Okay, let's talk about this scene right here.

First of all, the simple fact that a smile and laugh from Caroline can produce the biggest smile I have ever seen Stefan give. It's just incredible how much she amazes him. He looks at her and he smiles :)

But what I really love about this scene is in the 3rd and 4th gifs. Matt and Elena are feeling nostalgic and telling old stories of when THEY were a couple and they can't even notice how much it makes Caroline uncomfortable. Remember the insecure, neurotic, control-freak? It's this Caroline right here.

But what is amazing to me is how Stefan was the ONLY one through out the episode that could sense that Caroline was not okay. Matt didn't. Elena didn't. Stefan did. And his smile there is a polite one to go with the laughs of Matt and Elena but you see it's different from the first. It's kind of a smile of understanding. He doesn't take his eyes off of her, even when she's not even looking at him anymore. But somehow he gets her. He always did. And this right here is proof once again that he can understand and accept her for who she is.
