My next request is quite challenging - a miniature version of the famous Crystal Palace, and loosely based on "The Yellow Face," in which Holmes and Watson go for a stroll around the Palace grounds. The base is a dresser-top men's jewelry box, and there will be extra fun things in the drawer below. Ignore the way the flooring is curling up atm, that will be fixed eventually. The structure on the left will contain some exhibits - probably some science themed stuff, since that's what I think Holmes would have wanted to see. On the right is the half-built fountain, which was also made of glass (fml). Nearby will be a tree and some wrought iron something or other. The glass edifice will fit over the top of it all like a cloche or a bell jar - I hope! That's the part I'm the most worried about.

Molly Hooper's laboratory is complete by request for Heather, as my humble way to thank her for all the work that went into putting on 221b-con. This was a fun challenge! On the body is Sherlock's riding crop, and below is a brain in a pan.

I give these away for free (although I'm probably going to have to start accepting money for shipping thanks to the shit hole country/economy in which I live and the stupid ass war crimes it's committing) so if anyone reading would like one, just let me know and I'll put you on my list!

In progress: Molly Hooper's laboratory. I'm making this for one of the people who organized 221b-con, to thank them for such a good time. It's very fun to make a mini morgue! For the drawers I used embossing tin, which is basically thick tin foil, but the autopsy table was painted with Rub & Buff. The other table will be a workstation. There will be a body under a sheet and a riding crop on the autopsy table.

Another "Sherlock" miniature scene is complete for Snorlax! I've been trying to take some better pictures, I hope they look okay. This scene has my first music stand - with heart-shaped rosin and Telemann's violin fantasias, bc that's what I'm currently playing. I recently got a UV resin kit so it's been fun to discover all the cool new things I can make - the rosin, for example, and the table-top magnifying glass on Sherlock's desk.

@this-one-is-sleepy Greetings and salutations - it's me again with some more miniature advice: BEADS!

Beads are super useful for all kinds of things, especially what are called "spacer" beads. I use them for vases, chair/table legs, random knick-knacks, etc. I'm currently making the headboard of a bed and used beads to simulate fancy woodwork on the posts. I'm quite sure there's at least one bead in every scene I've made!

For the woodwork on the headboard I've used a trimmed piece of epoxy resin detail which I made in a silicone cake decorating mold. This is another handy way to make things look fancy, especially if you're going to do a Victorian scene - they loved their heavy woodworking. That's all I've got for today, hope it was helpful 😊

The "Sherlock" Sussex retirement cottage is complete for ohlooktheresabee!

Here's a close-up of their little patio. Sherlock's pipe is in his chair by his beehive, and John's got a notebook and pencil beside his vegetable garden, because he likes to sit there and write while Sherlock tends his bees. There are two green carnations on the table - a little Victorian flower language 🥰.

Below is a better pic of John's desk. He's been trying to keep Sherlock's papers at bay, but they're slowly starting to accumulate anyway. Of course he has a cute couple pic (from the Hound episode) as his screensaver, and the bear statue with Sherlock's scarf, because he's a silly-billy.

Who am I and what do I do?

I've gotten some new followers lately, so I thought maybe I should quickly introduce and explain myself. My name is Tiger (they/them, AuDHD, Gen X) and I'm a miniature artist who is fixated on all things Sherlock Holmes. I will make you a scene for free if you don't mind waiting a bit, although I may have to start charging for shipping. While I don't accept money for my artwork (no shade to those who do! Good for anyone who makes a living being creative!), I do accept gifts and artwork in return, but I do not expect them. I do this strictly for therapeutic fun. My brain loves miniatures and it loves Sherlock Holmes, and whenever my brain is happy, the people who live with and care about me are happy, and I'm stable and happy, and I just prefer to share the happiness around. Plus, let's be honest - these things pile up! So if you would like your own scene, just let me know your favorite story/adaptation etc and I'll put you on the list!

In progress - BBC Sussex retirement cottage! I got Sherlock's microscope made and most of John's desk. He has a cute couple pic for his screensaver, of course, and the bear statue was from a random screenshot of his desk someone found - I added Sherlock's scarf around its neck. He has a Rubik's cube and a coffee cup, and will have some of Sherlock's paper litter eventually. Better pic below:

What do you guys think about the progress pics? Is it too much? Do you just like seeing the finished product? I'm a process-oriented artist, so I really enjoy seeing how other artists work and have the urge to share my process. And feel free to chime in with suggestions - especially for these "Sherlock" scenes, bc I haven't watched the whole show yet. No shade, I just have a hard time paying attention to tv. I like to add little fun Easter eggs for people.

In progress - Sussex retirement cottage scene! This one is based on the BBC adaptation. They kept their old chairs, and Sherlock kept Vitruvian John, which is hung inside the cabinet which will be over his chemistry table. There is a big jar of honey on the table for John's toast and tea. Up front are their rocking chairs and one of Sherlock's bee hives, and John's garden will fill the rest of the yard, because we all know he totally had a retirement garden. He's the British Everyman!

Portable Sherlock Holmes Mystery - Final Problem/Empty House combination. I still have to do some cosmetic things to the box itself and reattach the hardware, but all the fun stuff is done. On the left is Reichenbach falls, up top on the right is Watson's office, and below is the sitting room of 221b.

Here's a better picture of the furniture for Watson's office. The pile of clothes and hair in the chair is Holmes's disguise, and I made the books he brought and left space for them on the bookcase. It was fun to make that exam table! There's a stethoscope on top, but you can't really see it.

And a better pic of the sitting room furniture. The Persian slipper and jacknife and gasogene are on the mantle, and I made Holmes's chemistry table and desk. His pipe is in the basket chair, that's his violin case at the bottom, and on the little side table is a newspaper boy hat and a gavel. Those details are specific to this recipient - it's for the BSI's new Wiggins, if you know what that means, so those items represent him.

Portable Sherlock Holmes Mystery - BBC Sherlock Christmas edition is complete for mysteriousxspaghetti! This scene lights up (there are fairy lights intertwined with the garland around the fireplace, and I'm gradually getting better at that tricky modern microscope! I really enjoy these "Sherlock" scenes, it's quite fun to deviate from the 19th century every once in a while!

I finally was able to unpack my incredible Three Garridebs miniature from @tiger-daniels and couldn't be happier to receive such an amazing gift of artistry!

Thank you for this wonderful work of art, Tiger! It makes me so happy to look at it. Each room is crafted so well and with so much attention to detail. Two microscopes!! Butterflies! Skulls!! Bones!!! Pipes, Persian slipper, coal scuttle, knifed correspondence, printing press, neat stickers and a lovely keychain etc. -- truly an embarrassment of riches.

It now sits pride of place on my Holmes shelf (I must admit my second shelf, as I have outgrown the first 😆)

@this-one-is-sleepy Here's a very simple example of how I make my furniture. This is a fireplace that I'm making from a Cheez-it box (extra toasty!) First I measure and draw, then cut along the outline. The vertical lines remaining will form the edges of the fireplace, and these lines I score (cut halfway through) with a craft knife. Not only does it help the cardboard fold easier, it makes a much better edge for your furniture. I'll be putting on a mantle and a floor for the fire grate, so this isn't a finished product, but I thought it might be helpful to show you a simple version of the process. Let me know if you have any questions or want to know something else 😊

@this-one-is-sleepy You asked for some miniature making tips, so I've been trying to think of some helpful things I learned early on so that you can avoid some of the headaches I had while teaching myself. The first thing which came to mind was how to make miniature books. If you're going to make a Holmes scene, you're almost certainly going to have to make some books, and here is the easiest way I've found thus far:

1. Paint thick, sturdy paper (I use cardstock) with stripes of colors according to the color spines you want the books to have. The more stripes you paint, the more variegated your books will look.

2. Cut the paper into strips which will fit nicely on your little shelf - the length doesn't really matter as much as the height of the strips.

3. Fold the strips in half, then fan/accordion fold them, starting from the folded edge. When squeezed together, they look like a neat little bundle of book spines. Squeeze three or four of these little bundles together and you'll have a whole shelf! Once they are glued in place, I go in with gold/silver/black paint markers and mark up some of the spines to simulate lettering. This is *by far* the easiest way to make books that I have found yet, and I owe it all to @readingwithgwen ! I will keep thinking for other things that might be helpful for you 😊

Making progress on the Christmas-themed "Sherlock" living room! I broke down and ordered fake miniature garland - I'm able to make my own, but it's a pain in the ass and this is the third Christmas box I've done, so I gave in.
