1. Describe yourself how you would describe a character you’re introducing. “Hello,” she says, with a little murdery smirk, and rips off his head. (That’s basically how all my character introductions go, really.)
4. Are there any other fic writers you admire? If so, who and why? Quite a few, so I’ll just list a couple. If you’re not here, it means nothing other than the fact that I’ll be here all day if I talk, in-depth, about my faves.
Anne/bkgrl, because I thought her mythology and the depth of her research in ‘I’m Not Calling You a Liar’ was extremely impressive. It’s fairly rare that I see that level of care in fanfic.
Jess/willowaus, because I am really picky about how Klaus is characterized, and I think he is often whitewashed in fanfic. Jess avoids that and really truly presents him as a monster who just so happens to be head over heels for our favorite blonde cheerleader.
Hillary/hellsbellschime, because she is a newb so far as fiction writing is concerned, but I think she’s doing a great job taking the elements of TO that had promise and executing them in a way that doesn’t make me want to stab myself blind.
Hannah/but seriously, because she was really the first author to get me into the fandom, who inspired some of my own work, and who has a sickening number of fics to choose from, and an even more sickening consistency of quality in her writing that makes me wildly vacillate between a desire to weep on her feet/enviously punch her in the face. (Love yoooouuu.)
Mathilde/the violonist, because her works absolutely haunt me.
Evie/brombones (on FF.net–sunoftheguns here on tumblr), because her writing communicates on a wild, instinctual animal level; you feel it in your bones.
And last but certainly not least, cupcakemolotov, because she’s never even watched TVD but writes everyone, Klaus included, perfectly in-character, and I think maybe she made a deal with Satan or something.
5. How many words can you write if you sit down and concentrate intensely for an hour? I can type at 100+ words per minute, so if we’re talking no distractions, I am absolutely in the zone, it’s just go go go, with an occasional pause for breath here and there–I don’t know, maybe a few thousand? A little more? It’s really hard to judge, because I tend to stop every so often and read back over what I wrote.
6. First fic/pairing you wrote for? (If no pairing, describe the plot) Ummm…I’m going to say Alanna/Jonathan from the Song of the Lioness series. I wrote a lot of fanfic for that fandom back when I was around 12 or so. I think those were my first actual pairing fics.
9. Do you ever have plans to write anything other than fic? Yep. Some historical fiction and an idea I’m mulling over that would incorporate vampire and Viking mythology into one giant, centuries-spanning War and Peace-sized ridiculous monster of a story that I would love to write, but probably never will.
14. Your favorite side pairings to put in? I like Kennett in theory. Also, REBENZO TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!!
16. Do you have structured ideas of how your story is supposed to go, or make it up as you write? A little of both. I always spend a lot of time mulling over a scene before I write it, so that I know, before I even touch the keyboard, what it is I want to accomplish with the scene, what plot point I want to move forward or introduce, whose perspective I want to explore and why, the general tone of the scene, etc. etc. Most of the details I don’t know (aside from maybe a random line of dialogue here or there that I have noted down) until I actually start writing, though. And sometimes a scene will change on me when I actually start writing it, because sometimes I swear characters yank the reins from you, scream, “WE’RE DOING THIS MY WAY NOW, BITCH”, and just leave you in their dust.
