I think why Jadus and Eight's relationship compels me so much is this is the only iteration of anything mutual between two people who always tip the scales when it comes to power around others. They both looked at one another and went "I can manipulate this", "I can use him", and eventually, "he can stand by my side. more than a puppet ever will", when they've gone their entire lives sweeping the board with the amount of sway they have. Eight is too clever to be controlled by him. Jadus is too powerful to truly be used by anyone. They each have something the other wants that eventually turns into a powerful co-dependence that eliminates almost all cons for both parties. With anyone else, they would almost assuredly dominate the other.
They're also both system outliers that constantly break their bounds because they know the game so well that their only goal is to defy it and win- whether that means never truly being loyal to a side or committing straight treason.
Only they can see the future in each other's eyes, and it speaks of cataclysm.
The thing that breaks my heart most, is the gradual decline in intensity of one's feelings.
I remember once laughing so hard under the sun with classmates, about some peculiar joke, some odd ridicule. I remember being able to point at a group of my most favourite people, and say, with the brilliance of all my heart, "I know them!"
I remember the innocent joy and heartfelt devastation of watching this certain animation, or reading that other book, enjoying that pretty manga, listening to this peppy pop song borne three, four years before.
Now, I can only remember that I felt those things, and not what they were felt for. I can look at a piece of art and go, 'oh, I used to liked this' and go about with my day, only after realising - have I lost something?
I ache for the day I may come to feel nothing at all of this loss. I ache for the day quietly, in the cranny of my heart, I can only softly say, "I knew them."
But by then, I suppose, my heart will have already either solidified in stone or shattered in shards.
wave after wave, wave after wave; i’m slowly drifting...drifting away
I was sort of hoping SoR would enlighten me to something new about Eight, but I think I already know the ending to it. His Nine self belonged there more than he ever will, because he chose to attach himself to Theron and Lana in the here and now, and build a future together with them. Not Eight.
Eight is...transient. He's like someone who accidentally stepped into the fairy circle and married an otherworldly force that stole half of him away, and now barely exists in the world of man. His physical ties are gone. They are alive, (thank the force), but as far away as one can get. Call his name and he might answer, but he won't stay for long, and not for you. He'll play the game, move the galactic pieces, be in the right places at the right times, but he won't stay. There's no home to return to, and he lost the time and connection he needed to have one twice.
He's thoroughly amused by his new partners, and flits about flipping their switches and chance he gets, but it was the call of conspiracy and the potential shatterpoint of events that drew him to their side. He's not sure their worlds intersect as much as Lana thinks, as the color of the espionage he engages in takes on a far different hue than the kind either of them have known. And once again.... he's most likely on Rishi just to look for the Minister.
An impermanent presence in an impermanent world. I think he'll definitely change their lives in an undeniable way, but like a drifter you can only look upon and not touch. He'll keep pulling the rug out from under them-- it's his job to when others experience the benign misfortune of knowing him. Whether they can call him a friend after all this is purely up to them. He'll sweep on through like the winds of change, upturning their very foundations, and then he'll be gone.

I think there comes a time in every person’s life where everything just starts to make sense. Certain things come into focus, opening up new doors and closing old ones. These revelations lead us into the next stage of our lives. Sometimes, it’s for the better. But other times, dare I say most of the time, these realizations are exactly that. A startling jolt into reality. You see, when I was a kid I was as naive as they come. I was an optimist. I genuinely cared for other people more than I did myself. And I believed everyone felt the same. Now, being an optimist, or even naive, isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I think, as a kid, it is important to be somewhat innocent. To live at least part of your life where everything isn’t out to get you, and every stranger you meet can be considered a friend. Where everyone has your best intentions at heart. But with age comes a responsibility to recognize the reality of the world we live in. And by this I in no way mean that you have to take be negative about everything. Or even that you should be a pessimist. No, no. Believe in things, people, and even society as a whole. The greater good and human nature. Love, compassion, kindness, and everything in between. Believe in these things. Because they are important. But also, take these things with a grain of salt. For as soon as you’re comfortable and happy, as soon as you take a deep breath and become complacent. That is when the universe decides to humble you. And man, do we need to be humbled.
Sometimes you just gotta yell fuck and keep on going.
