My proposal was accepted! With edits- but my advisors aren't too worried- so I'm trying to be calm and positive. I have to make the edits over winter break, and then start writing after they've been accepted, in the spring. Yippee!

In the lab after hours to do more work.
I’ve been conditioning my brain to shift into thesis mode as soon as 5 PM hits, trying to put in at least two focused hours.
Today's study places
Does anyone else prefer editing to writing?
Putting ideas into words is hard, y’all!
This is a collection of articles that can help you in understanding how to do a good thesis.
The current and updated version of this post is available at the following link:
How to do a good thesis
I divided the process of writing a thesis in 5 different phases:
(i) What to do before starting this journey
(ii) What to do before starting.
(iii) the related work and literature research;
(iv) the experimental part
(v) “the last mile” for driving the work to a conclusion and successful submission.
Before you start:
Start from considering these tips for improving the quality of your proposal. They will help you in understanding how to think scientifically including if you do not have to write a research proposal.
Check if you are aware of all the players around you thesis and what is their interest
Mens sana in corpore sano: Take care of yourself, in particular do not neglect of your physical health
The openings moves:
Ask yourself what you want to do when you will “grow up”. This article will help you understanding how you can take the most from your thesis for your future goals.
(Optional) Get a grasp of what kind of mentor I am. It will help you in understanding what I write in these posts and/or if we are compatible in case you are considering pursuing your thesis with me.
Set up the proper communication tools with your supervisor, so that you will have a better quality time with him/her.
Literature research and related work:
Look at these heuristics for understanding if a paper is worth reading or you should move forward to the next one.
Understand how to select good venues (conference or journal) where you can search for good publication.
Learn how to read a scientific paper faster and more effectively.
The experimental and scientific part
Get an idea on “how to warm up your research engine” and do your first step
Get some inspiration from the work of other scientist and learn how to properly categorize the literature review
<work in progress>
The End Game
Deal with the submission of your thesis and its defense in the proper way
Understand what is Open Access and how you can make the most of it
Consider the benefit (and the extra work) of publish your thesis. Is it worth it?
The End of the Journey
Learn what the future of your thesis could be
Your Bachelor or Master program at your university may or may not require you to write thesis proposal, at the same time you may or may not do your thesis as part of an internship at a company. I am currently trying to cover all these aspects one article at the time.
A few articles may be missing: check the last update at the following links: https://francescolelli.info/how-to-do-a-good-thesis-the-miniseries/
ok all attendance paperstuffs done ... and did my final edits of my thesis proposal .. gonna email the final form to my professor tomorrow so he can look it over before i officially apply [God FINALLY! ... i’ve been thinking about this day for 8 months...].
sunday reading, trying to get some work done on my thesis proposal which is overdue(squared).
feat. the fucking amazing mug that i got for christmas from my bro’s fiancee (she actually gave one to each member of the immediate family and i cannot express how thrilled i was. it won her instant approval from big sis)
backstory on the mug: my dad was in a canadian tire commercial that aired across the country in the fall. he is one of those official reviewer persons that they send free stuff to in order to get reviews so they can slap the “tested for life in canada” sticker on it (you can see the red badge on the mug). anyways, they liked his review of a leaf-blower, so they asked him if he wanted to be in the ad. he came to toronto last spring to film it and then my family has been... well, talking/laughing/teasing about it since it aired. so my bro & his fiancee screencapped the shot of him in the commercial and got mugs made with it and it’s awesome and priceless and i love it so much

Winter has finally arrived and so have my exam results!
First the water froze over and then snow appeared after our lecture. The perfect setting to hunker down and write my thesis proposal.
But best of all, I'm on a high from receiving my grades from December. I really am so proud of myself for what I've achieved and it's a real confidence boost!
