I'm glad that this guy is actually defending Black anime fans, but at the same time it's too bad he didn't fully acknowledge why Black fans were upset with Urana's Insta story and not super great apology.
I am familiar with this creator, and for the most part I do enjoy his takes on how Black fans are treated in fandom culture, especially Eastern spaces.
The point of this video was calling attention to the fact that Black fans are being disproportionately targeted with hate and harassment for the mangaka's behaviors, when in actuality it is mainly white and native Japanese fans attacking her. He did briefly touch on the specific antiblackness that is occurring in the Gachiakuta fandom, but I would, and have, been far more critical of the situation.
I cannot help but sympathize with my fellow Black people who want badly to appreciate Gachiakuta as a work that features in a much more positive light than most anime would give us credit for. Not only do we have Black characters but the music and fashion are inspired, the culture is there. Sometimes people just want to take what they can get.
However, I have already stated that the dance situation and the response from the mangaka herself were atrocious and I don't feel like giving anyone involved the benefit of the doubt. Black fandom spaces need to be wide enough to host all of our emotions, this includes rage and disgust at antiblack behavior.
