DISNEY’S SLEEPING BEAUTY PAPER DOLLS (1959)

With the release of “Sleeping Beauty” in 1959, Disney went all out with merchandising. They published at least three different paper doll sets, plus a Colorform figure of Aurora, and an punch out set with figures and the cast of characters.

The Little Golden Book featured papers dolls of front and back paper dolls of Aurora and Phillip.

The large Whitman book added paper dolls of the Three Fairies, and the Queen with lots and lots of clothes. It would be republished in 1968 without the Queen doll and about half as many clothes.

Whitman also produced a boxed set of Magic Stay-On paper dolls - but of only Aurora and Phillip but with new (beautiful) art. The set included both color costumes to cut out and an a set of clothes to color with the provided crayons.

Today and tomorrow I’ll be featuring the paper dolls from the Magic Stay-On set (Phillip first, Aurora next). You won’t see any tabs. Since the clothes were suppose to stay on like Magic, none were provided.
