I just watched 'The Chicago Way', and it feels like the writers are trying to replace whatever relationship Mick and Ray had, be it friendship or romance or the like, with Nate&Ray and Mick&Amaya. don't get me wrong, the brotp for both of them is great, even though the latter feels like it's delving into romance territory a bit too much for my tastes, but with Mick calling Amaya "the one friend I have", and Ray and Mick barely interacting throughout the entire episode 1/3
(and in the crossover one, but that’s more understandable, considering the fact that there were so many characters to consider, but still), it just feels really… wrong to me. they went from Mick giving Ray the cold gun and wanting to be partners to being the Nate&Ray/Mick&Amaya show. and, correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t remember there even being a scene where it shows Ray giving back the cold gun. or a scene where it showed Ray starting on a new suit?? that’s probably my faulty memory.2/3
but back to point, am I the only one who feels like that?? what are your thoughts? 3/3
Ah. Well, I agree with a lot. It certainly feels like they are trying to push Amaya and Mick together and here I am, hoping that’s not going to happen :D
Because I can understand their relationship in one way, but it feels really forceful and unnatural in other. It’s just my subjective view. I mean, Amaya feels really fake to me, from what we’ve seen. Just thinking that a person she was supposed to love died and she had practically 0 grieving period, it feels weird to me, and it’s like she doesn’t have any character development, which is really sad, because there would be so much of it, if she got the chance from writers. And it feels like they are pushing Ray/Mick relationship away, but again from writer’s point of view it’s because Nate and Amaya are new. They need to make them have some kind of bond with the viewer, so they go for the well liked characters to make them included.
But of course, I have a shipper goggles on,which means that the Chicago Way episode I see like Mick being totally horrible at expressing himself. Because he’s jealous. As you wrote, something suddenly changed in his relationship with Ray, and he never felt like this before. He doesn’t know what he’s supposed to think, doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do, he just sees a guy who hangs out with Ray a lot, whom Ray really likes and gets along. Ray and Nate share a lot, they have similar hobbies and Ray is bubbly around him and feels needed - which is something Mick couldn’t ever give Ray because of his own antisocial personality and overprotectivness. So it kind of hurts seeing those two always together.
He doesn’t know what to do with these feelings, doesn’t know how to deal( which is totally why he ignored Ray and Nate, to make it some kind of punishment. Like the childish ‘you didn’t see ME for who knows how long because you’re talking to your new BFF so I’m not going to see you’ payback) . Amaya is there. She is uncomplicated and Mick knows she is grieving - he even respects her, because she would kill for her lost love. Mick can understand that himself, in a way. If anyone touched Haircut he would kill them too. After making sure they suffered horribly. Amaya is rough around the edges the same way Mick is, and she sees some things Mick’s not willing to share. She doesn’t tell him that Nate is a good kid, doesn’t tell him that he shouldn’t feel whatever is making his blood heat up. She doesn’t force him to talk about it, like Sara would. She just offers her presence and alcohol and while Mick could do without the first, he’s not going to say no to the second.
And when Mick tells her she’s his only friend, maybe he’s not even lying. Because she is what he needs a friend to be. And because to him, Haircut’s so much more.
Also when it comes to coldgun, it wasn’t said what’s with it. I’m kind of headcanoning it not being put back together, just to see Len’s face and what would happen when he finds out :D And yesh, we only saw Ray’s suit all done in the crossover episode which is so unfair, because can you just imagine all the opportunities at fluff, Mick dragging Ray to bed, since the guy doesn’t care about the time when he’s working, pushing food his way (that Mick doesn’t admit to cooking but everyone knows he did anyway) his way and just glaring at him until he finishes it.
Then the kiss they could share after Ray is finally done, when his eyes shine with excitement and happiness, and Mick’s heart feels like it’s going to burst because of reasons he has no idea about, and he burns with the desire to do something, so he just grabs Ray’s head and pulls him in, biting at his lips.
SO MANY MISSED OPPORTUNITIES.
