MY OPINION (that absolutely no one asked) ABOUT THE QUEEN OF THE TEARLING CAST
Recently, i have finished the first book of the trilogy The Queen of the Tearling (a really really good book btw) and i was delighted to learn that a movie was about to be done based on the books.
I was less enthusiastic when i learn that Emma Watson will play the role of Kelsea, the heroine of the books.
DISCLAIMER : I love Emma Watson, she's one of my favorite personnality. She is a great actress, a beautiful woman and a inspirationnal activist.
So. In the books, the heroine, Kelsea Raleigh, is a young queen who have to rule her kingdom, facing importants humanitarians problems, and having to deal with the threat of the next door kingdom, ruled by a witch.
She is described as a chubby young woman, with thick black hair, a round face and fleshy lips, green eyes and a manly silhouette.
Her apparence is important in the books. She often think about her face and her body, she compares herself to other women, and she think herself as ugly.
So here i pose the problem. Do you recognize Emma Watson in this description? Because i really don't.
They cast Emma because Kelsea, the heroine, loves books and is quite a feministe and that's the kind of role people figure Emma in. And i understand. But first, I think an amazing actress like Emma should not be conditionned in a type of character (i'm not saying she is, i'm saying she shouldn't). And second, I think this kind of character should not be reserved for a certain type of actors.
There is a description of Kelsea, it's not for nothing. So here is a few actresses that I picture for Kelsea's figure (this is only my opinion, you have every right to disagree).
Here we begin with this beautiful person (i love her voice as much as her face but whatever) : Rachel Miner, that you may know in the role of Meg in the show Supernatural.
She is the first that I thought of while reading. She has this beautiful round face and thick brown hairs that fits perfectly Kelsea, and she has this assured, almost arrogant stature that, i think, would fit Kelsea's royalty.
Unfortunately she doesn't have those green eyes so important in the books, but her face is for me the closest of what I imagine Kelsea's to be.
Anyway here we have my second choice :
I present you Lydia Graham, a beautiful model whose i found the face while wandered on Pinterest. I've read she's also played in Harry Potter the Order of Phœnix, but i couldn't find which character sorry...
Lool at those STUNNING green eyes, she is gorgeous with thoses thick black hairs. She has a strength and in the same time a fragility that I find perfect for Kelsea. Yet she doesn't have this round face and chubby/manly silhouette, but she has this wild and indomptable aura i find perfect for Kelsea.
I don't need to present you the beautiful Ginifer Goodwin, who portrayed Snow White in the show Once Upon a Time.
And i mean, look at the lovely round face, those stunning green eyes, those black hairs. I think she is quite the perfect Kelsea for me!! Her portray of Snow White can convince me that her very charming apparence doesn't prevent her to have the fierce look the correspond so well to Kelsea.
She maybe doesn't have this manly silhouette, but a bit of that chubby look that caractérise Kelsea.
Yes yes yes!! You all know her, Maisie Williams, who played Arya Stark in the serie Game of Throne. She is an amazing young actress that i love!!
She has this round face and green eyes, and brown hair (that could be tied black). I think that she can have those kinda manly feathures when she play, and that fits perfectly Kelsea! And she is younger that every other actress cited earlier, closer to the age of the heroine.
So, what do you think about all of that? I am sorry, i couldn't put all variations of how Kelsea could be portrayed so if you have an idea, please add !
Remember that everyone have it's own vision of an heroine and that all versions are okay, so if you have a black, asian, indian (or else) actress that represent how you imagine Kelsea, don't let the thought "she must be white, the author didn't say she was dark skinned/or anything else" stop you.
Also, you may notice that all the actresses I proposed are beautiful even when I said that the heroine considered herself as "ugly". So, she thinks herself ugly because she doesn't have womanly curve, she has common black hair and a round face. But having all of that doesn't makes you ugly.
So yeah. Hope you enjoy this little out-of-nowhere thing. It's only my opinion, so if you wanna disagree, feel free.
BONUS POINT : beautiful Emma!
