For whatever reason, there has become a trend of gentrification. I remember as a teen being harassed and even arrested by a district 2 cop named Bachelor. He arrested me and two of my friends for standing on the sidewalk. He said we were blocking the pedestrian walkway. Even when there was drug sales and violence we never feared for our lives. It was OUR community. A predominately middle class African American neighbor was never appealing to white young professionals. Add a couple Mexican restaurants, a movie theater close by and a boutique hotel and now Madisonville is all the rave. That’s bullshit! Madisonville has always been a great neighborhood, I walked the streets til the lights came on. With this 911 calling frenzy I don’t favor gentrifying neighborhoods. Make all neighborhoods appealing, comfortable and safe for All people! Don’t just better shit when y’all want to become our neighbors, cause we been here!!! At 25 my first home purchase was in Madisonville, the neighborhood I grew up in.
