An Unexpected Order Sirius Black!Sister reader PART 9
MASTERLIST:
"Don't be ridiculous." I turn around and face my older brother, frowning.
"Why is it ridiculous? It may be a possibility, I have my theories." Sirius shrugged, moving further into the room, closing in on Remus and I. "Enlighten us." Remus rolled his eyes at him.
"Hec hem." Sirius cleared his throat dramatically, preparing himself to present his ridiculous ideas about Regulus.
"Firstly, have you ever been let into Regulus' room? Or every time you try, does Kreacher frantically try and stop you from entering his room?" Sirius raises an eyebrow.
----- flashback -----
I crept upstairs to Regulus' room the night after Kreacher had come home in tears, announcing the death of Regulus to us all. I reached out for the door handle, it was locked. I pulled my wand out and Kreacher apparated out of nowhere.
"Miss Black cannot go in there!" The elf exclaimed in a panic. "Why? I only wanted to see if I could feel his spirit, I miss him." I sigh.
"No! Miss Black mustn't go in!"
----------------------------------------
"Thinking about it, you may be onto something, only with that though. Kreacher once prevented me from entering his room, and then explained his death to me..." I trail the sentence off ever so slightly.
"What explanation did you get?" Sirius looked up from the floor in interest.
"That he decided to betray the Death-Eaters, he took this locket that belonged to Vold- Voldemort and destroyed it, but he had to drink this potion which drove him to insane thirst, he tried to drink out of the lake but got killed by the inferi that inhabited the lake."
"You mean Regulus wasn't actually bad?" Sirius sat down next to Remus and I. "I don't think he was."
"Is. Theory number two, you ever noticed food disappear? Or Kreacher making extra food but the bits no one eats magically disappear? Kreacher sneaking out of Reg's room with empty plates? Kreacher doesn't eat, not that anyway, he eats house-elfy food. What is he doing with the plates?"
"Sirius, I'm sure Regulus isn't hiding in his room, being supplied with things by Kreacher. I've lived in this house for years, I've never moved away from this house. I would know if my dead brother was hiding himself in my house." I say, beginning to debate the theories of Sirius in my mind.
"Yeah, true, but I'm sure Regulus is intelligent enough to charm everything so it's like he doesn't exist, like he's dead. Maybe he did go as far as destroying that locket but instead of dying, he faked his death so that Voldemort wouldn't come after him. Maybe he thought that faking his own death would protect you from Mum, or would help you finding a way to escape."
"Well, it didn't, did it? Stuff got worse when he died, until Mum's death. She blamed me for it for years and years, she was somewhat kinder in her final few months alive, but for the majority, it was torture, the cruciatus. It was my fault that he died, I wasn't there to protect him, swap my life for his." I glance back at the family tree.
"Y/N." Remus stroked my hair, he pressed a kiss to the crook of my neck. "Kreacher!" Sirius shouted, the elf popped into the room.
"Master Black?" The elf said resentfully. "What happened to Regulus?" Sirius demands, the elf stammers, trying to answer.
"Master Regulus is dead, has been for years." Tears sprung to the eyes of Kreacher. "Nonsense, let's go." Sirius grabbed my arm and pulled me up from between the legs of Remus.
"Sirius, you are an absolute twat, you know that? This is far too rash-" I start, getting cut off by my brother.
"Shut it Y/N, we need to find out as to whether or not Regulus really died seventeen years ago." Sirius dragged me into the hallway and towards the stairs. We paused a moment to allow space for breathing before we continued our trip, climbing up the stairs two at a time, reaching the top a lot sooner than we anticipated. We made it to the door of Regulus' room and I slowed down, pulling on Sirius' arm to stop him going any further. "What is it? Are you not dying to see as to whether or not we've been lied to for years?" Sirius groaned, the annoyance evident in his tone.
"What if he is in there? How do we talk to him? It's been seventeen years, I-." I hyperventilate, Sirius grabs my shoulders, pulling me into a hug. "Y/N, it's fine, it'll be fine. If he is really in there, then we'll sit down and talk to him, it's still Regulus. He may have changed, but he will still be Regulus. I promise you now that if anything bad happens, I'll get you straight out of there, I won't let him or anyone else hurt you."
"I love you." I whisper, a tear sliding down my face. "I love you too, now, let's go see if Reggie has been lying to us." Sirius squeezed me into a tighter hug briefly, before we found ourselves drawing out our wands, pointing them at the door.
"No! Master and Mistress Black mustn't enter Master Regulus' room!" Kreacher apparated in front of us. "Why's that?" I ask, my left eyebrow cocked up in curiosity. "Because Master Regulus doesn't want visitors!" The elf gasped. "Bad Kreacher, naughty Kreacher. Kreacher betrayed Master Regulus." He banged his head against the wall as hard as he could, continuing to do so as he curse himself. "Bad Kreacher, naughty Kreacher."
"Kreacher, stop." I drop down onto my knees, yanking the house-elf away from the wall and into my arms. "Kreacher, you haven't been bad, and you know that Regulus wouldn't do anything to hurt you, he's kind, you know this. Please don't punish yourself." I hold the crying elf in my arms, he nods. "Thank you, Mistress." He moves back and wipes a tear onto his wrinkled arm.
I smile at the elf and he apparated away. "You're too nice to that thing." Sirius comments. "Sirius, you treated the poor guy like shit when you were younger, you still do now and you wonder why he's so afraid of you but pretends he isn't. I know he speaks to you like he resents you, because of his loyalty to mother and Regulus and you broke both of their hearts - he opened up to me eventually because I started being nice to him, especially after Regulus' death. You have to treat him as an equal. You say you don't want to be like our family, horrible people, but you treat Kreacher like you're superior to him, he flinches when you shout, or when you lift your arm because you look exactly like dad when he did the same things. You need to be nice to Kreacher, he's been through a lot." I snap at my older brother.
"I- yeah, you're right. I'm sorry." Sirius looks down in shame. "I don't think it's me that you should be apologising too, Sirius." I roll my eyes. "You're right, I'll apologise to Kreacher later."
I smile, content at Sirius' promise. "Ready?" I ask, raising my wand again, Sirius grins and does the same.
"Bombarda!" We both yell at the same, the door crumbled in on itself, revealing the perfectly preserved room of my younger brother. I stepped over the debris of the door and glanced around the room, it was exactly as I remembered it being.
Dark, mysterious, the bed still made perfectly and books being in organised groups on his shelf. I run my finger over the books, there was no dust on them as you'd have expected after seventeen years of the room being supposedly unoccupied.
"Y/n!" Sirius shouted, I turned around and he was holding a used plate, slightly covered in cheese sauce, it looked fresh, well, fresh enough. We did have pasta in cheese sauce for dinner last night, Sirius' theory has a chance at being right.
"Why didn't Kreacher want us coming in here?" I ask, confused as to why the house-elf was so determined to keep us out of the youngest Black's room.
"Maybe because he was trying to preserve a secret." A new voice filled the air, Sirius and I shot around, the clicks our necks made filled the silence following the voice. I let out a gasp of shock.
A tall figure stood in the middle of the room, his face was framed by shortish, wavy and dark hair. Cold, grey eyes which I recognised straight away met ours.
"You, I, you." I stammer, not knowing what to say as I stood before my supposedly dead baby brother. "Regulus." I flung myself forward, pulling the slim boy, man, into a hug. Tears began to rapidly pour out of my eyes, I hugged him as tight as I possibly could, before pulling back and slapping him around the cheek.
"You absolute asshole! I've spent the last seventeen years believing you were dead, I spent years being blamed and tortured by mum for it not being me that died, and you've spent those years walled up in here, in isolation from the rest of the world. The whole time you were right under my nose and I had no idea." I yell angrily, more and more tears tumbled down my face.
Regulus' facial expression remained straight, eyes slightly sunk down in shame. "You deserved that, mate." Sirius put his hand out for Regulus, he took it and the two embraced immediately. "I know." The younger of the two brothers grinned.
"I'm sorry." Both of the boys said at once, smiling at each other as they realised that they spoke in sync with one another.
"Regulus, I am so so sorry for the way I treated you when we were younger, I was jealous of the fact that you were that perfect child mum and dad loved, I was getting tortured for as little as breathing near mum whereas you got praised for even eating your toast when you were literally thirteen. I am so sorry for abandoning you, leaving you alone with mum and dad, I know you had Y/N, but I should have taken you both with me rather than being so selfish. I love you Regulus, and I'm sorry that I've been such an arse to you." Sirius began to cry, Regulus pulled Sirius back into a hug.
"Siri, I forgive you, and I'm sorry too, I'm sorry for acting the way I did. I was scared that if I put a single toe out of line and followed your and Y/N's footsteps that I'd get tortured as well, I was genuinely terrified and so I followed the strict rules that they set, which me being insanely selfish, I hated every minute of being the so-called perfect child and I'm so sorry that I was so cold towards you both, and for not intervening like I should have. I love you too Sirius." Regulus had tears streaming down his face too.
I smile, watching my brothers make up was perfect, they used to love each other so much and then the house divide ruined that, with Sirius being cast to one side, no longer being the heir of the house of Black.
The boys both turned to me and Regulus approached me, slightly cautious.
"Y/N," He said, hesitating when he got closer to me. "I am so so sorry for treating you poorly as well, I'm so sorry that my faking death led to more abuse, I wanted to protect you but I couldn't because I'm selfish and a coward. I'm also sorry for hiding in your house for seventeen years and not revealing myself sooner. Kreacher has come to me each year on the anniversary of my supposed death telling me how upset you are, how you've spent each year crying by my place on the family tree, and it hurt so badly to not be able to come and comfort you, but I was scared that revealing myself would cause further problems, especially any problems that may occur if the Death-Eaters found out that I'm still alive." Regulus explains, the tears flow freely once again out of both of our eyes,
"I love you so much Reg." I wrap my arms around the tall man and his arms wrap around me. "I forgive you, I know now you did it for your safety and you know that's all I've ever cared about, the safety of you and Sirius."
"Thank you, and, I love you too Y/N." Regulus smiles and presses a kiss to my forehead.
"I still can't believe you're alive." I murmur. "I know, and I'm sorry."
"Shh, let's just shh." Sirius walks over and wraps the both of us in his arms, recreating the hug that the three of us used to do all the time when we were children.
We stood like that for ages, until the snap of a camera made the three of us come back to real senses again.
"Aw, what a cute photo."
"Remus!"
