Working in progress, but I am cooking, and The Three Garridebs have got me inspired to draw. Sorry, but it is going to be angsty as hell.

Portable Sherlock Holmes Mystery - "The Adventure of the Three Garridebs" is complete for @skedazzle! I'm quite pleased with this one. The top is the sitting room of 221b, the middle is Nathan Garrideb's flat, and the bottom is the counterfeiting press that was in the cellar beneath Garrideb's. There is a trap door under the rug, although it doesn't actually open because I'm an artist, not an engineer. 😁 Over the last three or four boxes I have learned a lot of new things and I feel like I'm getting more confident with what I'm doing. This was a very, very fun story to do!
No cuz i was relistening to 3 garridebs
WTF JOEL THAT IS NOT OK
Yes, absolutely true.
After breaking Mr. Winter's head, Holmes sits in his chair, smokes a cigarette, and waits for Mr. Winter to die.
still haven't broken 500 words on the three garridebs fic bc i can't get the opening to vibe the way i want it to, so here's a later paragraph for your entertainment:
Holmes squeezes John’s knee in apology with one hand and keeps the other set firmly atop John’s own, putting solid pressure on the rend along the outside of his thigh. Superficial or not, the wound is still bleeding steadily, and its proximity to the mass of decades-old scar tissue makes Holmes nervous.
They finally did the Three Garridebs moment with Abe when he shot John and Sherlock lost it because of that. 😭 Sherlock was so protective of John!
Unbelievable. This is so soft! (In its own way).
Hi Steph!
Quick question: what is “canon Garridebs” and what’s its significance to the Sherlock fandom? I’ve seen it mentioned a few times, and I don’t know what anyone is talking about ajsjsjshs
Hope your October is going spookily! Many hugs and much love!
Hey Lovely!
No worries!
"Canon Garridebs" refers to the ACD canon story called "Adventure of the Three Garridebs", which is very famous amongst Johnlockers and fandom simply for the fact that Watson appears to get injured, and Holmes loses his shit about it:
In an instant he had whisked out a revolver from his breast and had fired two shots. I felt a sudden hot sear as if a red-hot iron had been pressed to my thigh. There was a crash as Holmes’s pistol came down on the man’s head. I had a vision of him sprawling upon the floor with blood running down his face while Holmes rummaged him for weapons. Then my friend’s wiry arms were round me, and he was leading me to a chair.
“You’re not hurt, Watson? For God’s sake, say you are not hurt!”
It was worth a wound–it was worth many wounds–to know the depth of loyalty and love which lay behind that cold mask. The clear, hard eyes were dimmed for a moment, and the firm lips were shaking. For the one and only time I caught a glimpse of a great heart as well as of a great brain. All my years of humble but single-minded service culminated in that moment of revelation.
“It’s nothing, Holmes. It’s a mere scratch.”
He had ripped up my trousers with his pocket-knife. “You are right,” he cried with an immense sigh of relief. “It is quite superficial.” His face set like flint as he glared at our prisoner, who was sitting up with a dazed face. “By the Lord, it is as well for you. If you had killed Watson, you would not have got out of this room alive. Now, sir, what have you to say for yourself?”

The bold emphasis is mine, as it is the line in the story that most people refer to when they say “Canon Garridebs”. It’s Watson SEEING how much Holmes cares for him and how important that is to Watson.
Essentially, it is a very non-subtextual admission in original canon of Holmes and Watson loving each other in some capacity. It’s a story that hasn’t really ever been adapted and it’s one that the BBC Sherlock fandom want to see, but it is also one of the last stories to enter public domain (in the US, I mean, in 2023) so I’m sure that we’ll FINALLY see a few adaptations of it on-screen :)
So when people refer to a “garridebs moment” – which is a popular term used among Johnlockers and TJLCers alike – it means John Whump and Sherlock losing his absolute shit with the person who hurt John.
Hope that helps!! <3
Granada Holmes literally adapted the Three Garridebs, and Jeremy Brett, a bisexual man, completely understood the inherent queerness of Sherlock Holmes, and YET they waited too long and by the time they adapted it they had to swap Mycroft's character in for Sherlock's and we didn't get our Three Garrideb's moment. The universe plays its jokes in large and small ways.
