Some people, be they family or friend, will congratulate you when you do something right. But won't show up when you need help, won't help you get the things you need to keep afloat, won't offer, won't ask; but you keep smiling anyway. You keep moving forward. But the moment you aren't there for them, they shun you. Tell you there was no reason for you to miss out on being there, despite not asking, not calling, not doing anything other than the superficial. If you have at least one person in your life that does ask you if you're alright, that does ask you if you need help, that does check on you and does more than the superficial, that person is worth more than you'll ever know. Keep them close. Always. And remember, if you lived your life based on what people thought of you, the only thing that would come from such a life would be nothing but sadness, empty expectations and superficial acts.
