First Craft Show!
While browsing for a more local job in late October I found a listing looking for vendors for a local craft show! The fee was low and it was to raise money for the animal shelter, and I wanted to try and see if craft shows were for me.
Since that day I have been making Christmas items non-stop! My hand needs a good rest.
Plus I made 12 scarves which caught many eyes. My coworker friend pictured here helped me by making some scarves and providing our table mascot (Sock monkey) and of course driving all the way to help me the day of the event.
It was a very low-key event with only about 20 tables set up but I think it was a good experience. The event host said they were expecting more traffic, and a lot of vendors left disappointed with low sales. While I didn't sell many items, I made enough to cover my costs and had a little extra (which I ended up spending at a different vendor who made amazing polymer clay jewelry).
Overall I think it was a great experience. Next time I'd love to be more prepared (nearly two months just isn't enough!) and hopefully next time there will be more visitors. I'm pretty certain this is something I could get into more seriously, but I will take it one step at a time.
Little skunk friend! I only stabbed myself about 2 dozen times but I had fun felting!
Hello friends!
I'm moving my blog over to a new account, so if you would like to keep updated with the shop and what I'm working on please re-follow me there.
There will be re-posts for a while as I move everything over, so please bear with it. I won't be posting new things at this blog however, everything new will be on the "new" blog!
Why am I moving? I just wanted to make an account where The Quaint Cuddlefish is its own primary blog instead of a secondary one on my personal account. Things feel better this way I think!
Gastradon is finished!
Crochet Abra!
As for the shop coming back, I'm still working on it, I promise!
Reopening is Imminent
I'm starting to flesh out ideas about how to operate The Quaint Cuddlefish more effectively. New policies need to be established, a better process for custom items is a must, and I want to re-open with several plushies ready to go. I especially want to work on my own designs, not just Pokemon. Pokemon will always have a special place in my heart (and my shop) but I absolutely want to bring to life the ideas I've been harbouring for so long. I'm also interested in making (more) plushies from Adventure Time.
When my waiting list was huge the shop felt more like a chore than something I enjoyed. That sucked. I have even been considering closing the shop for good. But I do love making crochet stuffs and I don't want to get burnt out. At the same time I don't want to let customers down or have the shop fade away. There's only so much I can plan for however, and since I do have another job that takes a lot of my time already, this can't be my main focus. It will take some time to get everything in place, but I will have the shop functional again in the somewhat near future.
Thanks for bearing with me. Have a pic of my cat wearing a little collar and tie I made him as a show of my gratitude:
It's the snail from Adventure Time! I was thinking of putting him in my shop. I'd love to make more characters from that show.
