bloodraven isn't the three-eyed crow, right?

¹ when asked about it, bloodraven completely ignores the three eyes part and only references his being a member of the night's watch re: being a crow. he can't be so senile that he forgot that he visited bran as a three-eyed crow, right?

² he mainly references watching bran, and never states that he actually interacted with bran in his dreams

³ this is the only part that doesn't specify watching as a passive mode of partaking, but being "part of your first dream" is so vague that it could mean anything

i am confusion. gurm, eggsplain.

has this been discussed elsewhere and i missed it? who else could the three-eyed crow be? please don't tell me it's gonna be euron, we gotta keep that man away from the children

Hello :) I was thinking wouldn’t Planetos have been doomed if the ironborn, or more specifically Theon Greyjoy, hadn’t attacked the North? I mean, I suppose Rodrik Cassel would eventually have needed to ride out to deal with Ramsay Snow (leaving less men in Winterfell), but there would certainly still be enough for Maester Luwin to send out a search party, once it was discovered a Stark Prince was gone - and even if Bran and co. did make it to Bloodraven’s cave, wouldn’t Howland Reed be called to Winterfell to answer for his children’s abduction of Robb’s heir?

The North was always going to be attacked, that was Balon's plan as soon as Robb took most of the Northern forces South. There was a fleet gathered at Pyke before Theon ever arrived. He would have attacked even if Theon had been a hostage, I imagine.

The biggest difference is Theon's decision to attack Winterfell directly. Bran and the Reeds were relatively safe there before that.

If I recall correctly, Jojen wanted Bran to leave Winterfell specifically to protect him from the ironborn. It was not his objective to take him north to Bloodraven specifically. I think. His purpose was to help Bran develop his gift. At the instigation of the three-eyed crow and the express approval of his father Howland Reed. This is finally achieved during the destruction of Winterfell in the crypts.

It's only after Winterfell is sacked and burned that Jojen makes the decision to travel north beyond the Wall.

“Will we go to your lord father?” Bran asked as they crossed the drawbridge between the walls. “To Greywater Watch?”

Meera looked to her brother for the answer. “Our road is north,” Jojen announced. (ACOK, Bran VII)

Presumably, the crow would have found some other way to draw Bran north, if necessary, but he may have tried to train him the same way he did Jojen for a while longer, through dreams and perhaps the tree at Winterfell.

Either way, I don't think Planetos was necessarily doomed without the ironborn invasion, but it helped speed up the process of isolating Bran and allowing him a greater independence and mobility on the map of the North.
