The Superman accessory kit for the Thingmaker toy from Mattel, circa mid-1960s.

First introduced in 1964, Thingmaker was an activity toy that allowed kids to create their own rubbery toys. The toy included metal moulds, Mattel's Plastigoop liquid plastic, and an open-face electric oven. The Plastigoop was poured into the mould, which was then heated to 390º Fahrenheit (199º Celsius)! After the mould cooled, kids had their own rubbery toy.

If you hadn't heard, we had some amazingly dangerous toys in the 1960s and 1970s. Thingmaker was a hot griddle that you poured chemicals into, and we liked it, we loved it.

While I was at the Tucson toy show, I found this stand by some folks who sell vintage Creepy Crawlers and related stuff, even selling some of the figures made with that sort of plastigoop, and they gave me their card for their website!

So, given my follower-base’s interests, I thought I might as well share it with y’all, because it’s a relatively small operation, and it’s pretty endearing/sweet.
