That is brief enough for me to work magic with it!

Dipper sometimes couldn't stand crowded cities. Too many bodies, too much energy, too much temptation. It was hard to drift silently though crowds without tasting some of their energy or pulling a prank on the more unsuspecting ones. Even worse was when he ran into a supernatural creature posing as a human or a human with the Sight. They would either gape and stare or look like they were going to vomit. There was no in-between.

However, Dipper thought as he drifed above the crowded street, there is an upside.

Without saying a single word, he dove towards Hank and poked him in the side. "Found you."

"Aw, dangit!" Hank pouted up at his uncle. "You're too good at this! No fair floating!"

"Well maybe," Dipper chuckled, ruffling Hank's ginger locks, "You should find a place with more redheads, huh? You won't stand out that much that way."

"You still cheated," Hank grumbled, but a small smile was creeping across his features and eventually he laughed, pointing Dipper towards the FAO Shwarz, "Acacia is hiding there and Willow went to get a hot dog."

"Thanks Dog Star. Now go tackle your mom. I spotted her byt the fountain, kissing on your dad."

"Ew," the young boy pulled a face and Dipper chuckled as he ran off to sabotage his parents' 'alone time'.

Crowded cities were hard to deal with sometimes but playing plain-sight hide and seek was fun for everyone involved.

@michiopa gave me ‘daemon AU’ as a prompt for my birthday prompts last month (which, THANK YOU SO MUCH I adore daemon AUs even if I suck at deciding the actual forms) and I didn’t get around it it then 1) because I was very tired on the day, and because 2) I legit couldn’t pick a form and I still haven’t been able to! I just went ‘nope, nope, nope’ reading the analyses and then realized that I am thinking about X personality trait wrong so I would need to go through that stuff again and look at it AGAIN but I’m lazy so I’m not gonna do that. Yet.

For those confused, daemons are a representation of a person’s character and voice of conscience (sort of) that takes an animal form (that can talk) in Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy and the new Book of Dust. Children’s daemons can take whichever form they like and change at will, even mythical creatures such as a dragon, but when they reach a certain level of maturity, the daemon settles in one form and will not change again, and this form is symbolic of what kind of a person the human is, if you can read interpret it. Daemons generally can’t move far away from their people (unless you go to certain places where you can stretch the bond almost infinitely without dying or severing the bond) and moving away is painful. Touching other people’s daemons is generally not done, a taboo, and allowing someone to touch them is a huge huge HUGE show of trust, the MOST intimate thing!

One of the suitable-ish forms that I found was Icelandic horses (or Mongolian horses) which amused me no end so here’s me scribbling that and saving further ideas for proper drawings. :D Big man smol horse daemon! Still bloody huge as far as daemons go. Good luck climbing anywhere, Jay, good luck getting into small spaces. xD A horse daemon sounds awfully invonvenient lmao! I think horses might be a little high strung for Jay? Don’t know if Icelandic horses are on the calmer side of things but still. xD

In all seriousness though, in a daemon AU Jay’s daemon would be female, as is common, and her name would be something very very Finnish, I think, to remind him of his family roots, and a happy name - something like Rauha or Ilona or something, or Mielikki like the queen of the forests.
