[Upon him the contempt of three planets descended.]
I am talking about this, but it’s mostly to sort things out in my head, not so much to bore you guys with it, so... you know the drill (ignore :)
Today, I’ll do it by process of ellimination.
The two short stories -- my main motivation to write them is because if I finish them, I hope I could maybe possibly sell them. Send them somewhere and maybe someone would be stupid enough to publish them. Well, that’s not a great motivation, it’s frustrating and that’s why I think I should let them go. Maybe when I actually have a novel finished and sent out there, then I can try with short stories, because I really, really don’t feel short form. So, that’s two out of... eight.
Six to go. Well, five, sixth will stay. Travelers still need to be put to rest, so that one is a no as well. Doubts about Black and Light won’t be solved with my current mindset. Good.
That leaves: ChiFire fic, Killjoys fic, Prophecy and Imbalance.
Killjoys fic would be a waste of time, plain and simple. Maybe when we know that the show is renewed, but probably not even then. It’s not shippy fic, so... yeah, I’d better shut up about this.
I don’t want to write Prophecy, because I don’t think I will ever actually finish it, so it wouldn’t “pay off”, but that’s the story that actually makes me happy, so maybe the payoff is not the most important thing?
ChiFire is just an obligation at this point. Nah, I’ll get bactk to it when the show is back on air. *nods*
Imbalance. The notes for this story are a complete mess. The characters are kind of beginning to make sense. Plot is in bits and pieces but it’s there. Maybe I should make it my goal to clear things up with this story? Revise the worl and its history, look at the characters again and mabe decide which is the main character, because the one I chose can’t hold the story.
I think I will give Imbalance another try. This week. And I’ll see how it goes. If it doesn’t, I’ll tackle Prophecy next.
Because I should be able to declare what shit I want to finish. On Monday.
And you know what my problem is? That I just can’t choose! That’s the problem. I can’t get any writing done lately, because when I’m doing one thing, I’m thinking about another and when I get to that another, one more comes to mind. It’s exhausting and it’s annoying, so such challenge at the moment -- is heaven-sent.
Okay, here we go.
Part of me wants to finish the damn Chicago Fire fanfic. But. It’s the responsible part, th eone that says -- but there are people who want to read how it ends. The problem is, I just don’t feel like writing it right now, it would be a chore, not fun. I think that once the show is back on air, I may want to get to it. I’m pretty sure that I will.
Another part wants to write a Killjoys fic. That part is pretty damn nagging, but I know myself. I know that in a few weeks I’ll just lose interest in this show and in those characters and in the fic storyline. If we at least knew that the show is getting a second season... As it is, I see no payoff in writing this story. And I will fail and I will not finish it, so what’s the point starting. If at least I had shomeone to talk about it, someone who thinks like me, who shares my ideas and who thinks that what I want to get from this story is fun... But I’m weird and what is fun to me is not fun for almost everybody else, so that’s not happening. And without some watering this idea will, surely, wither long before the story is completed. And I can’t post it incomplete, because of how I see it formatted. It has to be written, edited and completed in its entriety before I start posting. Period. Not gonna write it.
Those were fanfics, now original stuff. Geez, that’s worse.
Black and Light -- why I do? Because it’s the only story that actually has an ending. The first draft of it is completed. Why I don’t? Because I’m not sure I took this subject for the right reasons and even more -- I’m have serious doubts if the way I approached the subject is right.
Travelers -- I’ve just finished first draft -- except not quite. Final five-or-so chapters aren’t detailed enough to say the first draft of this novel is completed. Maybe I should finish it, but I’ve been pushing too hard with this one and right now it feels somewhat... rumpled...
Imbalance -- that’s the story I wanted to write lately, but it just won’t gel. It’s still the one I think I should tackle, but... I don’t know... it just doesn’t want to get written yet. The characters refuse to talk to me. I may have approached them from the wrong angle, I don’t know... Hello! Who are you guys?
Prophecy -- I get flashes of this story every now and again. I love those characters and, like 75% of the plot is really cool. But I don’t know where I’m going with this. This story has no ending, no purpose and no resolution. It’s an old one, the oldest of those I’m still thinking about. Maybe I should just add a few chapters to it? I sure would love to revisit those boys and girls.
Otherside -- it’s a short story and I just don’t have a heart for short stories. But it might actually pay off. Also, I think I might try writing it as a Killjoys fanfic and then only change the names? Of course the setting wouldn’t be anything like in the show, just the characters... I don’t know.
Ananke -- also a short story. Maybe I could try this one as Killjoys fanfic. Would that even make sense? It’s a one-character story, not three characters... I have no idea, seriously.
I remembered! "Three Planets" (tentatively renamed "Imbalance", or "Asymmetry"), was supposed to be a romantic story, not hero's journey. Now, it makes a lot more sense...
I have a question to all my writing friends. What do you do to engage the reader from the get go? Why do you think some stories pull the reader in from the first sentence and others they read and feel nothing? Is it the character, their feelings? Or interesting worldbuilding? Or, in case of fanfic – a summary that promises the pairing of your choosing? Do you even think about it? Or do you just write and people love it and you didn’t ever wonder why? ;)
When you read -- how long do you give a story, before you say – nope, it isn't for me – a paragraph, a page, a chapter?
I'm about to start writing a more-or-less detailed plot for that idea that has been brewing in my head for somewhat over a year and I have to chose the scene that would start it all. Should it be action filled, or something more expository. I know who the PoV character should be, but how much can I reveal about him in the first chapter? Because he is a complicated fellow, with complicated motivations.
*le sigh*
I wish I could finish Travelers. I really, really wish. I’m at 62 161 words now and I wanted first draft to be about 80k, but I think that 70-75 would be enough. See how close I am? I have basic plot for the final six chapters, detailed plot for the five before that, and more-or-less drafted forty one chapters, so I’m basically eleven chapters short.
But the ending just doesn’t want to be written yet. Well, it’s possible that there’s something about it that will only reveal itself to me later. Maybe I have to wait and let it come to me in that next approach in a couple of months. I’m a little sad, because I wanted to let it maturate in a more finished form than it is now, but... *shrug* Sometimes brain knows better.
Meanwhile, other things need some attention as well. Three Planets finally need a plot (and a better title); Black and Light need a rewrite; there are those two short stories that might get written (or not...) and All Men... could be finished (although my attention for this story has vanished... sorry. :( I would like to take another look at the Prophecy. I don’t know. I just want to do stuff and Travelers are stubborn. And tired. So, I’ll let them rest.

Three super-Earths orbiting nearby star discovered
Washington: Three planets, each with a mass 7 to 8 times that of Earth, have been discovered orbiting a nearby star that is only 54 light-years away, scientists say.
All three planets orbit their star at a distance closer than Mercury orbits the Sun, completing their orbits in just five, 15, and 24 days, researchers said.
The team discovered the new planets by detecting the wobble of the star HD…
