Talked about this on bsky already but more people see my stuff here so I feel like revealing a little bit of lore about this. Obviously it's a bunch of soldiers doing a very heinous act and I tried to emphasize that none of them are too involved in what they're doing, they're just doing another shitty day at work.
I did this one drawing once of Ariane taking revenge on an Eule unit since the Eules at her school were quite hostile, but I felt like the result was quite exploitative and violent for shock's sake, so I scrapped it. Instead, I made a sequence of Ariane being bullied and then the Eule being shown in a more human light, suffering for what she's forced to do. I would show it but the image inserts bugged because tumblr working is like boiling ice.
Point is, I try to refrain from depicting revenge or evil or even the death of faceless extras for no reason. Never liked it in movies, though I'm fine with it in games. Especially if they're nazis or something. I guess I'm slowly hating everything american so I try to get rid of this mindset of shooting people and blowing shit up. Fuck Hollywood and fuck Lord of the Rings and fuck Indiana Jones. I try to give everyone a face and a personality.
I feel like violence comes across a lot more impactful when it's delivered in a dry way rather than stylized gore. Even war I don't think it's that interesting to depict as different factions with each one having a point, but as some kind of distant state of being that swallows people and turns them into the worst version of themselves, like in this one drawing up there. Gotta give it a sense of weight.
