Ash Princess Review
~may contain spoilers~
Ash Princess is one of the best starting book series I have read since ACOTAR. It was so good! Despite the fact it had a love triangle the book was great!
I loved the inner turmoil Theodosia has while contemplating whether or not she should go through with killing someone. To me this shows that, unlike some novel characters, she isn’t a straight ruthless killer. She feels guilty and almost sick over it at times.
Her relationship with Prinz Soren was really sweet and I was really sad when she betrayed him in the end, and I am curious as to how their relationship will continue.
Her relationship with Blaise, although not a sweeping romance, was very sweet and lovable. It didn’t take a late night boat ride to make things feel romantic. Him simply holding her after the whipping or making him her first kiss instead of Soren. To me it was simple in the best way.
I also really like enjoyed the religious aspect of it. I am by no means a religious person, but I thought it was all very interesting. The gods and goddesses, the way even Theodosia questioned if they were real and if so why wouldn’t they help her country. It seemed so real as to why would God put their people through so much when they had the power to help.
The friendship between Cress and Theodosia was also very interesting. Though Cress’ father murdered Theo’s mom she still accepted Cress’ friendship. They were Heart’s sisters and even though they really shouldn’t be. When Cress shows her true colors blackmailing Theo I was almost as heart broken as she had been. At the end I was still surprised how much Theo cared about Cress despite everything she had done and to me it just proved how great of a protagonist she was.
The dynamic between Theodosia and Heron, Artemisia and Blaise was honestly one of the best. Though Theo is there queen they, especially Artemisia, aren’t afraid to tell her what they truly think of her role or her suggestions on how to further the revolution. It just showed that though they were followers they weren’t always obedient or had the same thoughts.
At the very end when Theodosia finds Dragonsbane I was so shocked to find out they she turned out to be Theo’s mom’s twin. I was a little disappointed for her that her aunt didn’t appear to be very friendly and that there wasn’t going to be a sweet family reunion, but it added perfectly to the thrill of what she will be like in the next book.
As you can see I think very highly of this book and if you are putting it off because of some ‘cliches’ try it! I highly recommend! :)
