why has no one talked about a sentinels and guides samisa au yet? it's literally exactly what we are all saying except with a touch of magic and making it more real and official.
listen i had no clue of this trope / au until hrpf and a famous ovi fic! because I actually do *love* the caps lockerroom esp in thier cup era and so i do love an ovi/bäckström fic.
anyways, if you're not aware of what a sentinels and guides au entails, idk if i'm the best person to give you a run down, but it's essentially a world where sentinels exist: which by definition is described as "a person, animal, or thing stationed to keep watch and guard a group or area". In fics and aus this is taken as people who experience intense and somewhat superpower-esk sensory input. Think of spiderman. They can hear something happening a building away, smell something a mile out, and see dust particles with the same precision you see a baseball flying through the air. It's, in short, incredibly overwhelming sensory experiences at all times. Then there's guides. Guides exist pretty much to help a sentinel be able to traverse and exist through the world. They can calm a sentinel, tell somewhat what they're feeling, to give them an outlet, to teach them techniques etc. It is something people are born with: a guide ability. Not everyone is born with it, although more people are born with an ability to guide than sentinels are born. But you have to cultivate it, learn how to do it. It's not something you innately can do — i mean some people sure, but not most.
But ofc, Sam is a guide, and Misa is a sentinel. Being a Sentinel kinda makes hockey, for lack of a better term, impossible. But for those who make it through juniors, despite all odds. They are good. Really Good.
Misa probably doesn't have a guide, because there's all sorts of protections between Sentinel and Guide pairs that would allow them to come to the sharks with Misa, and he doesn't have one.
It's interesting that Sam is a guide, because, well, he's the loudest guy in the room at all times. He draws attention to himself. He's nosy and arrogant at times, and laidback. He's everything that would generally be a nightmare for a guy like Misa.
But Misa knew immediately upon meeting that Sam was a guide. Sam didnt say anything though, and in fact just acted like as bas as you could around a Sentinel. He was loud and obnoxious and always laughing. He's touchy, and he's bright. But he acts like Misa's normal. Like he's just one of them. Somehow its like Sam's so bright that he dims everything else in the room. Misa finds himself laughing along with a stupid joke he made, and finding no discomfort in the scratch of his teammates laughs. He's saying yes to everything Sam asks. He genuinely likes sam. A lot. They spend a lot of time together.
And then Sam finds Misa in a bar or a club or Toffs house during a party, finds him in a bathroom on the floor lights off, and he just sits across from him. Holding his wrists to keep Mike from tearing his hair out. He smooths back some hair behind Mike's ear and it's like turning a dial down on all his sensory input, everything becomes darker, quieter. He can breath.
Sam knows what Mike is. But Sam never went to school for being a guide. He was too focused on hockey. But he likes mike soo much. He cannot stand the thought of Mike finding some other guide. It will be him. No matter what he has to do.
