x07 we got this conversation. 

Theo: I know what happened to Donovan. I know everything… Stiles: You don’t know anything.Theo: I was there. I was at the library. Malia found the book. She was texting us to see where you were. She said she left you at the library. I told her I was close. When I got there, I heard the scaffolding come down. Stiles: You saw him? Theo: Just the body.

Unless someone tampered with the key card system, which I doubt, then it’s pretty obvious Theo is lying. Dead guys can’t walk out to hand back cards after all. Ergo Theo was already there or arrived with Donovan…. We do have the odd sequence of Stiles seeing someone walk up the stairs and hear footsteps above and is seconds later attacked by Donovan. That could’ve been Theo walking up… 

Theo then later even admits to having seen Donovan’s wendigo teeth. 

Theo: You know, I saw his teeth. Donovan. He was a, uh… Wendigo, wasn’t he?

But if Theo came in when or right after the scaffolding came down, he couldn’t have seen Donovan’s Wendigo teeth. Because they were perfectly human looking when he died. 

Stiles wouldn’t have made the call to 911 if Donovan had fangs or double sets of pointy teeth. The fact that Donovan looked human, was why he did call it in. 

In a previous post a while back I made a point that I was certain the cards would be important. Why else show us so many closeups of them. We have the two cards being swiped, we have Donovan holding what we now pretty much have confirmed is Theo’s card 

And then later we are reminded yet again of the library doors locking and that you need a card to get in when Stiles stops to find a book to hold the door open so the police can get in. 

He then hides out in his car, watches as the deputy arrives and goes into the school. It’s a big school so we have to assume that it takes a while for him to search through it. In the episode it seems like just a minute or two, but I’m guessing more like 15-30 minutes passed, and we see Stiles be really antsy in the car. 

When the cop calls it in as a prank call, Stiles rushes back and runs into the library. Like I mentioned in this previous post as well it looks to me as if he just barges in without swiping his card. 

We get a full body shot of him just after he entered and he’s not holding a card

My theory was that this was Stiles, mindlessly opening the doors with his spark, his telekinesis. He’s locked and unlocked doors before in the scene with Malia at the hospital in 4x10, so this is nothing new. 

And now with what the deputy said about the key cards I think it strengthens my theory. 

Deputy Clark: The system logged two names right around the time of the 9-1-1 call. 

Sheriff: What names? 

Deputy Clark: Theo Raeken… And your son, Stiles.

The system logged two names around the time of the 911 call. It’s not explicitly said but it’s reasonable to assume that means the cards were used before the call.  But if Stiles’ card had been used again after the deputy had done the sweep I am positive Hayden’s sister is smart enough to find that highly suspicious and would mention it. Those swipes are surely time stamped.  

So in conclusion this episode gave me even more proof that Theo lied about the events of that night and also that Stiles opened the library door the second time using his somethingness and not his card.
