Hi! I love your work so much!! Can you do #35 of the request list with Five please?
*35: running out in the middle of the night to get a food item they’re craving // taken from this prompt list
It was becoming harder to focus on the movie playing from the projector with the way Klaus’s gentle braiding of your hair was beginning to lull you into a state calm; the energy you’d held previously from your earlier game of Candy Land with the Hargreeves siblings was beginning to dwindle. What was meant to be a quiet, simple game quickly took an aggressive turn and ended abruptly with Diego decapitating the head of Luther and Allison’s gingerbread man— you shouldn’t have expected any less from them, competitiveness flowed through their veins, but you really had hoped that the game meant to be played by children as young as three years old would be enough to keep the team calm and away from each other’s (and their gingerbread men’s) throats.
Reginald was out for the weekend, off on a “business trip,” as he vaguely explained it, and left the academy kids in the hands of Pogo. The ape was much more lenient and understanding with the children, so when they asked for a day off he was happy to give it with them, and when they asked to invite you over he granted them permission without any hesitation. You seemed to be the only slice of normalcy in their lives, the girl without powers who lived across the street and went to a regular school and lived a regular life, and your presence always seemed to brighten up the usually dreary household. In both his eyes and Grace’s you were good for them, so any time you were able to come over they welcomed you with open arms, and whether Reginald liked it or not you had been deemed an honorary member of the Umbrella Academy by the heroes themselves.
It’s midnight now and only four of you are awake with Luther, Allison, Vanya, and Ben all passed out for the night. Diego and Five are intently watching the movie, one you don’t really remember the name of and stopped paying attention to after about twenty minutes in. Instead you lean your head back into Klaus’s lap so he can braid your hair while the both of you discuss how Allison and Luther look a little too comfortable curled up together on the loveseat.
“Diego, can you pass me the snack bag?” You whisper to the boy who tosses the plastic liquor store bag in your direction without ever once removing his eyes from the screen. You gift him a silent thanks before digging in, but your brows crease in dismay when you come up empty handed. “Hey, where the hell are my chips?”
“Oh, Luther ate them when you and Five left to go pick up the pizza for dinner,” Klaus explains offhandedly, causing an irritated groan to tumble past your lips in response.
“That boy could eat a whole horse if he wanted to,” you grumble as you sink down onto the floor with a small pout.
“He’s a growing boy,” Klaus notes with a teasing smile. “You could have some of my leftover gummy worms if you want?” He offers only for you to politely decline.
From the other side of the room where Five has been watching Klaus braid your hair with envy and disdain all night, an idea comes to mind as he abruptly rises from his seat on the floor and excuses himself out into the hallway with haste. He doesn’t want anyone to know about what he plans to do because otherwise he’ll never hear the end of it and really, it’s not that big of a deal. He can teleport after all, so making a quick stop to the local liquor store in the middle of the night to buy you your favorite bag of chips isn’t that much of an inconvenience and therefore isn’t worth mentioning. Would he do this for his other siblings? Probably not without complaint. But you were a guest after all, and as one of the hosts shouldn’t he be making sure you’re taken good care of during your stay with the Hargreeves?
Thanks to his powers it takes him less than five minutes to retrieve your snack, and before you even notice he was missing in the first place Five drops the party size bag of chips in your lap before sitting down in between you and Klaus. Your brows raise in surprise as you look from the bag to the boy sitting beside you who refuses to meet your gaze.
“Whoa, where’d you get these?”
“Turns out Luther didn’t actually eat them, they were left over in the kitchen for some reason,” he offers with a simple shrug.
“Wait a minute, but I saw Luther-“ Klaus begins to say but immediately shuts his mouth at the warning glare Five shoots his way. The two of them both know good and well that Luther did, in fact, eat your snack, but you don’t need to know that.
“What a relief. I’ve been craving these all night,” you note with a sigh before popping open the bag of chips. Before taking one for yourself you make sure to offer your snack to Five with a grateful smile, and after a moment’s hesitation he takes a single chip from the bag before returning his attention to the movie.
Both you and Klaus end up falling asleep on his shoulders, and though he wants to complain he has to admit it’s rather nice having someone feel comfortable enough to sleep on him. Movie nights are always his favorite nights, especially when you’re invited.
