“I believe X” is a coherent and defensible rhetorical position. No matter how good it feels to tack on “because Y is dumb,” you are undermining your rhetorical position. Y-believers are not going to listen to you, and may retreat further into Y-defense not for any deep belief but because people don’t like being called morons. You can say that you’re not trying to reach skeptical audiences - that an inside-post is not a formal argument. However, one has to wonder how even sympathetic audiences feel about having their performance of X-belief measured, or their thoughts/work only brought up in reference to how stupid Y-belief is. And then people wonder why creation feels same-y and any measured view is invariably split into two increasingly disparate camps.
