This…was not how things were supposed to go. Granted, the second Jinu realized he felt any sort of empathy, he knew his plan was done for. Damn Huntrix, he thought over and over again. But what could they do? While he was thankful he and the other Saja Boys had managed to escape relatively unharmed, their reputation surely wasn’t. And neither was their strength.

With nowhere to go that felt even close to safety, Jinu had to do his best to keep his group in check while they jumped nightly from squatting in abandoned buildings to sleeping in dirty alleyways. He did his best to comfort Romance’s growing objections about how filthy he felt, Abby’s complaints about his ruined clothing, Mystery’s quiet mumbles about how much he disliked the lack of any real beds, and Baby’s…well, Baby usually just glared at him from the other side of the group, but Jinu got the gist. Nowhere was safe, if they were spotted in the daylight hours, Huntrix would certainly come after them again and they weren’t strong enough to fight back.

So, here he is, laying back on the filthy concrete of a disgusting alley, the other Saja Boys sprawled similarly as they attempted to get something even close to sleep. His gaze lingered on the stars above his head, trying to formulate some sort of plan to get them out of this and back to topping the charts, to keep their fans from forgetting about them. The silence that stretched between them was deafening, Jinu hadn’t had a full conversation with either of the boys since his disasterous betrayel, but he knew none of them were actually sleep. He opened his mouth to say something, anything to break the ice between them. But then he heard it.

A gutural scream. Far away, distant, but he swears he heard it.

Quickly, he sits up and scans the darkness. He glances behind him, noticing the other Saja Boys doing the same. Then he turns back around and- “UGH!” Now he’s the one shrieking as a man is standing before him, leaning down to examine his face. He didn’t remember hearing any footsteps.

“Well, well! You Saja Boys sure are hard to find~” the man coos, taking a step back and standing upright, standing beneath a dim streetlight. It’s not very bright, but Jinu can make out the mostly-smudged face make up in the design of a skeleton, the unusually fashionable and clearly expensive clothing he’s in despite standing in a filthy alley, and…the slight yellow tinge to his eyes.

It all started as a joke, one night while hanging out with your friends, some of them started teasing you by saying how cute of a couple you and Felix would make. You had never thought of him like that and you are sure he does not feel like that about you either. But you could not help but wonder... What it?

You didn't know at the time but Felix also had feelings for you. He never worked up the courage to approach you because he feared you would reject him. He saw you as someone very self-assured and goal-oriented, he didn't believe you would like someone with a life like his and it was one of the reasons he never tried to grow a more intimate relationship with you.

You, on the other hand, never thought about yourself as someone interesting, your life consisted in working and studying, even while having fun with your friends, you could not keep your mind out of your duties. You never invested in your friendship with him because you were scared you would bore him to death.

The past few days since you last saw him had passed slowly, you carried on your routine as always and were getting ready for bed when you received a text on the group chat you had with your friends. Felix included. They talked about meeting later that night at some restaurant for a late-night snack.

"Idk. I'm really tired right now" you replied, not feeling like going out so late.

"Cmon, you are no fun yk!!" One of them replied.

Feeling a bit confronted you decided to sacrifice your rest for some food you may not even like.

"Okay, see you guys in a min" you finally said

Your phone rang as another text showed up at the group chat.

"Almost ready too", it said, and it was Felix. Your heart started to race, and you wondered why you felt like that, your face burning with embarrassment.

Your friends had agreed to give you a ride, so you got dressed and went to wait for them by the door. Not long had passed when they arrived, your two friends on the front seat, Felix on the back. You opened the door and got in. Your hands touched him briefly and you almost died inside.

You could swear he had a smile on his face. Your friends teased saying double dates should be a thing you guys did more often.

You guys arrived at the restaurant, it was a nice and quiet place, right in front of a park, the four of you seated on the outside tables, the weather was nice and the smell of the food was making you hungry.

You ordered and the conversation started, you almost forgot you were nervous for a moment. After eating both of your friends decided to go to the park for a walk. You didn't feel like walking so you decided to stay behind at the restaurant. Felix promptly offered to keep you company.

"You really don't need to" you tried to convince him

"It's okay, I'm not much into walks anyway" he smiled at you.

Your friends left leaving the two of you behind. An awkward silence followed for a few minutes before Felix started talking.

"I'm glad you decided to come too," he said. "It was my idea, you know."

"What?" You answered, confused.

"I just wanted an excuse to see you," he said. Looking down, his face turning red.

You were so confused that you could not formulate any coherent thoughts. Felix was shaking inside. He had spent the past week convincing himself to finally say what he feels. He had been talking to your friends about you and they helped him come up with this plan.

"Why would you want that?" You finally spoke.

"What do you mean?"

"Why would you want to see me? I mean, it's not like we are really close"

"I guess it's my fault, I didnt think you would be interested in me, so I just kept my distance... Maybe a little too much..."

You looked down, still in shock. You would never think he had feelings for you.

"Well, I hope I didn't creep you too much," he said, leaving out a little chuckle.

You smiled and finally looked at him in the eyes. He was as red as you. You felt a bit of comfort knowing you weren't the only one resembling a tomato.

"Next time maybe let's not invite those two dumbasses..." You said, indicating your friends "They are annoying"

He laughed.

"Okay, deal."

I am beyond grateful to everyone who has helped me out lately. I've been able to eat and pay a bill(a big past due one)thanks to donations. But I have a huge bill coming up. My rent. Its $575 and this is my current bank account balance. My husband still hasn't been able to find a job. He's put in hundreds of apps and gotten nothing back. It's literally killing him. Both of us are depressed and stressed out and he's had more panic attacks in the last month then he has in the last year.

I will get paid before it's due but it won't be enough(thank you job that barely pays minimum wage)and my dad can't help me anymore. He's too in debt(and still waiting on a massive insurance payout from my uncle's death. We're talking millions. It's been a fucking year since my uncle was killed in a car crash. And we've gotten nothing from the other person's insurance company)to pay his own bills. I need at least 300 bucks. If I can get that by March 5th I will be so grateful. And if I can do anything in return please let me know?

I hope you're doing well! I went back and reread your fic (eager for the next chapter). Do you mind sharing your thoughts on the society in the Hells or even the history of the Baator? I think Raphael's place in it all is fascinating. I can't help but cheer him on!

For example, where do living mortals come into it? You made it clear a few times that Fortuna has a warped view of the place from her unique place in the House of Fortune. I'm just curious how bad it is out there beyond what the reader gets to know.

Hi, thank you! I am doing pretty well. And I appreciate the thought provoking questions :) I use my fic to explore my own head canons by building a tiny little world. A lot in the story is left up to interpretation as well.

I roughly put together a society in my mind based off of what I’ve read and my own outlook of Evil. The lore of the dnd world is loose enough to where you can make your own society of Hell pretty easily by exaggerating or minimizing aspects of what is presented.

There are a few themes that I can touch on though.

Devil vs Demons (as well as neutral fiends)

Law vs Chaos

Nature of Evil

Devils and Demons and Fiends (Oh My)

Basically the lore going on in the background is that Devils play a key role in the ecosystem of the cosmos. They do a damn good job keeping demons from overrunning the Hells and the material plane through the Blood War.

They take the mortal souls from the contracts and use them to create more Baatezu (devils from Baator aka the Hells). These souls also can be minted into soul coins.

While all fiends are evil, devils are lawful and demons are chaotic. Neutral fiends like incubi and succubi, can live in either camp. It’s worth noting that in my understanding, these neutral fiends as well as lawful cambions are outside of the Baatezu promotional chart. For instance, a Lemure can never hope to become a cambion or incubus one day; it is impossible.

Law vs Chaos

Devils keep the Chaos of the Abyss at bay. No sane person wants an outbreak of demons on their plane. Devils, entities warped and mutated from celestials by eons of battling demons, still take pride in their lawful nature. It is what distinguishes them from the impulsive, chaotic demons they fight. They are still clearly evil and have no one’s interest at heart but their own as individuals. They each search for a greater role within the Hells.

Each individual Baatezu strives to climb up the hierarchy because they fear true death. Dying as a lemure means an end to that soul’s existence. They climb their ladders within the realm of the law or they face consequences. Big Mo encourages this ambition. He only has little tolerance for those breaking the laws to do so (see Baalzebul’s curse). For devils, there is an interesting balance between self preservation and contributing to the whole of society. I joked about devils reminding me of bees or ants as a society, but they are also incredibly selfish on an individual level.

This lawful persuasion of evil is what inspired the seemingly puritanical society within the Hells. As you might have read, sex is a but taboo thing for devils if it isn’t being used as a tool. Otherwise it is a distraction from a devil’s duties and allows oneself to feed into a base level desire. One allows impulse and pleasure to trump self control. That is to say there is a shame around it. But incubi and succubi still get plenty of business regardless of that condemnation. On the other hand, higher ranking devils are specifically allowed to partake. As is the way in these sorts of societies. In the words of Mel Brooks “it’s good to be the king.” This allowance is yet another reason a devil may want to rise to power.

Nature of Evil

To oversimplify a hefty philosophical discussion. I think “Evil” involves: self interest, willingness to hurt others for clout or personal gain, manipulating situations and people to one’s advantage, hunger for power over others, feeding into those temptations which will hurt others. You know, skrewing people over and asserting your will over their best interests. These can all be done within a civilized society. Still evil. There are more barbaric and graphic versions of evil too. Obviously physical violence, assault, etc.. Still these are imparting one’s will onto another. These are simply less tactical. They feed a base desire, nothing grand.

In lore, Asmodeus argues that Evil is its own entity, rather than an absence of Good. It is a means of progressing towards an organized universe in underhanded ways. Law simply provides the rules to play by.

Haarlep is a good example of the dichotomy of Law and Chaos since he would be neutral. When he is well fed, he is charming and will smooth talk you into sex. He is able to play the long game and wait for you to come to him. When he is starving, he becomes far more aggressive and takes what he wants. In my mind, an assault like this is chaotic and lacks higher facilities.

As for your other questions:

The mortals around the Hells could have any story. They could be warlocks like Korrilla and Hope. There is “safety” in already having your soul claimed by a devil. They could businessmen or traders. Maybe they are just thrill seekers. If a mortal knows the rules, they may be fine. Though, even the Hells have a prison for those naughty devils who break her laws. It is far from a safe place.

Basically Hell sucks because of the people who live there and what is considered legal. For instance, slavery is legal. Haarlep is a slave due to a mechanic I borrowed from older lore.

Cambions remain cambions. Their half mortal lineage makes them less than other devils. They do not fall into the hierarchy of the Baatezu. They can only prove themselves and climb in military or maybe aristocratic rank or favor. This is why Mizora is happy to help our partner, Raph. Her reason is that it opens another door for someone like her.

Anyway. I hope that gives you an idea of the world beyond what the Fortuna character knows. There is plenty more to it, but some stuff is saved for future chapters. Thanks again 😊

Book Reaction: the Catcher in the Rye

WARNING: Spoilers. Also, I didn’t make my writing ‘pretty’, so you’ll just read my thoughts, my incredibly dull thoughts.

     OKay, SO...

As I told earlier, I didn’t like the book much. I didn’t understand the whole point, and it took me so long to realize that I was not supposed to because neither does the narrator, Holden Caulfield (I think), knows what he’s doing. He’s one impulsive kid, and he didn’t even care what consequences may bring. He just thought “I feel like I should, so I would. Okay, maybe not, but maybe. Let’s see.” I could sort of relate, not gonna lie. Anyways, so he does this, he does that-- for a 16-year-old (and I’m not belittling 16-year-olds), he was brave enough to just go out on his own, very immature yet brave. (I feel like saying this because I’m a big coward to go out on my own, honest.)

The most of the time I was reading, I was only doing it for the sake of this ‘commitment’ experiment I was trying out. I’m not much of a book-reader, specially classics, but I’d like to know if I could finish reading a book with 75k words (because again, I’m not a book lover). Yet for some reason, I’m just determined to finish it. I thought, at first, it was only because I wanted to know what happens in the ending, but if that’s the case, I could so easily just flip the pages to the ending, and I did, but I did not read any further than “THAT’S ALL”-- particularly because I didn’t want to be spoiled. However, that reason held so much more. When he talked about money and why he hated it, I related to him. And for some reason, that sparked curiosity in me (haha, the curious cat). I wanted to know if and how much I related more to him because frankly, I don’t know myself well enough and needed answers somewhere. I wanted to find answers in that book, and honestly, I’m not at all regretting that time spent. No answers though, but it felt good someone, even a fictional character, related to me even the slightest.

Aside from the money, and I realized this way at the later part of the book, I finally understood the whole impulsive actions of Holden. He was lost. He was so goddamn lost. He somewhat hated everything, but I’m guessing it’s because he didn’t like what’s happening, and when he hates something, he gets the hell away from it. He just hates feeling depressed and lonesome-- god, don’t make me feel that, Holden. I, too, hate that (not clinically depressed, just low-spirited sometimes). 

So he does things, then, by the end of the book, he visits his sister. They talk and stuff, and what I like the most about Holden is that he’s actually a nice brother. He could be a prick sometimes and get on people’s nerves-- he knows it too, I think--, but god, he’s kind to his siblings-- Allie and Phoebe. His mother too as he cared for her feelings, only he’s unable to do something about it, and that makes him depressed. He’s got this side that makes your heart soft. I like that one.

 Then, he visits this man, Mr Antolini. I’ve gotten some perspective from him, and they’re not exactly the answers I’m looking for, but it’s worth remembering. And here’s the stuff he says.

“This fall I think you’re riding for—it’s a special kind of fall, a horrible kind. The man falling isn’t permitted to feel or hear himself hit bottom. He just keeps falling and falling.”

“I have a feeling that you’re riding for some kind of terrible, terrible fall. . . . The whole arrangement’s designed for men who, at some time or other in their lives, were looking for something their own environment couldn’t supply them with. . . . So they gave up looking.”

And there’s so much more but I think it did not sink in enough for me to remember, so I might read it again (the paragraphs of his quotes) just in case. Anyways, I like these quotes. I think I should know them because I might be in one, and I just have to remind myself, I guess, that I’m in that scenario, and I must do something about it. I like these ones very much. 

OHH! And I almost forgot, god, I love what Holden wants to be-- the catcher in the rye. Basically, he will save kids who would run towards the cliff by catching them before they go any further. It’s not a real job, I think, but it could be a metaphorical job. To save someone from falling just how he is falling... that’s nice. I like it. Makes me soft again.

Then lastly, he fights with his sister, Phoebe, but tries to make up with her by visiting the zoo. The whole scenario is nice. I like it. I’m lost for words. Saying I like it or I love it... it’s understatement, but what I feel... I feel good. I feel good for Holden because he finally felt good. And I hope, I sincerely hope for him, even if he was just a fictional character, that he starts a new chapter for his own... and let it be a dull one, but surely, something good for his own. 

I didn’t think I’ll like the story this much because I don’t mean to offend, but it did bore me at some point. Yet, by the end of the book, I surprised myself. I said “That’s nice.” because I like it. I like it a lot.

I’ve been having this silent discussion in my head for the past three days and since I actually realized I have nothing else to write about at the moment here you have it:

It just seems to me that to me that, today, movie producers are really reliant on the sociopolitical agenda while making movies. Like it is evident how the decisions made while considering producing movies are based how the media and people will react to it when it is released. I know this is how it usually works and all but considering how radical ideas are silenced and after a while all movies (and tv shows for that matter) seem to all look just the same from a viewerspoint. Even casting decisions are made with the consideration of how the media will react to casting the actor necessary for the role. As a women with a middle eastern and islamic background (although common misconception, while almost 99% of my country is muslim, I consider myself to be an atheist) who is often stereotyped by hollywood as ‘hostile terrorists’ (although some of these misconceptions also extends to real life, as I am often asked questions like if I ‘still use camels to travel’ although my country has no deserts -while travelling abroad-and this misconception continues to grow as the media represents us as ‘people who are underdeveloped and that our mindsets and religion -which is not the issue here believe me- disables us to be progressive in ANY way and that we are still those ‘deeply religious’ people with funny accents in other peoples stories). So, I understand the value of representation in movies and media. It angers me to this day that people of my ethnic background are still blindly misrepresented. And, while I do see genuine protests on how important representation is by activists and actors/actresses, the fact still remains is that: the movie industry does’t care how representation is handled. Representation isn’t necessarily throwing in some POC into productions just in the sake of seeming to ‘represent’ them or their cultures. I am grateful for the increase in representation in movies, but cannot help wondering if there was some agenda behind enforcing such character. It continues to be an issue and what people don’t undestand I guess is that wrongly represented cultures are faced with increased prejudice based on misconceptions made by a person who is most likely an outsider to the said culture.

An absolute yes. We as humans begin as a base layer and are changing constantly as we absorb our surroundings.

However, not everyone is capable of change because some do not wish to. They are comfortable in their positions and remain negligent of themselves.

Those who wish to change, can and will, it just needs to be maintained and reinforced positively.

「BASICS」

Buckle up, children, while I get super personal on all of you before I realize what a horrible idea this is.

There is nothing more comforting to me than the aesthetic of autumn in its entirety. I absolutely love making tea and having a book while it rains outside. I love sweaters and brisk air and pumpkin-y things and whiskey and being in front of a fireplace. It is my absolute favorite setting. 

When I was a small child, my sisters and I would always go to this indoor jungle-gym park. I loved it, except for one part because it wobbled, giving the illusion you’d fall. I developed a strong aversion to heights at a young age. So I was minding my business on the parts I felt safest when a little boy started crying. His dad was too large to come all the way up to the part where his son was. The little boy was in hysterics. All the other kids gave him looks and left him alone. So I went over. The boy was stuck right in the middle of the only part in the play-park I didn’t go. His dad asked if I could coax him down. I tried to verbally get the boy to where I could reach him, but the kid was too upset to move. So I swallowed my fear and went out to him. I got him and lead him back down the whole way, leading him by hand when he could manage and carry him when he couldn’t do it. His dad was more appreciative than I thought he’d be. The little boy wasn’t really in danger, but I felt such a pride at “rescuing” this kid. It was around this time that a slow and steady passion for law-enforcement grew.

What does that have to do with anything? My parents really didn’t want me to be a cop, and as a child, I also developed a love for movies and writing. I became convinced at the idea of writing for television. I even started going to school for it. Unfortunately, a lot has changed over the years about and for me. I thought this is what I wanted to do, but I have learned that while amazing, the career path is just not for me at this time. I may come back to pursue it, and I certainly hope to still continue writing and submitting scripts, but now? Over the years the quiet hum telling me to be a cop has grown louder and louder. I’ve always had a protective nature and a strong desire to help people. I only hope I can be good at my job and be the kind of officer needed in a time like this. 

I have always been a very intense lover of sports. (Quite the topic jump). I started soccer/football at 6ish? and continued to play through high school, primarily as a keeper. I started playing lacrosse as soon as it was offered. My area isn’t big in the sport, so there aren’t many opportunities before high school. I was a two-year captain of my team and the team’s keeper. I lettered all four years of my career. I also played a little basketball, ran as a sprinter and high-jumper in track, but neither for very long. I also tried field hockey for a season and didn’t care for it. Going to college, I didn’t join any teams because I knew I wouldn’t have much time, but I found I really came to miss it. I ended up hearing about a hurling club near my school that was fairly laid-back and only met 2-3 times a week, perfect for my schedule. I can safely say I’ve fallen in love with the sport, but I’m still pretty new to it. I also had interest in joining my school’s rugby club, seeing as it too only met twice a wee, not including games and gym time, but we’ll see. I’m also a huge Tottenham Hotspurs fan. Yeah COYS!

I am quite a huge fan of video games. Tomb Raider, back in 2001 was the first series I had been introduced to. It’s still one of my favorites, from the first game to Tomb Raider (2013). I still have yet to play Rise of The Tomb Raider because on console I am Playstation all the way. I also really love the Uncharted Series, and QuanticDream games like Farenheit, Heavy Rain, and Beyond: Two Souls. Horror games like Until Dawn and Outlast/Whistleblower are tons of fun. Skyrim is one of my most favorite games because of how expansive it is. That being said, story-wise, the most amazing and powerful game I’ve ever played is by far The Last of Us. If you love video games and haven’t played this one yet, I’d really really recommend it. It’s beautifully written, the acting is superb, it’s a heartwrenching story, the scenery is fantastic, and the music is some of my favorite. I’ve played it three times and played the DLC twice, and am considering getting the ps4 version JUST BECAUSE.

「EXPERIENCE」

▐ HOW LONG ( YEARS/MONTHS): Oh man, well, at 12-13 a friend of mine made a website to use as a roleplay forum. That only lasted for a year or so. Then in 2010 I joined Tumblr and started rping at the end of the year.

▐ PLATFORMS USED: Tumblr, though I’ve been terribly inactive for quite some time.

▐ BEST EXPERIENCE: Hmm, that’s a tough one. When I started writing on tumblr I had some bad experiences with a bad fandom and so I went away a while. Coming back I think was a really good time. It was in the Doctor Who fandom. There were lots of cool people and so many characters to write with. Doing a scifi muse like that there were no rules. Threads could take place in any time, crossovers were crazy common, and rping with a duplicate of your own character wasn’t odd. I got to meet a ton of talented people and really grow as a writer. I learned a lot about myself during that time as well. Not to be a complete kiss-ass, but after leaving that muse there was sort of a duller period until coming here. The Angel fandom had as much of an impact on me as that did. I changed and grew a lot and found the muse I feel closest to and perhaps most comfortable writing. I really love this fandom and am so grateful to have met the amazing people here. I’m thrilled that my time writing DW was not a one-and-done experience and that this blog can be so fun and successful.

▐ MALE OR FEMALE: Predominantly male, but my favorite female muse is Sameen Shaw and I enjoyed writing her over many male muses.

▐ FAVORITE FACE: David Tenant still may be my favorite because there are billions of gifs out there for him for every range of emotion. He’s incredibly expressive.

▐  LEAST FAVORITE FACE: Honestly, there were never any I really hated. I guess people like Justin Bieber were the most annoying, but even if I didn’t like a faceclaim I can tune it out.

▐ FLUFF, ANGST, OR SMUT:  Um, yes. haha Probably angst is the most fun cause I’m evil, but fluff is also fantastic. I’m not a huge fan of smut.

▐ PLOTS OR MEMES:  Both. Cause honestly some really great threads came out of memes. 

▐ LONG OR SHORT REPLIES: I prefer longer replies, I guess, but I really just like to match my partner, so whatever fits the thread best.

▐ BEST TIME TO WRITE: Very late at night, when everyone is asleep and the place is quiet. 

▐ ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSES: Well, I relate to all of my muses. Being able to connect with them, so to speak, really helps me with the writing process. There are things I feel I really have in common with some of them, but I feel the closest overall to Wesley. I think it’s easy for me to see strengths someone has that I can relate to and feel good about having, but with Wesley in particular, I really relate to his weaknesses and struggles as well, something that I feel added very strongly to why this show was so important to me.
